Pear Irista is a large, soon ripening, thermophilic variety. It grows in the middle and southern parts of the country, since the humid and temperate climate contributes to the rapid ripening of fruits. It is this pear that is most often recommended for planting in such an area.
Description of the variety
The period of fruit ripening and harvesting falls on the beginning of autumn. The tree itself grows to medium size. The height of an adult specimen rarely exceeds 4 meters. When collecting fruit, you may need a stepladder or a tall stool.
The foliage is small, round and elongated. A healthy leaf has a bright green-yellow color. Inflorescences are large, white with a sweet aroma. Flowering and ovary formation occurs at the end of April or beginning of May.
Fruit characteristics
The fruits themselves are quite large and juicy. When eating a fresh pear, you can hear a characteristic crunch. One fruit can weigh up to 155 grams. Has a classic shape. The top is strongly narrowed, and towards the bottom the silhouette broadens.
The standard color of a pear is bright light green. When ripe, you may notice yellow or pink hues in the base color. And also spots on the skin are normal. They tend to be slightly darker and have a different texture.
The pulp is characterized by a uniform density without dents, dips and rot.
Taste qualities
The range of flavors is very wide. The fruit combines light and refreshing sourness and almost honey sweetness. The taste directly depends on the degree of ripening of the pear. Thus, a greener fruit will have a muted sweet hue as opposed to a mature fruit. After harvesting, pears retain all their properties for a whole month. However, the plucked fruits should not be stored longer due to the fact that they undergo a decay process.
The fruits are suitable both for fresh consumption and for canning. The Irista pear jam or compote will turn out to be very piquant and spicy.
Ripening and fruiting
The Irista variety is very fruitful. However, before harvesting, the young tree must grow significantly. This process takes on average 5 to 6 years. During this period, the root system has time to solidify in the ground and begin to absorb useful trace elements and minerals into itself.
After that, the tree begins to bear abundant fruit annually. But once every few years, there may not be an ovary at all. This is due to the fact that the tree needs rest to recover all of its spent resources.
Yield
Pear Irista is one of the most fertile varieties. The harvest for the season can be quite large, but the plant needs proper care, which will create the most favorable conditions.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
The cultivar itself is partially self-fertile. Of course, you can harvest from a single tree, but its volume will not win you over.
To achieve much greater results, it is advisable to plant a pear near pollinating plants. This will increase the amount of fruit several times over.
Landing
The plant is planted in open ground. Before this, the soil is thoroughly cultivated. Useful mineral or organic fertilizers are poured into the hole, which help the seedling gain strength and grow stronger in new conditions.
The location should be chosen in advance. The pear does a good job with drought or heat, but partial shade is a better option.
After the tree is planted, it is necessary to water the plant regularly. Make sure it doesn't dry out.
Growing and caring
Despite its many qualities, the variety is undemanding to care for. But basic procedures must be carried out regularly.
The plant needs timely watering. It is not necessary to carry out water treatments too often, as excess moisture can cause mold formation.
The tree needs to be pruned annually. This should be done as delicately as possible so as not to damage the trunk or fruiting branches.
Plant feeding is carried out several times a year. This is done to ensure that the harvest is richer and of better quality.
Disease and pest resistance
Unlike its counterparts, the variety demonstrates high resistance to external threats. So, the plant calmly undergoes the attacks of most parasites and the formation of rot. Do not forget about prevention, which will significantly lengthen the life of the tree.
If intruders are found, treat and flush infected areas. If possible, separate the infected branches. The resulting waste should be disposed of as soon as possible.
Examine nearby plants for disease. If you notice the spread of the infection, then you need to carry out mass disinfection. Regular preventive treatment will relieve you of these problems.
Like any other fruit trees, the pear needs protection from various diseases and pests. When planting a pear on your site, you need to know in advance what diseases you should beware of. To successfully carry out the struggle, it is necessary first to correctly identify the cause of the problem. It is important to distinguish signs of disease from manifestations of the presence of insects, mites, caterpillars and other types of pests.
