A lush green lawn is considered the perfect decoration for any plot of land. The dense grass cover fulfills not only an aesthetic, but also a practical function. The air is saturated with oxygen, and weeds do not break through dense vegetation. There are many ways to arrange a live lawn, including on a sandy site.

Does the lawn grow on sandy soil?

The lawn on the sand will take root without problems, the main thing is to responsibly approach the task at hand and precisely follow the recommendations of specialists. The site must be properly prepared. The work will take much longer than cultivating fertile land. The sand is suitable for both artificial grass and natural vegetation.

There are several ways to get a beautiful green lawn: arrange a layer of earth and plant a garden lawn on it or use ready-made rolls. In the latter case, you do not have to wait for the seeds to germinate.

Before starting work, it is necessary to draw up a diagram of the site where the lawn will be located. Leave space for trees, shrubs and other plants if necessary.

You cannot do without cleaning the area from debris: weeds, old trees, roots and others. It is impossible to sow lawn seeds directly into the sand. The top layer must be removed, as well as top dressing and other compounds added to the soil. They are needed to make the sand more nutritious for the plants.

As organic components, you can use black soil, peat or loam... Fertilize the site with mineral compounds or humus. Each of the elements is added to the sand gradually in order to obtain the most fertile composition.

Styling

To create a beautiful green lawn, you need a layer of fertile soil at least 30 centimeters thick. It is recommended to lay the rolled lawn on black soil. Its composition is excellent for growing a variety of plants.

The workflow looks like this:

  • the land plot needs to be cleaned and leveled;
  • the territory is rammed using a vibrating platform or a roller;
  • a layer of fertile soil is poured on top - the density of the grass cover depends on its thickness;
  • the site is covered with a roll lawn, while canvases with developed sod are used.

Top dressing and other nutrients are applied about a week before laying. It is also recommended to thoroughly water the area, especially if the weather is dry and hot. To lay a lawn, you do not need to have special skills and abilities. It is enough to follow the instructions and lay the rolls carefully.

A lawn in this format is grown in special nurseries. The process takes 1.5 to 3 years. Lawns grown using grass mixtures (bluegrass, red fescue, etc.) are very popular.

If the cover has been grown to all standards, it will be free of weeds. Another characteristic is dense, lush and vibrant vegetation. Such a lawn is perfect for decorating the local area or decorating a park area.

Sod laying is necessary in one day. It is worth preparing in advance for work. Before buying a turf, you need to accurately calculate its amount (buy rolls with a margin).

The rolls should be laid in a straight line - so the lawn will turn out to be neat and even. The length of the canvases should be adjusted in such a way that a new row starts with a new roll.If there are cut pieces, they should be placed in the middle of the section so that they are between the whole strips.

The first laid row must be carefully tamped using a special device. A press with a handle will do just fine. Press gently on the grass so as not to damage it.

If depressions are noticed on the canvas, they can be leveled immediately with the help of fertile soil.

You cannot immediately walk on a fresh lawn, it needs to settle down in a new place and strengthen itself. Otherwise, wood flooring must be used.

Signs of a good quality roll lawn:

  • lack of weeds and other plants;
  • there should be no insects and debris inside;
  • the optimal height is about 4 centimeters;
  • the thickness of the grass cover should be the same throughout the entire canvas;
  • powerful and developed root system;
  • the canvas should be strong and flexible, a high-quality product does not tear and retains its shape;
  • the average roll weight ranges from 20 to 25 kilograms.

Some specialists use geotextiles in order to reliably lay the rolled lawn.

Landing

The second way to arrange a green area is to plant lawn grass. Sowing can be carried out almost at any time of the year (a suitable period begins in mid-spring and ends in autumn, in the second half). It is necessary to sow seeds in calm weather, otherwise they will scatter over the entire area, and the grass cover will be uneven.

You can do the job manually or use a special seeder. Before planting seeds, it is necessary to prepare nutritious feeding.

Nitrogen fertilizers should not be used in the fall or late summer. Otherwise, the grass will turn yellow.

The sowing process involves several steps.

  • First you need to remove the top layer of sand. They shoot about 40 centimeters. It is not worth throwing away the sand - it will still come in handy.
  • The land plot is rammed over the entire area.
  • Small grooves are made around the lawn. They are filled with large branches. Sand is poured on top. The result should be a drainage system for the outflow of excess moisture.
  • The prepared area must be covered with a uniform layer of loam. The optimum thickness is 10 centimeters. It is dug up with sand.
  • It is necessary to prepare a mixture of sand, loam and humus. All components are thoroughly mixed in equal proportions. The finished composition covers the area, the layer thickness is from 10 to 15 centimeters.
  • The lawn is watered with plenty of water and left for 24 hours.
  • You cannot do without a mixture of peat and black soil in a ratio of 1 to 1. This composition is sprinkled on the site. You can add some silt to the mixture. Instead, it is allowed to use ready-made mineral fertilizers. They will saturate the soil with nutrients and inhibit the growth of weeds.
  • The prepared area must be left for 30-40 days.
  • The next step is to loosen the soil a little with a rake, and you can start sowing.
  • Seeds need to be spread evenly throughout the area, especially if the work is done by hand. To begin with, it is recommended to move along the site, then across. It is necessary to sprinkle the area with seeds in such a way that the seed completely covers the area.
  • Sprinkle the seeds with a layer of sand. First, mix it with black soil in equal proportions. The layer height should not exceed 2 centimeters.
  • The area is rammed with wide boards.
  • The last step is to water the area abundantly. Now you can wait for the lawn to start sprouting.

To grow a dense lawn, you need to sow the area with quality seed. In this case, the grass will have a bright color and splendor. To consolidate the result obtained, you need to periodically water the soil and add fertilizers to it.

Care

When sowing, the first shoots will appear on the site in about a week. The rate of grass growth is influenced by the composition of the soil mixture, weather conditions and other factors. The lawn grass needs to be watered regularly, otherwise the lawn quickly loses color and dries out. Irrigation should be carried out every other day and always in the evening. Watering in the heat is harmful to plants.

As soon as the grass grows 4-6 centimeters, it's time to trim the area. This is necessary not only for a neat appearance, but also for quick division of the sprouts. The naked eye will notice that the lawn has become more lush. For an attractive appearance and health of the lawn grass, mowing should be done regularly.

It is enough to cut the area once a week. Work should only be carried out in dry weather. Lawn mower blades must be sharp, otherwise the top of the lawn will become chewed and darkened.

With the arrival of the warm season, you need to periodically make top dressing. Experts advise using complex formulations based on minerals. On the market, you can find formulations designed specifically for lawn grass.

To make the land plot as fertile as possible, mulch is used. It is also suitable for flattening depressions. For sandy soil, it is recommended to choose a composition of compost, coarse sand and sod humus. The finished mixture is evenly distributed over the area.
