The dessert pear Just Maria enjoys universal love. Its fruits have sweetness and wonderful aroma, can be stored for a long time, while maintaining their presentation, juiciness and taste. The purpose of the fruit is universal - fresh use, in desserts, in confectionery. They make excellent jams, preserves, and preserves.
Breeding history
The authorship in the breeding of a magnificent variety belongs to the breeders of the Belarusian RNPD of the Unitary Enterprise "Institute of Fruit Growing" - Myalik M. G., Yakimovich O. A., Alekseeva G. A. Just Maria appeared as a result of crossing 6 / 89-100 and Butter Ro. The variety was approved for use in 2013.
Description of the variety
A medium-sized (3 m) tree with a broad-pyramidal crown of medium density and a diameter of 2.3–3.5 m, covered with medium-sized dark green leaves. The leaf plate has an oblong shape, slightly folded along the central vein, and has a short-pointed end.
Advantages of the variety:
- dessert taste;
- strong immunity;
- regular fruiting;
- high commercial qualities;
- excellent transportability;
- storage duration and frost resistance;
- early maturity - 3 or 4 years after budding in the nursery.
Of the shortcomings, only conditional ones can be called - exactingness to the planting site, intolerance to proximity to wetlands or proximity to groundwater, as well as the need for pollinating varieties.
The pear blooms with white flowers with yellowish veins on the petals. The fruits are tied on simple or complex ringlets and spears of the second year, attached to a medium-sized curved peduncle.
Fruit characteristics
Medium-sized pear-shaped fruits (180 g) at the stage of technical and physiological ripeness are colored in a light yellow color of pleasant shades, with a slight blush of a light pink color, which makes them extremely attractive. No rusting was noticed.
Taste qualities
Medium-dense pulp of delicate creamy shades has a delicate buttery fine-grained structure with a large amount of juice. The sweet taste with a slight sourness is emphasized by a subtle, but clearly perceptible pear aroma.
Composition:
- sugar - 8.15%;
- vitamin C - 3.1%;
- titratable acids - 0.1%.
The fruits are covered with a thin, smooth skin with a shiny surface and numerous subcutaneous dots of green color, which stand out well against a lighter background. The assessment of the tasting committee is 4.8 points out of 5 possible, keeping quality is up to 5 months in a cool room.
Ripening and fruiting
The early-fruiting variety (fruiting occurs in 3-4 years) variety Just Maria belongs to the autumn category of pears in terms of ripening - the harvest is harvested at the end of July and until mid-August. Fruits reach consumer maturity in October-November. The pear is characterized by regular fruiting.
Yield
If in the first couple of years after the onset of fruiting, the pear gives a limited number of fruits, then up to 40 kg and up to 72 centners are removed from an adult tree from 1 hectare of tasty, juicy and aromatic fruits.
Growing regions
The culture is adapted for the climate of the Central regions, such as Moscow and the Moscow region, Ryazan, Belgorod, Voronezh districts, as well as Kursk, Orel, Smolensk, Tambov, Tula, Ivanovsky, Bryansk, Vladimir, Kostroma regions.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
It's just that Maria belongs to partially self-fertile varieties, but if you do not plant pollinator varieties with the same flowering time next to it, then you can not expect a stable and good harvest. These include the Memory of Yakovlev, Duchess, Koschia.
Landing
For planting pears, Just Maria choose a sunny place with protection from cold winds and strong drafts. The soil can be neutral, but fertile soil with good air permeability should be preferred. If the selected place is on depleted soil, it's okay, you just have to add more nutrients.
Particular attention should be paid to the proximity of the groundwater table - close proximity can destroy the root system. Strongly acidic soil must be deoxidized with dolomite or bone meal.
Planting pits are prepared about 2 weeks before disembarkation. A hole is dug 70x70 cm, a layer of drainage from pebbles, crushed stone of small and medium fractions, broken bricks, etc. is laid on the bottom. For a pear, soil with mild or neutral acidity is suitable. It is advisable to prepare the planting pit in advance: if the seedling is bought in the fall, the pit is prepared in the spring. The suitable diameter and depth of the hole is about 70 cm. The removed soil is enriched with organic matter (humus, bird droppings, compost), special fertilizers. After that, the soil is poured into a pit with a pre-installed peg, a mound is formed, covered with polyethylene and left in this form until the seedling is planted.
When planting, the roots of the plant are carefully distributed over the entire surface of the mound, fall asleep, making sure that the root collar remains on the surface. The near-trunk circle is well compacted, an earthen mound is organized around in order to retain moisture. At the final stage, the seedling is watered with 20-30 liters of settled warm water. The next day, the surface of the earth must be covered with a layer of mulch - this technique will prevent drying out, cracking of the soil, and weed germination.
Growing and care
In the first 2 years, the tree needs regular watering, in subsequent years, additional irrigation is carried out only during the drought period. Moisture is especially important during flowering and budding, as well as the appearance of ovaries. In addition, watering abundantly in late autumn will help the tree survive the winter.
In autumn, it is recommended to introduce organic matter - manure, humus, bird droppings, compost can be poured into the trunk circle as mulch, you can use the digging method without damaging the roots. In spring, the plant needs nitrogen, which stimulates the growth of vegetative mass; during flowering, the pear is fed with complex fertilizers with the necessary set of macro-, microelements and minerals.
Crown formation begins from the third year after planting. Don't forget about sanitary trimmings. Removing old, diseased, damaged shoots is a mandatory process that stimulates effective fruiting.
Disease and pest resistance
The pear is highly resistant to diseases such as scab, septoria, spotting, fungal infections and the scourge of gardens - bacterial cancer. However, the tree can be seriously damaged by pests:
- aphid;
- wasps;
- birds.
Special garden nets are saved from the latter. From everything else, preventive treatments with insecticides are required.
Like any other fruit trees, the pear needs protection from various diseases and pests. When planting a pear on your site, you need to know in advance what diseases you should beware of. To successfully carry out the struggle, it is necessary first to correctly identify the cause of the problem. It is important to distinguish signs of disease from manifestations of the presence of insects, mites, caterpillars and other types of pests.
Resistance to soil and climatic conditions
The variety is characterized as frost-hardy, able to withstand temperatures as low as -32 ºC. If frostbite of the branches occurs, the plant is able to quickly recover the damage suffered, and it does this in one summer period.
