Pear Pamyati Yakovlev is found in almost every nursery. The variety was included in the State Register of Varieties of the Russian Federation in 1985. Very popular for its hardiness and high quality fruit. There are other advantages that make the variety especially desirable on small farms.
Breeding history
The parents of the variety are Tema and Olivier de Serre. Theme is a variety widespread in Siberia and the Far East, it is fast, active, hardy, bears fruit every year, but does not set fruit without pollinators. Olivier de Serre - the owner of very tasty maturing pears with excellent creamy pulp, quite winter hardy, scab resistant, partially self-fertile. Yakovlev's Memory Pear turned out to be completely self-fertile, very hardy, compact, with tasty fruits.
Description of the variety
A short tree with a rounded compact crown, up to 1.5-2 meters tall, with medium thick shoots and medium leathery green foliage. The top of the leaves is twisted, the edge is serrate, the petioles are long, up to 2 cm. The crown density is average. Branches depart from the trunk almost at right angles, and in the future, numerous ringlets are formed - fruit branches. The bark is gray, smooth on young branches and shoots. The kidneys are conical, smooth. The flowers are white, non-double, with well-separated petals. The growth rate is excellent, the buds wake up early, amicably, the shoots are active.
Fruit characteristics
Fruits are medium in size, 125 g each, wide, pot-bellied, with barely noticeable ribs. The color of ripe fruits is light yellow, with a slight orange tan. During the period of removable maturity, the tone is slightly lighter; by the time of consumer maturity, pears gain color, it becomes a little thicker, golden yellow. There are few subcutaneous points. The pulp is semi-oily, juicy, creamy. The skin is smooth and shiny. Pears hold well on long, up to 4.5 cm, elastic petioles, are easy to assemble, and perfectly tolerate transportation. Commercial qualities are average, pears in Memory of Yakovlev have a good caliber and evenness, but they are not the best in these indicators.
Taste qualities
Pears taste sweet, without astringency. There is a slight sourness. The aroma is well noticeable, pleasant. The fruits are versatile. They are eaten fresh, baked, prepared various preparations: compotes, preserves, marmalade, jams. The pear has a good bouquet, the taste is rich, after heat treatment, the fruits can become more aromatic, new shades of taste appear. Some gardeners call the variety the best for harvesting.
Ripening and fruiting
The variety is early autumn, the fruits begin to ripen in late August - early September, the harvest is harvested throughout September. The early maturity is excellent. You can count on harvests as early as 3-4 years after planting the seedlings.
Yield
The yield is excellent, more than 220 kg / ha, 20 kg are removed from one tree.
Growing regions
The variety is recommended for growing in different regions.
Central (Moscow and Moscow region, Moscow region, Kaluga, Ryazan, Vladimir, Bryansk, Tula, Kaluga, Ivanovsk, Smolensk regions).
Central Black Earth (Kursk, Lipetsk, Tambov, Belgorod, Voronezh regions).
Srednevolzhsky (Penza, Ulyanovsk, Samara regions, the republics of Tatarstan and Mordovia).
Yakovlev's Memory Pear is also grown in Siberia, but this can be attributed to the field of experimental gardening. The stem of the plant freezes under severe winters. But in the areas adjacent to those mentioned, the pear can be grown successfully. It all depends on the climate of a particular site. If it is light, on a hill, then the pear is able to endure ordinary winters without loss, and even after freezing it is able to recover, the durability of the pear is phenomenal.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
Yakovlev's Memory Pear is self-fertile, can bear fruit even in the absence of other plants nearby. But for better fruiting, it is better to plant Lada or Avgustovskaya varieties next to it. But the variety itself is the best pollinator for some pears: August dew, Severyanka red-cheeked, Skorospelka from Michurinsk.
Landing
Saplings at the age of 2 years are planted in light, well protected from the winds. It is better to choose plots on hills, pears do not like stagnant water. Almost any soil is acceptable, but loose and nutritious is better. Good drainage is a must for all pears. Planting pits are prepared in advance, preferably 2-3 months in advance, or 2-3 weeks as a last resort. The pits should be up to 70 cm deep, a mound of nutrient mixture is poured onto the bottom: several buckets of humus, a glass of superphosphate, a glass of ash. If the soil is clayey, dense, the bottom of the pit is well dug up with sand.
Before planting, the roots of the seedlings are dipped in a chatter box, consisting of clay, garden soil (2 equal parts) and half a glass of ash. Before planting, the roots of the plant are gently straightened on a mound of nutrient soil, then sprinkled, slightly shaking the seedling. The root collar of the pear seedling should be 5 cm above the soil level. After watering, the soil is good, but not too dense, crushed, watered with 2 buckets of water.
Since the plant is not large, the plantings can be placed more densely. The usual distance between pear trees is not less than 7 meters, Yakovlev's memory can be planted at a distance of 3 meters from each other, between rows - 5 meters.
Growing and care
All varieties of pears love abundant watering, preferably by sprinkling, but some of them are more resistant to prolonged dry weather, and some are less. Yakovlev's Memory Pear belongs to the sensitive. For the best yields and the well-being of the tree, you need to ensure good watering, especially in dry summers without rain.
The winter hardiness of the variety is above average, even extreme winters will not damage the tree much. In these regions, it is possible to grow plants without shelter, however, in the Central region, it is still better to cover young plants well. In the southern regions, whitewashing of the trunks is enough for adult pears.
Scab resistance is high, but preventive treatments are desirable for all pears. Plants are sprayed with Horus or Fitosporin.
Formative pruning of the pear is desirable, but the variety can do without it. The crown will be spreading, with optimal gaps. It is enough just to remove the thickening shoots.
Like any other fruit trees, the pear needs protection from various diseases and pests. When planting a pear on your site, you need to know in advance what diseases you should beware of. To successfully carry out the struggle, it is necessary first to correctly identify the cause of the problem. It is important to distinguish signs of disease from manifestations of the presence of insects, mites, caterpillars and other types of pests.
Review overview
The variety is in demand. In areas with a temperate continental climate, the pear shows itself well. It is not as tender and sensitive to frost, burns, scab as other varieties. At the same time, it has a good taste, the size of pears, and an excellent yield. A small minus is the presence of stony areas in the pulp, but there are very few of them.
The Pamyati Yakovlev variety is considered a valuable owner of genes useful for breeding, is used as a donor of such qualities as compactness and endurance. The only drawback is the lack of evenness of the fruits, which is clearly visible with large yields. But on personal backyard plots this is not so important, but the phenomenal early maturity and compactness of the tree turn out to be very significant advantages. Some gardeners call the variety the best among the early autumn pears.
