Sooner or later, any owner is faced with wear and tear and corrosion of favorite items of the external or internal interior. And so I want to give things a second life! What materials can help in this?

Appointment

Primer-enamel 3 in 1 is a universal composition for restoring the appearance of metal structures. It does not require prior priming paint for metal, performing the following functions:

  • stopping foci of rust on the metal surface and preventing its further spread;
  • coating the product with a primer that promotes better adhesion to paint;
  • painting the surface of the structure with decorative enamel.

Thanks to the combination of functions in the primer-enamel, you do not have to apply several layers of various materials to the product and wait for them to dry completely before applying each subsequent one. This saves a lot of time and money, and also reduces the number of working tools.

Most often, primer-enamel is used to cover street structures: gratings, fences, gates, garages, doors and outdoor furniture. This is due to the fact that soil enamels are atmospheric resistant to moisture, cold and sun. But it is also possible to use the composition for decorative purposes - for coating various interior items.

It should be noted the widespread use of primer-enamel in car repairs, especially its internal parts. Hard-to-reach places, where there is constant contact with oil, steam or high temperature, can be easily covered with one or more layers of primer-enamel. After that, the components of the car become resistant to aggressive influences.

In industry, these compounds also found their place due to the chemical resistance to oils, aggressive media, water and steam. They are used to cover elements of industrial and building structures, hangars and warehouses.

Primer-enamel can be used not only for cast iron, steel and aluminum products. It is often used to coat wood, concrete, mineral and brick surfaces both indoors and outdoors.

Ease of use, good appearance of products and availability in stores make this coating an irreplaceable assistant in the household.

Composition

The versatility of the primer enamel provides the presence of several components in its base.

  • Alkyd urethane varnish. It is a fast drying alkyd resin composition combined with urethane components. It is the glue.
  • Anti-corrosion materials. Two components should be distinguished here: anti-corrosion pigments, which prevent the formation of new foci of rust, and rust modifiers (or converters), which neutralize existing corrosion. Such additives form a phosphate film on corrosive areas.
  • Enamel. For the formation of a surface colored layer of the product.
  • Plasticizers and other additives. Improves the working properties of the primer enamel.
  • Solvent. Provides the required working viscosity of the material. To give a given viscosity, the varnish is diluted with white spirit. Therefore, it is precisely this that should be used when diluting thickened soil enamels.

Manufacturers, competing with each other, are constantly improving the composition of primers, producing them in a wide range of colors, introducing new additives, indicating information about this on the packaging.

Specifications

There is an opinion that you can prepare the primer-enamel yourself by mixing the primer with the paint you like. However, the result is likely to be disastrous, because mechanical stirring will only worsen the properties of both the primer and the enamel. It's all about a special production technology for the production of primer-enamel, thanks to which the primer layer will adhere to the surface of the product, and the finishing lacquer layer will remain on the surface. For this purpose, various additives and additives are introduced into the composition.

Manufacturing technology of multifunctional primers gives them excellent qualities.

  • Resistant to temperatures. It is recommended to apply the primer-enamel at a temperature of 20 ° C - then the drying temperature declared by the manufacturer and the properties of the material will be reached. But if necessary, you can use it even at sub-zero temperatures. And the applied and dried primer-enamel retains all its properties at temperatures from -45 ° C to + 100 ° C.
  • Density and elasticity of the finished coating. When applied correctly, cracks will not appear for several years.
  • Low material consumption. Compared to classic varnish-and-paint materials, the consumption of primer-enamel will be about 30% less, even if the coating is applied in several layers.
  • Atmospheric resistance. Primer-coated products are resistant to sun, moisture, salt and oil, making this material ideal for refreshing outdoor interiors.

Hammer paint is a type of traditional primer enamel. Metal powder is additionally added to its composition, and the treated surface looks like a blacksmith's processed - hence the name of the paint. It can be unmistakably identified by its textured "pebbled" surface and metallic sheen. It is also applied to rust, combining the functions of a primer and enamel.

Metal additives make this paint more difficult to spray and require a brush or roller. Also, on vertical surfaces, metal particles may move downward, which will worsen the original appearance of the product. But when applied using the technology, hammer enamel looks very impressive on interior items.

Manufacturers

There is a huge selection of such materials on the market now, but before choosing it is better to decide on the manufacturer and read reviews about the product - this will help save time, money and nerves.

"Novbytkhim"

Produces enamel in various containers (from 1 to 20 liters). The coating is characterized by good painting properties, low consumption, good hiding power. The price for 3 liters is 700-800 rubles, for 20 liters - about 5500 rubles. Among the disadvantages, consumers note a pungent smell of paint, which makes it suitable only for outdoor work. To dilute the paint, the manufacturer recommends not white spirit, but a solvent of its own brand.

"Prestige"

"Prestige" is an enterprise for the production of soil from the Rostov region. For small work, it is sold in a small package of 200 g, but there are also packages of 1.9 kg worth about 400 rubles. The price is relatively small, and the reviews are mostly positive and are associated with the good anti-corrosion properties of the enamel. It hides existing rust well and prevents new rust stains from appearing. But, like many domestic enamels, it has a rather pungent smell.

"Lacra"

Produces primer-enamel in 0.8 kg and 1.7 kg packages. There is a small color palette. Low cost enamel for rust, which dries quickly and forms a coating of pleasant color.

Application

Before applying the primer-enamel, the surface to be treated must be prepared: clean it from the peeling previous coating, remove large and loose foci of rust. After that, you should re-clean the product from dust and dirt and, if necessary, degrease with white spirit. All this will ensure the best adhesion of the primer-enamel, facilitate the work and provide a high-quality finish.

Important! If the previous coating was nitro-based, then before applying 3-in-1 enamel it must be carefully removed with a special remover. Otherwise, swelling and exfoliation of the soil-enamel will occur on the surface.

Before direct use, the composition must be thoroughly mixed. Depending on the complexity and size of the surface to be treated, enamel can be applied using a brush, roller or spray gun. Small parts can be dipped.

Before covering the entire structure, it is advisable to try to paint a small area.to assess the correct color and quality of the finish coat.

Average material consumption per m2 - 80-120 ml for one layer. The number of layers applied depends on the degree of protection and the desired effect and ranges from 1 to 4. Each manufacturer indicates on the packaging recommendations for the consumption of primer and the method of application to the product.

The drying time of the primer-enamel is short: to the “tack-free” stage - about 30 minutes, and the time of complete drying is about 4 hours. In order for the product to be resistant to salt, water and oil, it is necessary to withstand it before use for several days (up to 7 days).

In the open air, the process of drying the soil-enamel and removing the specific odor is faster than indoors. Therefore, manufacturers recommend painting the base outdoors or in a ventilated area.

One-component rustproofing primer is a fake for people who do not know where to find and how to use the correct information about paints and varnishes. And since they are in the majority, such "miracle paints" are very popular among the population. However, no specialist who understands coloring will even look at shelves with these paints.
