Few people know that the beds can be laid out with bricks. In this case, a vegetable garden or garden acquires an aesthetic appearance. However, a beautiful design is not the most important thing, the erected structure will protect the plants from the formation of putrefactive microorganisms and protect the earth from the washing out of the useful layer (humus) by rainwater. Special nets can be laid at the base of the beds. This procedure will protect planted plants from moles and other pests.

Advantages and disadvantages

The beds can be beautifully decorated with decorative bricks in the country or in a country house. The design should be developed independently or invited by a specialist. It is necessary to take into account the specifics of brick structures. The point is that the masonry is stationary. It cannot be moved from one place to another. If, after a certain time, you want to change the design, then you will have to disassemble the entire brick structure.

The fence is a low stone wall. In some cases, the height of the building reaches 1 m. In order for the masonry to stand for a long time, all instructions and technologies must be followed. You will have to lay a solid foundation under the brick wall. For decorating the beds, a tape-type base is suitable.

With brick fences, you can create an endless variety of garden bed shapes. Someone will like square, round or rectangular geometric shapes, while someone will design a bed in the form of an oval, ellipse, parabola. Combined brickwork looks beautiful. It is done in some places lower, and in others a little higher. This know-how will decorate any land plot and create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort on it. This life hack is gaining more and more popularity among gardeners.

Brick fences have the following advantages:

  • the land plot takes on a beautiful appearance;
  • properly laid out brickwork will last for many years;
  • in the spring season, the earth warms up quickly, which has a beneficial effect on plants;
  • it is easier to care for the plantings;
  • it is easier to protect plants from weeds and various pests;
  • the term of fruiting increases.

However, brick flower beds have negative points:

  • the stone structure has a number of difficulties during installation and requires serious financial costs;
  • the structure is stationary, it cannot be moved from one place to another;
  • the earth in such buildings dries quickly;
  • cats often use such places as a toilet.

High brickwork is considered a capital structure. Therefore, before erection, it is necessary to carefully consider the choice of location and configuration of the structure.

Varieties

There is an endless variety of stone beds. They may differ in appearance and design specifics. Constructions can be conditionally divided into 4 groups.

  1. Fences with a height of about 1 m. In this case, it is necessary to fill the strip base. Stone elements are connected with mortar. You can use silicate, white or red bricks.
  2. Brick beds with a small elevation above ground level. This design is made in the form of a low edging. It consists of one or two rows of bricks.
  3. Curly decorative flower beds. They are made in the form of a high wall located on the foundation. The forms can be very different.They are often exhibited in separate groups creating one large panorama. Such structures look very beautiful, they are used for planting flowers.
  4. People most often make beds for greenhouses themselves. They are laid out with old bricks. A beautiful appearance is not needed here. The height of the structure is chosen differently - it all depends on the type and variety of the grown crop. No intricate configurations are made. The perimeter is laid out in a rectangular shape of the desired size.

The types of fences are designed for targeted use. If a large amount of organic fertilizers is introduced inside, then the walls are made high. Otherwise, 1 to 4 rows of bricks will be enough for growing.

Strawberry beds are specific. The base is filled with the necessary layers of humus. Covering material is placed on top. In it, cuts are made in advance, where strawberry bushes are then planted. This method will prevent the emergence of weeds and keep the existing moisture from evaporating, because this crop needs water very much. The root system of strawberries is at the surface of the earth. Therefore, the fertile soil layer can be laid with a small thickness. However, such a system has a significant disadvantage. During a freezing winter, the culture may not survive. The beds will need to be insulated. At high negative temperatures, it is better to cover them with a large layer of snow. In this case, the root system will survive.

The beds for cucumbers and tomatoes are arranged according to the same system as strawberries. However, you will have to pull a wire or thread along. You will need to tie up branches and whips to them.

How to make your own garden beds?

Finishing the borders will give any area an aesthetic appearance and convenience. Anyone can overlay the beds with bricks and fence them from weeds and other plants, thereby making the zoning of the plot.

High

To create tall beds, you need to lay a solid foundation. The structure should stand for many years, so the foundation should be erected with high strength and strength.

The first step is to determine the place where the structure for the beds will be located. Then you need to calculate how much light, heat and moisture the planted plants will need. It is not so difficult to build high fences for the beds. To do this, you must follow the step-by-step instructions.

  1. To lay a reliable foundation, it is necessary to mark the future structure and stretch the twine between the hammered pegs. A hole is dug along the thread for the future foundation. A depth of 30 cm will be enough. Next, sand about 10 cm thick is poured into the hole. The entire sand cushion must be carefully tamped along its entire length.
  2. The next step is the formwork. It can be made from old planks. For a solid foundation, a width of 20 cm is sufficient. The edges must be trimmed. The formwork should be 10 cm higher than the surrounding landscape.
  3. Next, the reinforcement is laid. In its capacity, a metal wire with a thickness of at least 2 mm is suitable. The reinforcement is laid in the formwork on crushed stone or broken brick along the entire perimeter, and the wire frame should not be interrupted. For strength, its ends should be connected with a knitting rod.
  4. Cement mortar is poured into the finished formwork. To save money, you can add fine gravel to the mixture. It is advisable to fill the entire foundation within 1 day. Cement with sand is diluted in a 1: 1 ratio.
  5. The formwork can be disassembled within 2 days. It is better to let the foundation stand for 2 weeks. During this period, it will acquire its best qualities and characteristics.
  6. After the base is completely dry, you can start laying the structure itself. It is better to start building a structure from the corners. It is forbidden to stack whole bricks exactly on top of each other. The second row should lie in such a way that the stones fit into a "bundle". The middle of the upper brick should be placed on the joint of the two lower stones.
  7. After the construction of the structure, it will be necessary to wipe the seams. A rubber spatula is suitable for this procedure. The void in the seams is filled with mortar, and the excess mixture is removed with a rubber device.

Further, the structure is left to dry completely for 2 weeks. The resulting structure will have the necessary beauty and reliability. It will last for many years.

Curly

These fences are characterized not only by their durability, but also by their beautiful design. It is better to place them in a conspicuous place. A plot in front of the house or in the yard is suitable. For construction, it is better to use facing brick, but you can also choose an ordinary stone. The building should be located in a visible place in order to delight the owners and guests with its beauty. It is not so easy to do this kind of work with your own hands. For the installation of curly fences, the following operations will be required:

  1. carry out complex markings;
  2. for the installation of curved forms, pieces of brick will be required;
  3. all masonry is erected with mortar;
  4. rows of bricks alternate lengthwise and end-to-end.

It is necessary to observe all modes of drying of the solution in the structure. Then the masonry will serve for a long period of time.

In the greenhouse

The rectangular perimeter has its own characteristics. Complex and intricate shapes are not required here. There must always be dampness inside the building. The fence can be made either on the foundation or without it. It all depends on the purpose of the beds and their functions.

A fence in a greenhouse can be made from any material at hand, however, brick sidewalls are considered the most durable, cement mortar masonry is very reliable. You can sit on it and use it for various needs. For the construction of fences, you can use paving stones, white and red bricks. The structure turns out to be especially beautiful if half of it is laid out with tiles or expanded clay.

Classic beds are placed along the walls of the greenhouse structure. Its width is made about 80 cm. So it is more convenient to handle the plantings. If the greenhouse is wide, then several extended beds are made. Stitches are inserted between them. If several varieties of different plants are cultivated in the greenhouse, the territory is divided into sectors. Fences are erected according to the same principle as on the street.

If the building has a great height, then during the construction it is necessary to provide a solid foundation. Small brick fences without a foundation are installed after the assembly of the greenhouse complex.

Stone buildings for greenhouses are erected in the same way as earthen fences. With a high wall height, a solid foundation must be laid.
