However, when choosing the optimal model for a child, you also need to take into account the size of the furniture. Today we will consider what dimensions of the demanded bunk beds are the most popular.

Features, pros and cons

Bunk beds have been popular for many years. Such pieces of furniture are purchased not only to accommodate two children. Often, in these beds, the lower "floor" is allocated not for a sleeping place, but for a corner for games, sports or relaxation - it all depends on the specific modification of a particular model, and there are a lot of them.

    Such models are presented for children of various age groups. In stores there are designs of various sizes. It will be possible to find a suitable copy for both a preschooler and a teenager.

    The main advantages of these sought-after products are:

    • saving free space in the nursery, especially when it comes to a multifunctional model with a sofa, wardrobe and table;
    • multifunctionality (on such furniture you can not only sleep, but also store various things in it or do lessons / play);
    • these beds are presented in a huge assortment, in which you can find a model of any style and color;
    • do not be afraid of the upper floors of two-level beds - for younger children they sell products in which the second tier is equipped with a side that prevents the baby from falling;
    • such options for cribs are usually produced as highly durable and as reliable as possible, so you can safely talk about their safety;
    • a properly selected two-level bed can decorate the interior;
    • you can put a bed with two tiers in any part of the room;
    • in furniture salons you can find two-level beds equipped with drawers and dressers for storing various things, thanks to which you can refuse to place another closet in the room.

    Bunk beds have not only advantages, but also the following disadvantages:

    • as a rule, such models are more expensive than ordinary beds, especially if they are supplemented with multifunctional mechanisms;
    • in a room with low ceilings, sleeping on the second tier may not be very convenient, since air exchange in such an environment becomes scarce;
    • if a child is afraid of heights, then such furniture will not suit him at all;
    • overly active children can fall from the second tier, and even the side bumpers may not be able to save here, so parents will have to always be on the lookout.

    There are several modifications of bunk beds for children, which differ from the other in structure and design.

    • Models with 2 sections. These designs have a removable top tier, so the bed can be easily converted into a traditional sleeping area.
    • Bunk models for one child. In another way, these beds are called "attic". In them, a sleeping place is present only on top, and the lower "floor" is usually reserved for other elements, for example, a sofa, a table, a play area or a large chest of drawers.
    • With gaming functionality. In these embodiments, the lower floor may be a small play area. The second tier, as in the case of the loft bed, is set aside under the bed for sleeping.Often, these types of children's furniture are made in the form of toy cars, airplanes, spaceships and other similar objects.
    • Transformers. These models are especially popular today, despite the high cost. In such variants, the upper berth can either be removed or rotated at a different angle. Transformers are especially useful in a small area.
    • Modular. These types of bunk beds have additions in the form of spacious wardrobes, drawers or a chest of drawers.
    • With non-removable tiers. This furniture cannot be separated as it is a single structure.
    • Semi-tier. In these types of bunk beds, the first tier can be pushed under the second, thereby freeing up a lot of free space. Such furniture is not suitable for hyperactive children, because it can fail under the influence of constant jumping.

    Materials (edit)

    Modern beds for children, consisting of two tiers, are made from different materials. It is very important to pay attention to this parameter when choosing the ideal model.

    Popular beds made of natural wood are rightfully recognized as the most reliable and safe. A solid bed is an ideal solution, since there are no chemical compounds and any hazardous substances in such a natural material. Sleeping on such furniture is absolutely safe, even if the weather is hot outside the window.

    Wooden structures boast excellent strength characteristics and long service life. Often, such furniture is passed down from generation to generation, because it remains relevant even after many years. The wooden bunk beds have a wonderful design. They will easily fit into both classic and modern interiors.

    However, it must be borne in mind that a two-level bed made of natural wood will not be cheap, especially if it is equipped with various functional details, for example, a transforming mechanism. In addition, wood as a material requires regular maintenance - it needs to be treated with protective compounds, otherwise it will lose its original appearance, dry out and even start to rot under certain conditions.

    It should also be taken into account that buying solid wood furniture may not be the most profitable decision, since the child will still grow out of it, and it will have to be changed to another model, so it is better to choose something cheaper or turn to inexpensive types of wood such as pine or birch.

    MDF beds are much cheaper. This material is less demanding as it does not need to be maintained. Such furniture can be made in any form and style. MDF is a safe material that does not harm human health.

    In search of the cheapest option, you can stay on a chipboard bed. This material is affordable, but it is often used to make simpler furniture of nondescript design. Moreover, the particle board contains dangerous formaldehydes that can harm the health of the child. That is why you should not buy such products for children. Of course, you can find an option from chipboard of class E-1, however, in stores there are too many products that are made of ordinary chipboard, but are sold under the guise of structures made of material of class E-1.

    There are metal products, but they are heavy, cold and not very attractive in design. Despite their durability and wear resistance, such models are rarely bought.

    What size bed should I choose?

    When choosing a suitable two-level bed, you should pay attention not only to its design and material of manufacture, but also to the size. Such furniture should be appropriate for the height and age of the young user.

    Based on the parameters of the bed, a suitable mattress is selected for it.

    • For babies from birth to 3 years old, standard models with a size of 119x64 cm are ideal.If the child is small, then such furniture will be relevant even when they reach 5 years old.
    • For children aged 3 to 5 years, it is advisable to buy bunk beds with dimensions (standard) 141x71 cm, 160x70 cm or 196 cm.
    • Products with dimensions of 70 by 180 cm -91x201 cm are suitable for children from 7 to 13 years old. Such furniture is close to adult single-bed options.
    • For teenagers, modern manufacturers produce two-level beds with such dimensional parameters - 180x90 cm, 190x90 cm.

    When deciding on the specific size of a children's bunk bed, it is recommended to give preference to models that are slightly larger. Thus, the child will sleep on them as comfortably as possible, and the furniture does not have to be changed too quickly. Do not take very small options, as the young user will not be very comfortable in such conditions and will grow out of them faster.

    The size of the selected furniture should be influenced by the area of the room. For this reason, before going to a furniture store, you should carefully measure the room in which you plan to place the product.

    A bunk bed should not interfere with the passage, and access to it should be free, otherwise it will be inconvenient to use it.

    Today in stores you can order furniture according to the individual sizes of the buyer. Such models are more expensive, but you do not have to worry that the child will be uncomfortable sleeping on them.
