Glass furniture continues its triumphant march, it has repeatedly proved its suitability for modern styles. But it is all the more important to know everything about glass TV cabinets. The slightest mistakes in their choice can lead to very bad consequences and even devalue the idea itself.

Peculiarities

It is logical to start a conversation about a glass TV stand with why it is purchased. This design can create an effect of visual lightness that is so lacking in modern interiors. Even if the physical size of the product is large, it will still look very pleasant.

Another factor in favor of glass is its wide compatibility with other materials. But more on that later, as well as compatibility with various design styles.

Further, it should be noted:

  • ample opportunities for additional design;
  • comparative cheapness;
  • long service life;
  • sanitary and environmental safety;
  • increased resistance to heat (clearly greater than that of wood and any plastic);
  • high likelihood of injury to young children and pets;
  • increased soiling of the surface;
  • the inability to mask scratches, cracks and similar defects.

Varieties

Before characterizing the geometric shapes and technical performance, it is worth talking a little about the types of glass that are used to create the pedestals. Tempered glass is widely used. Its thickness is from 0.8 to 2 cm. The material is initially heated up to 600 degrees, and then rapidly cooled. Such hardening, as in the case of metal, significantly increases the strength of the workpiece.

A sheet of tempered glass can easily withstand any load that an adult can create. You can even dance on it, and there will be no consequences. True, a blow from the butt end will shatter the curbstone into many pieces. But you do not need to be afraid of them - shards of tempered glass practically do not pose a threat.

It is impossible to scratch such material, however, it is impossible to drill it either.

Textured glass is often used. For its characteristic external feature, it is called "crushed ice". This is the same hardened variety, only crushed glass chips are placed in the middle of the sheet. Float is a good alternative. It is a smooth and even high-end material.

Now we can talk about geometric shapes. Corner TV stands are quite widespread. Such a solution, contrary to the obvious, can be applied not only in a corner or in a very limited space. Thanks to shelves and additional sections, often used in corner models, their capacity may even be larger than that of direct counterparts.

The original geometry is usually custom made.

Can be found:

  • semicircular;
  • triangular;
  • oval;
  • in the form of a polygon;
  • another intricate design of television stands.

It is worth mentioning about the models with glass doors. Such a product allows you to visually view the entire space on the shelves, the items located there. Some variants are supplied with a bracket. So it becomes possible to turn furniture (change the angle of inclination of the unit).

Styles

It is quite logical, since you are choosing an accessory for your TV, to buy a product in a modern style. It is characterized by straight, smooth shapes and clear angles. But this does not mean that you have to limit yourself to black furniture. It is quite possible to use a dark solution of other tones in modern style. Or even light or pronouncedly bright - it all depends on your own taste.

The main thing for maintaining the general spirit is to strive for external brevity. Any complication is already deviating from the canons of modern style.

But there is one drawback - for the same reason, these canons are deliberately unacceptable in a lush, richly decorated room. The solution is to use techno or hi-tech styles. They are characterized by:

  • the same smoothness of lines;
  • active use of sharp corners;
  • emphasized futuristic appearance as a whole.

Classic furniture looks different. In this case, glass fades into the background. And the first comes out with natural wood, which looks attractive in any situation. Only individual elements are made of glass. When using the loft style, metal inserts are welcome, and if minimalism is chosen, you will have to give preference to low, tapered structures.

Compatible materials

As already mentioned, glass works well with metal. Chrome or aluminum coated details look very good in ultra-modern environments. If the room is decorated in a classic spirit, however, wooden frames (and the same frames) are more appropriate. But if you add forged details, you can use a glass cabinet even in a Provence or country setting.

But we must not forget that the most transparent material has its own "spirit", and it will also have to be taken into account.

You also need to remember about the material of the countertop. In budget versions, plastic is actively used. Despite the cost-effectiveness, it is worth noting the low reliability, so that in the end such a solution is unlikely to be profitable. A perfectly reasonable option is metal. It is appreciated for its resistance to wear and tear and a long service life.

Also the table top can be made of:

  • the same glass (it is logical in modern-style rooms, it is easy to clean);
  • stone (hygienic and not requiring complex care);
  • wood (guaranteeing solidity and good appearance);
  • Chipboard (similar to wood, but much cheaper).

Criterias of choice

The most important point here is that the glass cabinet matches the TV that will be placed on it. This is not only about external coincidence (although this is also important, of course). The point is that the furniture can withstand a significant load, and its size allows you to put a TV.

It is very good if there is a margin of at least 0.1 - 0.2 m to any edge. Otherwise, it is very easy to touch and overturn an expensive device.

The height is selected so that the image on the screen is clearly visible. Both the constantly lowered and constantly bulging head not only strain emotionally - it is also harmful to health. If you want to add some zest to the design of the room, you need to choose products based on frosted glass. Its translucent surface is formed after meticulous acid etching using a special technique.

But to achieve the illusion of maximum spaciousness, you need to use traditional transparent glass. The bedside table in this case is glazed either partially or along the entire perimeter. The choice between such solutions is a matter of personal taste.

Quite a few people prefer tinted designs, and this point should be clarified in advance if you plan to buy a piece of furniture as a gift.

Examples in the interior

Let us now consider several options for using glass pedestals in practice. The combination of almost black glass with an imposing black facade looks brilliant. In addition, the creators clearly tried to implement the effect of floating in the air. The external beauty of the composition is complemented by decorative elements. A logically accurate complement is the gray wall as a background.

But the pedestal can also be made in a multi-tiered version... A vivid example of such a solution is shown in the photo. Outwardly, everything looks concise, there is nothing superfluous. The aesthetic connection with the wall is nice. A few decorative elements are at the very edge of perception, and everything is very strict and functional.
