Now in stores there are a lot of options for flower pots in different price categories. But as you know, things made with love with your own hands have a special energy. In addition, your product will have an original, one-of-a-kind design. Making a flower pot from plaster does not require any special skills and abilities.

What is gypsum?

Gypsum is a material known since ancient times, which is obtained from gypsum stone. To make a powder, the stone is fired in ovens and then thoroughly crushed. Gypsum is used in construction, in the creation of porcelain and ceramic products, as well as in medicine. This material is appreciated for its density and strength, it dries quickly and dissolves in water. There are several types of gypsum that are used in different fields.

Choice of shape and size

Before you start making a flower pot, you need to choose a shape and size that suits this or that interior. Plants that will stand on the windowsill are more suitable for small oval or square pots. If you have large flowers, choose a floor for placing them and make large pots, rectangular or multifaceted. Groups of plants in pots of different geometric shapes look beautiful on the floor or on a special stand. If you plan to place flowers on the veranda or near the house for the summer, then try making large, tall oval or rectangular pots.

Manufacturing technology

To make plaster flower pots at home with your own hands, you need a minimum of materials and a little free time. Using various interesting shapes and original decor, you can effortlessly get a stylish and unique item that will decorate your interior. The creative process will surely give you positive emotions and inspire new unusual ideas. To start the process, you need to prepare the following tools and materials:

  • plastic containers of different sizes, but the same shape;
  • gypsum;
  • water;
  • brushes;
  • cling film;
  • acrylic paint;
  • gloves;
  • knife;
  • floor protection film;
  • elements for decoration.

The manufacturing process is subject to a specific algorithm.

  • Mix gypsum and water in a 2: 1 ratio. Mix the resulting mixture well. It should be of medium density.
  • We cover a larger container inside with cling film, and wrap a smaller one with a film outside. This will help to easily separate the gypsum once it has set. And also it should be taken into account that the smaller capacity should be higher, so that it will be easier to pull it out later.
  • We cover the floor with foil. Pour a 3 cm thick solution at the bottom of a large container and wait for it to harden slightly.
  • We put a smaller container inside.
  • At the bottom of the smaller container we put weight (sand or any heavy objects).
  • Gypsum mortar should be carefully poured into the free space between the walls of these containers.
  • We leave it for 2 hours so that the solution finally solidifies.
  • We cut the plastic containers and take out the finished pot.
  • Using a knife, we cut out various patterns and ornaments on the plaster surface.
  • We dry the made flower pot for several days so that all the moisture evaporates.
  • We pass to the stage of decoration. We paint the plaster with acrylic paints. Optionally, the flower pot can be decorated with mosaics, shells, beads and any other small elements.
