Gypsophila, or Kachim, belonging to the Clove family, is not so uncommon to meet on a personal plot. She is able to decorate even the most boring flower bed. I fell in love with the culture for its simplicity in growing and for its very beautiful, delicate appearance. During flowering, the miniature flowers resemble dewdrops. The plant feels especially comfortable in the hot and arid south, since in nature gypsophila grows on poor mountainous and steppe soils.

Paniculata gypsophila and its description

Gypsophila paniculata refers to a perennial herbaceous crop, intended for growing in the open field as an ornamental flowering shrub. Depending on the variety, the height varies from 50 to 100 cm. The shape of the crown is spherical, due to which the view has a different name - "tumbleweed". Stems grow at right angles, which are covered with a smooth and tough skin of gray-green color.

The annual growth of young shoots is high, paniculate inflorescences are formed on them. Few leaves on the stems are formed, they are small, lanceolate, with a rare arrangement. Flowers are formed of 2 types: simple and double, in the form of bells, mostly white. Flowering occurs in mid-summer and lasts until early autumn.

The plant is self-pollinated. After flowering is complete, fruits appear in the form of a ball with a large number of small seeds. The paniculate gypsophila has a well-developed root system, which goes 80 cm deep. It should be noted that this variety is picky about the composition of the soil and the prospective neighbors. The plant does not get along well with all biological species.

The culture prefers to grow in open sunny areas, without shading, since the duration and intensity of flowering depends on the duration of sunlight. Prefers to grow on loamy or sandy loam, breathable soils. The rocky hill is the most comfortable place for this culture.

Before planting paniculate gypsophila in your area, you should take into account its intense growth in width... 70 cm is left between the rows, and at least 100 cm between the plants. In full force, the shrub blooms for 3 years of planting. The bush is planted at the end of May, in a previously prepared area.

In one place, without a gypsophila transplant, it can grow for at least 15 years, subject to proper care. Watering is moderate, as the earthen coma dries up, with a small amount of water, only at the root. The soil must be loosened and mulched. Top dressing is applied 2 times per season. In the spring, the crop needs nitrogen-containing fertilizers, and in the fall, after flowering - organic matter, rotted manure is used. Compost is not used.

When the plant blooms, the stems are cut, leaving shoots 6-7 cm above the ground. The bush must be prepared for wintering. To do this, they carefully spud it, lay a layer of mulch and cover it with agrofibre or coniferous branches.

Gypsophila have strong immunity to major diseases. For preventive purposes, during the budding period, the bushes are sprayed with copper sulfate.

"Snowflake" - a small shrub, up to 50 cm high, on which a large number of small, double flowers of a snow-white color are formed. The variety is drought and frost resistant.

"Flamingo" - ornamental shrub, reaching a height of 120-140 cm. Densely leafy, narrow and long leaves of light green color. It blooms profusely with large, double inflorescences of a pale pink tone. The plant blooms in early June.

"Mirabella" - strongly branched bush. Small thin leaves and many small white flowers give the culture an airiness. This variety is widely used in floristry in the design of bouquets. Also, the plant can become a real decoration of a flower bed.

"Paniculate White" - the bush grows short, about 100 cm and 80 cm in diameter. The plant is medium-branched, which grows in the upper part. Blooms profusely with small flowers, collected in paniculate inflorescences. Flowering is long, starting at the end of June and lasting about 2 months.

Features of gypsophila arecii

Gypsophila areciiform - a rare guest on the backyard. The homeland of this species is the mountainous regions of Iran. The plant is undersized, the maximum height does not exceed 3 cm, covered with gray-green foliage and white flowers of the sedentary type. Flowering occurs in July. The bush is loose, cushion-shaped. The peculiarity of the species is very slow growth.

The culture prefers to grow on calcareous soils, open, sunny places. Namely, on soils rich in calcium, therefore, most often this plant can be found in areas where limestone prevails in the ground. The variety can withstand sudden temperature changes.

In turn, the areciiform gypsophila does not tolerate excessive moisture, especially in winter, because of which the bush can completely freeze out. The plant can be propagated by seeds or cuttings.

Other popular varieties

Any gardener can choose one or another type of gypsophila for himself, since this culture has about 100 varieties of perennial and annual bushes. Despite the fact that the plant has been known for several centuries, in our country the flower is more used as a dried flower when creating bouquet compositions, giving them a zest of airiness and lightness. However, every year gypsophila is gaining more and more popularity as a garden flower that does not require special care skills, but can become a real garden decoration.

Creeping

The miniature gypsophila creeping pink has a special charm. A herbaceous bush, not exceeding 15 cm, during the flowering period turns into a real flower ball due to the huge number of inflorescences. In addition, this variety is undemanding to care for, which is why it is so popular among gardeners.

The creeping gypsophila, or field, compensates for its short stature by creeping shoots and a spreading crown. Miniature lanceolate leaves are gray-green in color. The highly branched central stem grows without leaves.

Flowering begins in June and lasts about 2 months with small pink flowers, which are collected in loose inflorescences. There are so many flowers on the bush that it resembles a pink cloud from afar. In the southern regions, the culture can bloom again in September, but not so abundantly.

Jascolkovid

Herbaceous perennial shrub, reaching a height of 15-30 cm, in diameter up to 40 cm, which grows rather quickly. The leaves are round in shape, with bright white flowers with pink veins. This variety is widely used in landscape rocky rock gardens as a ground cover crop. The plant looks especially attractive in hanging containers and pots. Flowering earlier, begins in May.

Graceful

An annual species, spherical in shape, growing to a height of 40-50 cm. Small lanceolate leaves and medium-sized flowers of pink, white or carmine tones are formed on highly branched shoots. Unfortunately, the lush bloom is short-lived. Common varieties:

  • "The Rose" - pink inflorescences;
  • "Carmine" - inflorescences are red;
  • "Double Star" - inflorescences are bright pink.

Pacific

A high variety of gypsophila, growing to 90-120 cm. The crop's appearance is very attractive, and the height allows the use of cut stems in the design of bouquets. Wide blue-gray leaves grow on strongly branched shoots. During the flowering period, the bushes are strewn with a huge number of double or simple inflorescences of a white-pink hue.

Wall

A short bush, no more than 30 cm in height, is able to bloom all summer. The culture is especially loved by gardeners for its high adaptability to various conditions. Small pink, lilac, purple and white flowers are collected in loose panicles.

"Mirage"

A bush culture, reaching a height of about 20-30 cm. The variety attracts attention with dense pink inflorescences, similar to a large ball. The flowering is very lush and long lasting.

"Rosenschleier"

A hybrid variety that combines the varietal qualities of creeping and paniculate gypsophila. Ampel culture does not exceed 40 cm in height and 100 cm in diameter, but it grows well in width. The plant looks especially attractive along the paths when it blooms with small white flowers, especially since "Rosenschleier" blooms longer than other species and varieties of gypsophila. In one place the bush grows without transplant for about 10 years.
