This pear variety was named after the famous Russian geneticist Zhegalov. By crossing the Forest Beauty and Olga, a new kind of fruit crop was obtained. Now the variety can be found in different regions of the country.
Description of the variety
Pear fruits Memory Zhegalov have a universal purpose. Many delicious and sweet treats can be prepared from them. The trees are medium-sized. Young trees have a funnel-shaped crown. After it changes to oval-round. The density is average. The main branches grow obliquely vertically. The shoots are brown. They are medium in length and thickness, curved. Pubescence is not observed. Internodes of average length. Average leafiness.
The buds are small, collected from white petals, have the shape of a bowl. Flowers are collected in inflorescences of 5-7 pieces. The hand is corymbose. The foliage is medium, dark green. The surface is smooth, medium thickness. The shape is oval, elongated. The variety is characterized by fast growth. The trunk is covered with gray bark.
Fruit characteristics
In weight, the fruits gain about 120-130 grams. The shape can be either biconical or obovate. The basic color of pears is standard, green-yellow. The cover color is weak and barely noticeable. The pale red spot is strongly blurred. And also a slight rustiness is noticeable. Fruit sizes are medium.
An oily and juicy pulp forms under the skin, which melts in the mouth when eaten fresh. The texture is medium-grained. The color is cream. Thin peel is medium in density and does not interfere with enjoying the harvest in its natural form. The surface is glossy with shine. There are a large number of small subcutaneous points. Pears grow on strong stalks. 5-7 seeds are formed in one fruit.
Taste qualities
Taste characteristics pleased many Russian summer residents. They open up to their maximum after harvesting and storage for one or two weeks. The fruits are left to ripen at a compact temperature. The taste harmoniously combines sweetness and fruity sourness.
Pears are suitable for cooking:
jam;
jam;
compotes;
juices and other sweet preparations.
Fresh fruits are also often consumed. Fruit transportability is average. The attractiveness of the crop is complemented by a pronounced aroma. The assessment of professional tasters was 4.1-4.3 points, and the beauty of the fruit was estimated at 4.2-4.3 points.
Ripening and fruiting
Trees bear fruit regularly, especially if the variety is properly looked after. Pears ripen in late autumn.
Yield
Up to 40 kilograms of fruit can be harvested from one plant. To determine the degree of maturity, you need to pick one fruit and evaluate the color of the seeds. If the grains are white, harvest in about a week. The fruits can be stored for 120 days. The room should keep the temperature around the zero mark.
Landing
Planting pears of this variety is carried out in the fall or spring. Trees prefer areas that are bathed in sunlight. Sunlight is necessary not only for the growth of trees, but also for the formation of juicy and sweet fruits. The soil on the site is pre-prepared before transplanting a tree. It is carefully dug up and fed, especially if the land is depleted. And also dig out landing holes in advance. For fruit varieties, fertile and light soil is ideal.
A suitable site should be located at a minimum distance of 3 meters from tall buildings. When grown in one garden of several varieties, a gap of 5 meters is left between the trees. So that water does not stagnate on the territory, it is better to choose a flat place or a small hill. In the presence of groundwater, they should lie at a depth of about 3 meters.
In the process of digging into the site, one bucket of humus and half a kilogram of superphosphate are added. When grown in clay soil, slow development is observed. It is undesirable to plant rowan next to pears, as these trees are often attacked by harmful insects.
The planting process is carried out as follows.
If the planting of fruit trees is planned for the spring, the pit is prepared in the fall. Its size depends on the size of the pear. The optimum hole depth is about 0.8 meters and a meter in diameter.
Two buckets of soil mixed with peat and compost are sent to each pit. To increase fruiting, wood ash is used.
With the arrival of spring, a support made of wood is placed next to the hole. And also loosening of the soil is carried out.
A pear ready to be transplanted to a permanent place must be at least two years old. The plant is prepared by removing dry and deformed branches. An earthy clod around the root system is left intact and transplanted with it. When transplanting in the fall, foliage should fall from the branches, and if the work is done in the spring, the work is carried out before the buds form.
The plant is carefully placed in the hole and covered with earth.
The earth around the trunk is tamped and watered thoroughly.
Next to each tree, supports are installed to which the plant is tied.
The soil is covered with organic mulch.
Growing and care
The Pamyat Zhegalova variety easily tolerates extreme weather conditions and is characterized by average winter hardiness. Preventive treatments are also carried out to keep crops free from infections, pests and diseases.
Watering fruit trees is desirable by sprinkling. If it is not possible to use such a system, water is applied at the root - 30 liters of clean water will be enough for one tree. The frequency and amount of irrigation depends on the age of the plant, the weather and the season. With the onset of spring, watering is performed as the top layer of the earth dries up. During this time of the year, irrigation is carried out twice.
In summer, there are also only two waterings. The first time the procedure is performed at the beginning of June, the second - in the middle of the first summer month. In the heat, you need to moisten the ground for the third time in August. In autumn, the garden is irrigated only in early September.
Fertilizers with a high nitrogen content are introduced in the spring to form healthy green matter.Gardeners often opt for natural formulations. 500 grams of poultry droppings are dissolved in 10 liters of water. The nutritional composition is insisted for 24 hours.
Potassium and phosphorus are needed by fruit varieties in the summer for the formation of juicy fruits. Substances are applied by spraying.
Work schedule:
first portion - mid-July;
pears are fertilized a second time after three weeks.
To prepare top dressing, 15 grams of potassium sulfide and the same amount of superphosphate are used per bucket of water.
With the onset of autumn, fertilizers with potassium and phosphorus are also used: 30 grams of superphosphate and 15 grams of potassium salt are needed to feed one tree. And also using the above substances, you can prepare a nutrient solution.
You can achieve maximum yield through pruning. During the growing season, the procedure is performed several times: in spring, summer and August. First, they get rid of deformed and broken shoots, then thin out the crown, and for the third time get rid of dry and damaged branches.
Like any other fruit trees, the pear needs protection from various diseases and pests. When planting a pear on your site, you need to know in advance what diseases you should beware of. To successfully carry out the struggle, it is necessary first to correctly identify the cause of the problem. It is important to distinguish signs of disease from manifestations of the presence of insects, mites, caterpillars and other types of pests.
