Gardeners try to plant several varieties of the same crop in their backyards and summer cottages, so that in the summer-autumn season they constantly harvest vitamin fruits. This also applies to pears, which are early, mid-ripening and late. The first ripe and juicy fruits appear on early ripe varieties from the middle of summer, and the autumn Kokinsky pear tree variety is grown for storage and canning.
Breeding history
The hybrid variety of pears Kokinskaya was bred by Russian breeders under the guidance of the scientist A.A.Vysotsky in the experimental gardens of the Bryansk region. A new form of mid-season pome crop originated from the crossing of two varieties: Popular pear and French Curé.
Description of the variety
The hybrid pear grows up to 4 meters in height and belongs to the medium-sized plants among the related varieties. The pyramidal shape of the crown reaches a width of up to 3 meters in diameter. The main branches grow at a 45-degree angle to the trunk. The tree is covered with medium-dense dark green leaves. Pear Kokinskaya is a partially self-pollinated variety, ripening in autumn. Young trees enter the fruiting period early, and at maturity they delight their owners with large yields. The variety is distinguished by reliable resistance to diseases and low temperatures.
Fruit characteristics
The Kokinsky variety produces fruits of a light green color, which, when fully ripe, turn yellow, and are marked with pale red spots on the sunny side. On one tree, the fruits can differ noticeably in size, and the weight ranges from 120 to 200 grams. Sometimes there are especially large specimens, weighing 250 grams.
Taste qualities
As a dessert variety, pears are consumed in autumn and in the first half of winter. Lying a little in a cool place, the harvested fruits become juicy, with a pleasant aromatic taste, without the astringency characteristic of some varieties of culture. The sweetness of the white, slightly oily pulp is diluted with a slight sourness. Experts noted the hypoallergenicity of hybrid fruits, which allows them to be consumed raw by children from 6 months old and people prone to unhealthy reactions to fruits and vegetables. The Kokinskaya pear is also grown for the preparation of delicious canned food from freshly picked fruits.
Ripening and fruiting
The first significant harvests from a pear tree of the Kokinskaya variety are obtained by gardeners as early as 3-5 years after planting the seedlings. The tree develops and grows relatively quickly, which sometimes causes cracks in the bark. Flowers appear in May, and buds persist even after late frosts. Technical ripeness occurs in late August - early September, depending on the region of tree planting. Warm and sunny summers can help to ripen faster.
Yield
Pear Kokinskaya begins to bring noticeable yields on average from the 4th year of growth in a permanent place.Gardeners note that a tree that has been producing bountiful harvests for 3-4 consecutive years may then produce smaller fruits. In good years, about 80-100 kg of fruit can be harvested from one tree. Pears keep well for 2-3 months, which allows them to be grown for sale and transportation.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
Since the hybrid variety of pears Kokinsky is partially self-pollinated, planting other related plants nearby does not become mandatory. However, the yield increases slightly if there are additional pollinators in the garden, such as Bergamot Moskovsky or Lyubimitsa Yakovleva.
Landing
Independent propagation of varietal pears in the garden is possible by cuttings, seeds and grafting. When buying seedlings from nurseries, you should choose commercial farms with a good reputation. Plants should be strong, with a vibrant, shiny bark and a firm, well-developed root system. For transplanting, two-year-old seedlings with a height of 70-90 cm are best suited. You can plant young trees in open ground both in autumn and spring. Planting dates are based on standard traits suitable for many pome crops. In the southern regions of the Russian Federation, it is recommended to plant seedlings in early autumn, when they can still take root well before the onset of frost.
In the north of the country, pears are planted from the middle of the spring season, when the average daily temperatures reach 7-10 degrees Celsius, and there are no frosts at night.
After a decision comes to the owners of garden plots to plant the Kokinskaya pear, it is necessary to decide on the planting date and choose a suitable place. They prepare for the autumn purchase of seedlings starting in the summer, and for the spring - in the fall. The place reserved for pears must be dug well, large roots of shrubs and weeds must be removed. Organic and mineral fertilizers must be added to the loose soil. If the soil is acidic, you can add wood ash, dolomite flour or lime.
The best soils for growing pear trees are medium podzolic, sod, sandy loam and loamy soils. Plants feel worse in sandy or clay soils, poor in a fertile layer. Like many pome fruits, the pear does not grow well in the lowlands and is sick from the close occurrence of groundwater. Do not plant young trees next to sea buckthorn bushes, with its spreading roots, as well as old trees. If there is a low-rise building on the site, then the hybrid pear will give the best yields when planted from the south side, closed by walls from the north winds. Juniper or mountain ash growing next to the seedling can become a source of diseases and pests for the Kokinskaya variety.
Growing and care
The process of growing a hybrid mid-ripening pear is practically the same as caring for other seed trees. It should not be forgotten that waterlogged soil causes more disease and bark cracking than moderate and limited moisture. Pears develop normally and grow with regular and correct crown pruning.During seasonal gardening, you should carry out the usual activities such as fertilizing, loosening and mulching the soil in the root zone and protecting young plants from frost. In the first year after planting in the garden, young trees need regular watering in the amount of 20 liters of water for one plant once a week. In dry summers, adult pears are watered abundantly 2-3 times a month. After each watering, the root soil must be loosened and weeds removed.
In order to prevent and in case of massive damage to plants by seasonal pests, plants in the garden are sprayed with traditional preparations, for example, a 3% solution of Bordeaux liquid.
Like any other fruit trees, the pear needs protection from various diseases and pests. When planting a pear on your site, you need to know in advance what diseases you should beware of. To successfully carry out the struggle, it is necessary first to correctly identify the cause of the problem. It is important to distinguish signs of disease from manifestations of the presence of insects, mites, caterpillars and other types of pests.
