Tips for choosing and installing armored door locks

To protect their homes, their owners have resorted to different methods to increase the level of protection of the lock on the door. Often for this, an armored plate is installed on the door lock, which is intended for the entrance doors in the apartment. It restricts access to the lock slot and also increases the time it takes for an attacker to break into. According to statistics, doors with such linings reliably protect the premises, and robbers prefer not to collide with them.

Any armor plate is a metal plate, which is made of metal alloy and is able to protect the lock mechanism from:

• hacking;
• drilling;
• knocking out.

This element consists of two plates that are attached to the outer and inner sides of the lock mechanism. The thickness of such a plate can be up to 4-5 mm. The features of this design include the following.

• The body is made of strong steel, which makes it impossible to drill or penetrate into the hole with a drill. It can also withstand heavy loads.
• The outer plate protects the lock mechanism from mechanical stress and is made of hardened metal.
• The swivel washer closes the key slot and prevents the pick from reaching the connector.
• The circlip prevents the swivel washer from moving.
• The support flange assists in the correct mounting of the door trim.
• With the help of screws, the entire structure is pulled together, which excludes the possibility of penetration of foreign objects to the lock.

Currently, these types of armor plates are distinguished.

1. Mortise. Fully fits into the door leaf and fits in a pocket. It is reliable and durable.
2. Invoice. The kit comes with plates that are tightened with screws and placed on different sides of the lock.
3. Semi-cut. Part of the lining protrudes from the door leaf.
4. Magnetic. It is able to completely close the turnkey connector and is set in motion using a special device. This is the most reliable type of protection and does not provide an opportunity to open the lock using master keys.

It is also possible to note the code overlays, which do not make it possible to gain access to the well on a turnkey basis, and the shutter is removed when the required combination is entered. Therefore, the robber, before gaining access to the lock mechanism, must cope with such overlays. The overhead design is the simplest; during installation, it can be installed quickly and independently.

It is recommended to choose overlays depending on the material of manufacture of the slats and the thickness of the door. Mortise refers to more reliable devices, and during installation it is required to drill holes for bolts. In some cases, this reduces the strength of the canvas itself, and therefore is a minus of this device. Installation also requires certain tools and skills. A semi-cut lining is considered reliable, since it is recessed into the canvas, so it is difficult to pull it out from there.

The linings for the cylinder lock differ in functionality, and some models may only have decorative functions. If there is a strong metal door at the entrance, into which reliable locks are mounted, then it is recommended to choose the appropriate overlays. Mortise is considered the most reliable, but magnetic can also be used.Protection must be provided at a high level, and therefore it is recommended to choose these devices depending on the features of installation on the door.

The purchase is made from trusted manufacturers with a good reputation. Also, when choosing a product, you need to check the operation of the mechanism and buy it depending on the type of locking device, door thickness and other parameters. The plates of the armored linings are attached in special ways. In this case, you need to follow the rules that will allow you to reliably close the lock mechanism and prevent you from getting to it from the outside. Fastening is usually done with bolts that go through the entire structure and connect the plates located on different sides of the lock. All this is pulled together with nuts, and then closed with protective caps.

You can also use ordinary screws for fastening, but this method of installation is less reliable. In any case, it is necessary to involve specialists in the work who know how to correctly install the armor plates and choose the method of their fastening according to the type of device.
