Doors in the style of "Provence" will be an ideal option both for an apartment and for the interior of a private house. The light colors of the door leaf will bring calmness, serenity, lightness into the home and will allow you to escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern metropolis.

Peculiarities

The main characteristic that is appropriate to apply to door designs in the style of French country or Provence is modesty. Designers are sure that Provence doors will be the best solution to create coziness in a living room: dim, like faded shades, an aging effect, a simple ornament. All this creates the illusion that a dynasty lives here, inheriting the house from generation to generation.

Another feature of Provence style doors is that natural wood is used in their production, without the addition of metal and plastic.

Recently, more and more often natural wood in door structures is being replaced with eco-veneer or MDF. There are no significant differences between these materials. Eco-veneer is environmentally friendly for people and pets.

Models

Provence doors are distinguished by light pastel colors (cream, pale green, lilac, beige, blue, white, yellow, gray, terracotta), thanks to which they always look good in the interior. It happens that in order to embody a design idea in the interior of a room, it is necessary to add several bright spots, in this case the color of the door structure can be quite saturated, with floral painting.

Provence models can be recognized by several features:

  1. Often the canvas is decorated with decorative carvings.
  2. There can be 2-3 niches in the door.
  3. The door block is treated with patina to create an aging and fading effect.
  4. Doors can be with transparent or frosted glass inserts (with windows at the top), decorated with folk art ornaments.
  5. Door handles are made of bronze, gilded or dark metal, decorated with fancy elements.

There are interior and exterior doors:

Interroom

The predominant color for interior door panels is white. It harmonizes well with any interior. Doors of a white shade allow you to bring the lightness inherent in the style into the room, create cross-color combinations with windows, and accentuate the interior in dark tones.

Along with this, the simplicity of the lines, the unusual decorated handles made the interior doors in the Provencal style one of the most popular.

Double doors can be seen at the entrance to halls or large living rooms. The simple design, carved patterns on the doors in beige shades look catchy and attract admiring glances from others.

Sliding double doors are suitable for pantries where large items are planned to be stored. To accommodate a large load, you must simultaneously push both doors.

Such door structures perform the function of a gate, their finish is deliberately rough - wide boards, not thoroughly painted over.

Input

There are many varieties of Provence style exterior doors. Their installation in the context of the exterior is thought out as much as possible: carefully calibrated rectangular openings, beautiful stone arches, interesting plants, door leaves with the illusion of aging, with or without glass windows, with forged elements.

Antique doors are small in size, they are constructed from boards of different widths. The paint seemed to have worn off from time to time, in some places knots fell out of the wood, the bottom of the canvas was shabby. The handle is often shaped like a ring. If you refine the local area with lush greenery and flowing vines, this place will acquire an atmosphere of mystery.

A Provence style door can be decorated very brightly, creating the illusion that it is a false door or just a beautiful drawing. To create a sense of unity with nature, it is better to choose shades close to natural: burgundy, green, blue. They will remind you of flowers, grass and the sea.

Slatted doors are ideal for hot areas. Thanks to the horizontally installed rails, free air circulation can take place.

Colors and style combinations

All colors represented by the Provence style initially have a symbolic meaning and convey the peculiarity of a particular area. So, yellow symbolizes olive oil, blue - water, red - wine, purple - lavender, orange - house, blue - sky, and green - olives.

The Provence style has historical intersections with the Empire style. These two directions will perfectly complement and decorate each other. The pompous Empire style with its arches, solemn columns and large paintings will "calm down" the faded shades of Provence style doors a little, and their golden patina will serve as a tribute to the luxurious Empire style.

Interior use

When choosing a door design, one must take into account the room in which it will be located.

For living room and bedroom

For a room where you plan to relax and receive guests, it is better to choose single or double door models, swing, sliding or folding options. Glass and forged elements will be a big advantage.

When choosing a door design for a bedroom, you should first of all pay attention to its color. The door, like all other elements of the interior of this room, should embody calm and serenity. Therefore, it is worth choosing a canvas in pastel lilac colors, white, pale yellow. For a children's bedroom, gray-blue shades are suitable.

Ideas for the kitchen

Traditionally, white door panels are used for the kitchen area. It is preferable that the texture of the wood appears through the paint. You can decorate the doors with dried bouquets of wildflowers, useful herbs, greenery, fir Christmas wreaths, and floral ornaments.

How to “age” a door with your own hands?

Before starting the process, it is necessary to clean the door leaf from the existing coating.

Then choose the most suitable for yourself a way of processing a door in order to give the desired appearance:

  1. Chemical (ammonia is used).
  2. Mechanical (a metal brush is used, which makes it possible to give the surface of a wooden canvas a rougher and more textured look).
  3. Thermal (a soldering iron is used).

Having achieved the desired texture, it is necessary to recreate defects on the door: cobwebs, wormholes, scratches. To do this, you can use an awl, drill, nails. The frequency and type of defects depend solely on the taste and imagination of the owner.

After applying defects, you need to go over the surface of the canvas with a metal brush, cover it with a stain, let it dry, and wash it off with a damp sponge. Reapply the stain (base coat). Allow to absorb within 24 hours.

Apply colored or colorless shellac primer and wax (using a hard scrubber).

The last step: polishing the surface of the door leaf with a soft cloth.

How to paint?

It is not difficult to arrange a door leaf, the main thing is to carefully follow all the necessary steps:

  1. Before painting, prime the door leaf with white paint.
  2. Apply the selected tone. Allow to dry.
  3. Rub with wax and paint again with white paint. Allow to dry.
  4. Polish the door with a soft cloth. You can use sandpaper to create a roughened effect.
  5. Apply a water-based varnish to the door leaf.

In a similar way, you can paint not only interior doors, but also sliding wardrobes. Upon completion of the paintwork, you can perform decoupage with napkins, lace, textiles, wallpaper, which will allow even inexperienced artists to add exclusive decor elements to the interior of the room.
