In recent years, it has become fashionable to equip its territory with improvised materials, pallets are especially good for this. Wooden structures are very versatile and, with a bit of imagination, can replace any household item. Therefore, if pallets remain after a recent repair, before disposing of them, it is worthwhile to familiarize yourself with the information, for example, how to make beds from pallets.

Making vertical beds

Pallets can also be installed vertically to the ground. Thus, you can build an impromptu fence from pallets. High fences can be used to divide areas between the vegetable garden and the garden. Moreover, additional flower beds and even beds can be made from the pallets themselves.

It will be possible to make a full-fledged rack from wooden boxes. To do this, however, you will have to disassemble the pallets and supplement them with bars for greater reliability.

Vertical pallet beds are very popular. Of additional materials, you will also need a stapler and a spunbond or agrotechnical fabric. And you can also cope with a regular hammer with nails.

The pallet will first need to be sheathed with cloth, then filled with fertile soil and lightly tamped. Otherwise, the soil will simply begin to spill out when the position of the structure changes.

Now you can do whatever you want with the garden bed, plant your favorite seeds. It is most convenient to grow strawberries, flowers, greens and similar vegetation in this way. As soon as the plants take root and gain a foothold, the garden bed can already be moved to an upright position.

Vertical beds will fit perfectly into corners of the territory that are unsuitable or inconvenient for growing, they look good and save space. Such cultivated pallets can be placed even on small balconies of urban high-rise buildings.

From such boxes, you can construct high beds, as well as full-fledged greenhouses.

To do this, you will have to make a frame for the container. On one side of the center beam, the pallet is split and nailed to the frame. We will use the rest of the pallets to fill in the gaps.

Further, the inner part of the formwork will need to be covered with a film or something waterproof. Since the beds are very deep, the bottom of the container can be covered with bricks, gravel or medium-sized stones. Next, peat, compost or fertilized soil is poured. The garden is ready. Now you can plant the plants you want.

For planting vegetables, you can additionally equip the garden bed with a frame made of pipes and put a film on it - you get a real greenhouse.

So, the advantage of vertical pallet beds lies in their functionality and creativity. Simple structures are very mobile and rather compact.

Such models are suitable for full-fledged cultivation of strawberries, radishes, flowers and salad herbs. The larger the structure, the more opportunities for gardening.

Hedges and beds can also be constructed from Euro pallets. The external result will be the same, but in terms of wear resistance they surpass ordinary boxes.

Advantages of a Euro pallet:

  • made of high quality wood;

  • additional processing is performed with a composition that slows down the aging of the timber and increases the wear resistance almost twice as compared to a conventional pallet;

  • withstands high loads.

Disadvantages:

  • higher cost compared to conventional pallets.

Horizontal buildings

The most primitive and unpretentious way to use pallets for summer cottages is to install beds without changing their design. That is, we simply choose a free space on the territory and set up such miracle beds.

Here are the general principles for installing do-it-yourself pallet beds.

Tools and materials

To make a horizontal bed you will need:

  • pallet or euro pallet;

  • furniture stapler or hammer and nails;

  • spunbond or other moisture resistant fabric;

  • peat, soil.

Installation technology

There are two ways to create a pallet bed.

First way:

  • the territory on the plot for the garden is selected and marked in accordance with the parameters of the pallet;

  • digging up the soil;

  • the necessary fertilizers are applied;

  • the pallet is stacked;

  • the free space between the pallet boards is completely filled with soil, along the way the soil needs to be compacted;

  • seedlings or seeds are planted in improvised rows of the garden bed.

Consider the advantages of the first method of installing a pallet:

  • organization of planting of vegetation;

  • the ability to plant several types of plants or varieties in one bed without confusion;

  • breeding of pure plants and berries, it is very convenient when growing strawberries and strawberries;

  • almost complete absence of weeds, since the pallet boards constitute an obstacle for them to grow;

  • originality of the design;

  • visual neatness of the garden.

Disadvantages of the first method:

  • large size of the garden;

  • there is little space for planting, in contrast to the classic earthen beds;

  • a high risk of moving the pallet processing agent into the soil, which will entail the saturation of harmful substances in the soil and crop;

  • such a bed is an excellent refuge for insects and slugs.

The second way to install a pallet bed is simpler.

Procedure:

  • weeds are cut or mowed in the required area;

  • on top of the cut grass, cardboard or something similar is laid at its discretion;

  • a pallet is installed on top of the cover;

  • all the free space of the pallet is filled with all kinds of organic waste at will (hay, cut grass, vegetable waste);

  • waste must be watered along the way by compaction;

  • soil up to 7 centimeters thick is poured into the rows of the beds (pallet slots).

The garden is ready.

Advantages of the second method of installing a pallet:

  • no need to dig up the soil;

  • a minimum of soil and a maximum of waste are used (practically waste-free production);

  • the beds are enough for a couple of years of operation.

Making a container

For safety reasons, before starting work, you should be careful not to stumble upon toxic material. Otherwise, you can get poisoned.

Before reworking the pallet, you need to pay attention to the marking. If the letters MB are present, then this indicates a chemical insecticidal treatment of the tree. The letters НТ are evidence of the heat treatment of the pallets. It is these constructions that should be used for giving.

How to do:

  • one pallet is cleared of debris;

  • we saw the pallet into three equal parts, while removing unnecessary boards;

  • we collect three parts, fastening them with screws;

  • the remaining parts can be used as legs for the box;

  • we fix them with screws.

For aesthetic purposes, the box can be varnished or non-toxic paint.

At the bottom, as well as for the beds, it is better to lay something moisture-repellent. Then add stones, clay and peat.

Pallet boards can be made deaf, that is, make a wooden box. But when you make a special container, you get more space for plants.

In general, the use of pallets will be an excellent choice for creating flower displays on the site and zoned cultivation of cultivated plants.
