Pear of Sverdlovsk can become a faithful companion of many gardeners for many years. But for this it is necessary to carefully study its features and nuances of application. And it's worth starting with the official botanical description.
Breeding history
Breeders Kondratyev and Kotov are the creators of the Sverdlovchanka. The plant has been officially allowed to be used in private gardens since 2001. We got it by pollinating Lukashovka Fields with a combination of pollen collected from different southern pears.
Description of the variety
Sverdlovsk woman is a classic dessert pear. It is characterized by weak growth (the height of the trunks does not exceed 3-3.5 m). Other features:
wide crown in the form of a pyramid;
the uplifting character of the main branches, covered with greenish-gray bark;
cover of shoots with greenish-brown bark;
green elongated leaves with a characteristic shine;
moderately large white flowers, bowl-like in geometry.
Fruit characteristics
Their laying will occur on branched ringlets. However, the growth of the previous year is also capable of bearing fruit. The usual weight of pears is 120 g. Sometimes they can reach 180 g. These are large fruits with a green color during the ripeness period.
Everything changes when it reaches consumer ripeness. At such a moment, Sverdlovchanka turns yellow. On the sunny edge, it may have a faint blush. The stalks are very long. It is worth noting that it is possible to store the fruits for up to 90 days.
Taste qualities
The pulp of Sverdlovsk is juicy and tender. It is thin and has almost no signs of granulation. But the oiliness is quite typical for her. It is a white-yellowish mass with a sour-sweet taste. It should be noted that the sour note is well felt.
But it has no negative effect. On the contrary, they note its pleasantness. This variety has a typical honey-spicy aroma. It is mixed with a slightly pronounced shade of vanilla. The tasting examination gives these pears, containing up to 9.9% sugars and about 0.2% titratable acids, an overall rating of 4.5 points.
Ripening and fruiting
The pear of Sverdlovsk is considered to be one of the summer fruit trees. They begin to collect fruits no earlier than August 10. The collection usually ends by the second decade of September. Under favorable weather conditions, it can last until September 20. The tree will bear its first fruits 3 or 4 years after successful budding.
Yield
It is, indeed, a prolific pear. It can give 143.5 centners of fruit per 1 hectare of plantation. Of course, such a result is achieved only with competent agricultural technology and good weather. If the crop is harvested, then it will be easily transported over a long distance. The commercial qualities are also very high.
Growing regions
The variety is zoned in the Lower Volga region. Cultivation in the Urals is also possible. The official admission to cultivation in this harsh area allows you to expect that in a milder climate, productivity will be no worse than normal. But such attempts will be at your own peril and risk.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
The Sverdlovsk woman is self-infertile. For normal development, trees of Permyachka or Severyanka must be planted next to it.Pollination by other plants has not been confirmed.
Landing
It is very important to choose first-class seedlings. Healthy and robust plants root as well as possible. In the south and in the center of Russia, it is necessary to plant a crop at the junction of August and September. This allows the plants to take root thoroughly before the start of frost. To the north, you need to choose the spring period, when the soil has time to warm up thoroughly.
Saplings must be no more than 2 years old. Very important for Sverdlovchanka are spacious, bright areas with decent illumination, but protection from drafts. The depth of the soil water should be at least 2 m. Humus, sand, superphosphate and a small amount of potassium are added to the planting holes. The seat is prepared 7-14 days before the start of work.
Growing and care
Sverdlovchanka pear care measures are standard. But the main thing is their timely implementation. Until the plant is completely rooted, it is required to water it systematically (twice or even three times a week). Further watering is especially needed:
when the tree is in bloom;
when the fruits are formed;
when the harvest is over.
For 1 pear, 20-30 liters of water are used. Overflow should be avoided so that the roots are not damaged. After each watering, the wet soil is loosened and mulched. It is recommended to use sawdust or hay as mulch. Irrigation is recommended to be combined with top dressing.
The final feeding is carried out after the removal of the last fruits. When 2-4 weeks remain before the expected cold weather, it is very important to fertilize the soil with phosphorus and potassium. It is recommended to prune the crop either in early spring or in autumn, when the temperature will be from 0 to -5 degrees. Two-year-old seedlings are pruned at a level of 0.5 m above the base. Sanitary pruning of the crown will be required every year.
When the procedure is completed, all cut points are covered with garden varnish. An alternative is the treatment with crushed charcoal. In the southern regions of Russia, and partly in the middle lane, there is no need to prepare adult trees for winter. It still makes sense to cover young seedlings.
Disease and pest resistance
It is officially stated that this plant is not affected by fungal pathologies. Resistance to pathologies and pests makes it possible to dispense with the use of disinfecting drugs.To further reduce the risk, help:
periodic spraying with special preparations;
systematic fertilization;
active cleaning of debris and weeds;
regular loosening of the earth.
Like any other fruit trees, the pear needs protection from various diseases and pests. When planting a pear on your site, you need to know in advance what diseases you should beware of. To successfully carry out the struggle, it is necessary first to correctly identify the cause of the problem. It is important to distinguish signs of disease from manifestations of the presence of insects, mites, caterpillars and other types of pests.
Resistance to soil and climatic conditions
The Sverdlovchanka variety is highly resistant to cold weather. But all the same, it is necessary to play it safe and help the plants. Heat resistance not characterized. It is better to choose the same soil as for other pears.
Review overview
Gardeners say this variety works very well. Fruiting meets all expectations. The likelihood of illness is low. The tree grows to a large size. Even the Ural winters are tolerated without problems. The volume of the crop increases over time.
