Geranium "Rosanna" is a very beautiful and bright perennial, which has been pleasing the eyes of all flower growers in the world for quite a long time. This plant is picky, frost-resistant and has many of the brightest colors.

Description and appearance of the plant

Today, there are more than 350 varieties of geraniums in the world. The native land of this plant is most likely India or Africa, although many people think that the plant belongs to immigrants from the UK. In any case, the British brought geranium to our lands, who used it to decorate flower beds and gardens.

The "Rosanna" variety is considered the most beautiful type of geranium.

    The history of its appearance is very interesting: this species appeared in the garden of Donald and Roseanne flower growers back in 1989. The bees simply crossed two neighboring species.

    The first years, the couple enveloped this hybrid with their care and affection, and after a few years they brought this variety to a specialized exhibition, which attracted a lot of attention from lovers of beauty.

    In its arsenal, garden geranium has many shades, including purple, blue-violet, and whitish. The stems of "Roseanne" are long and recumbent, and the large flowers are shaped like a glass. The leaves have a rich color and a pleasant smell characteristic only for this species. The foliage has its own unpretentious pattern, which is very striking. Mature shrubs grow up to 70 centimeters wide.

    The Roseanne geranium has two distinct varieties.

    • Azure Rush with pale purple flowers and a white center. The bush is much smaller than the Roseanne.
    • Lilac ice Is a collectible type. Its flowers tend to change their color in accordance with the weather.

    Popular varieties

    There are many different types of Roseanne geraniums, and they all have the properties to bloom at different times:

    • Geranium x magnificum - this is a variety that appeared as a result of crossing flat-leaved and Georgian geraniums;
    • "Double Jewel" - the tallest variety, the height of which sometimes reaches 80 centimeters;
    • "Mrs. Kendall Clark" - a kind of geranium with unique transparent petals;
    • Split Splash - differs in double flowers.

    Geranium varieties such as Oki Doki, Pipp Herron, Victor Reitor and Focus Pocus are characterized by red leaves. There are also varieties with lavender flowers - Summer Skies and Plenum Violaceum.

    Plant care

    The most important factors in caring for Rosanna are sunlight (at least 6 hours a day), drainage, regular watering and occasional mineral fertilization. The flower will feel great both on an open surface and in a flowerpot.

    • The sun's rays contribute to the bright flowering of the plant, but you should not abuse the light at the same time - harmony must be observed in everything. If the light is sorely lacking, the plant stops blooming and soon dies. Avoid direct sunlight.
    • Watering should be done only after the soil of the plant is completely dry, not otherwise. Do not flood the plant as the root system may start to rot. It is better to use water for irrigation at room temperature, there is no need to spray the plant. If the geranium is in a flowerpot, water can be added to the pan.

    The plant does not require pruning, but if it stops blooming regularly, you can rejuvenate a little "Roseanne".To do this, remove old areas and those stems that interfere with good growth.

    • Geranium does not need an annual transplant. The only exception to this rule is the situation when the flower simply does not fit in the flowerpot. In this case, even separation of the rhizome is possible. If possible, then geranium should be transplanted to open surfaces.
    • It should not be forgotten that in the spring "Roseanne" requires mineral and organic feeding.

    Features of planting a plant

    Since the hybrid "Roseanne" is frost-resistant and gives stunning growth even with minimal care, it can very often be found in city flower beds. In just a few years, a plant can fill about a yard of land.

    In order to fill the entire area with flowers, it is necessary to adhere to the principle of dense planting.

    • Before planting, the soil must be prepared - a small amount of peat is placed in each dug hole. A couple of weeks after that, you can start planting the plant.
    • As for the place for planting a plant, it can be both a flower bed and pots. Choosing the right flowerpot for geraniums, you must first of all not forget that the plant grows very quickly, therefore there should be enough space for such growth.
    • You can plant geraniums both in the sun and in darker places. If the plant is in a pot, if possible, take it outside or on the balcony during the summer.

      The soil of the plant must be loose and moist, then the planting will give its result. But do not initially fill the flower with water completely.

      "Rosanna" is a very beautiful addition to flower arrangements, and many of its colors will dilute even the most primitive flowers.

      Reproduction

      An interesting fact is that this plant does not give seeds at all, therefore it blooms for almost half a year. There are several types of breeding "Rosanna". It can be transplanted by dividing the root or by grafting.

        If the root separation method is used, the action must be carried out with extreme caution, since the roots are very easy to damage.

        It is better to do this when the plant is full of strength and there are many buds on it, which will then contribute to the growth of the flower.

        Cutting is the best method for propagating "Rosanna", because one plant can later grow a whole flower bed. When grafting, you need to adhere to the following simple rules:

        • it is imperative to use a sterile knife with which the stalk is cut;
        • at least three healthy leaves should remain on the upper part of the cutting;
        • the cuttings are dried, and the sections should be treated with a solution of activated carbon;
        • landing is carried out in the ground to a depth of 2 centimeters.

        Diseases and pests

        This variety has a developed immunity to diseases and pests. But due to improper care, or rather, due to arid conditions or lack of lighting, garden geraniums may die.

        Grayish spots on flowers will signal the presence of a fungal disease. If the plant is left untreated, the stem will start to rot. To combat this disease, it is necessary to clean the geranium from weeds, remove all affected areas and treat with a fungicide.

        If the hybrid "Rosanna" is under attack by aphids and whiteflies, then it can be treated with drugs such as "Actellic" or "Coman".

        In the case when a cabbage caterpillar or mites starts up, the plant must be treated with products that contain special oils and soap.

        The popularity of the Roseanne geranium is no coincidence. The plant begins its color from the end of May until the first frost appears. It is unpretentious and resistant to disease, therefore it is very popular with flower growers.
