The furniture hinge is a semi-mechanical structure used to mount a kitchen cabinet. It is responsible for fixing the sash to the facade and ensures comfortable opening and closing of the door at the required angle. Every year, new models appear on the market, complemented by non-standard mechanisms and design solutions. The hinges are divided according to their purpose, type of construction and method of attachment.
The most widespread are the following models.
Overhead, semi-overhead
These hinges allow the sash to swing freely 90 degrees. They hold the doors in place and prevent them from skewing. Overhead loop fastened to the side surface of the inner wall of the kitchen cabinet.
Half overhead mechanisms optimal, when a pair of leaves are fixed to one rack at once, opening in two different directions - in this case, each door slightly opens only a part of the end.
Half-attachment devices are easy to distinguish visually by their pronounced bend.
Corner, radius
These models are optimal for fixing massive doors of furniture blocks, they are often installed in kitchen modules. Depending on the place of fixation, the corner hinges may differ in their configuration.
Most often they are fixed at an angle of 30 to 180 degrees.
Inverse, grand piano
Indispensable in the manufacture of furniture with flaps turned 180 degrees. Such hinges hold the door well, forming a straight line with the rack. Piano mechanism provides two perforated strips fixed movably relative to each other.
Despite the fact that some furniture manufacturers consider such hinges to be outdated, nevertheless, they can often be found on modern swing facades.
Card
This loop can become stylish and elegant accessory, as it is often used to decorate vintage furniture or retro-style headsets. As well as the piano mount, this mechanism includes a pair of plates fixed to each other by a hinge.
Depending on the design solution, card loops can have a variety of sizes.
Secretarium, mezzanine
Externally, this type of hinge has a great similarity to the invoice, it is attached to the doors of suspended kitchen modules. A characteristic distinguishing feature of such fasteners is the presence of springs in combination with a closer.
Such hinges can provide the most comfortable door closing and opening.
Adit, lombard
The adit hinge is considered one of the most popular fasteners allows you to ensure silent opening of sashes of any shape and size. Lombard hinges are mainly used when installing folding kitchen tables in the case when you need to open the door 180 degrees.
Pendulum, carousel, heel
Pendulum and carousel mechanisms open the doors in any direction. The heels are usually mounted at the top or bottom of the furniture box and are fixed to the surface by means of a rod mechanism. The principle of operation of this device is similar to the operation of hinges.
The model is convenient for the installation of light sashes of small kitchen cabinets, it is also used for glass kitchen facades.
Materials (edit)
When buying fittings for kitchen furniture, you must first of all pay special attention to the durability of the materials used and their compliance with all safety requirements. Loops can be made from different metals, each of which has its own performance characteristics in terms of resistance to wear and the ability to withstand a certain load.
The most demanded hinges are made made of brass or stainless steel. Such models are almost impossible to disable or break. The material resists oxidation, therefore, corrosion does not appear on it. The fasteners are considered to be durable and reliable.
It is better not to install products made of ordinary steel in the kitchen, since this material is prone to rust. - in conditions of high humidity, such a solution will be impractical.
Selection Tips
Any kitchen fittings helps to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the interior; it can distract attention. However, its practicality is of no less importance. All parts must be durable, of high quality and have a long service life. To choose the right model that combines aesthetics, ergonomics and functionality, it is worth paying attention to such points as:
- the quality of the hinges, the characteristics of the metal from which they are made;
- design features of the installation;
- the location of the flaps and the way of plowing.
It is important to take into account the type of material from which the kitchen unit itself is made. Different types of fasteners are used for wood products and granular wood panels, glass facades need a special approach. So, for doors made of solid wood, large strong hinges are needed, for furniture made of chipboard or MDF, lightweight compact models can be purchased.
Well-made fittings must be coated anticorrosive compound... Only in this case will it not deteriorate in difficult operating conditions.
At the preparatory stage it is important to decide on the number of elements that you need to work... As a rule, 2 fasteners are installed in kitchen modules - above and below. If the door is longer than a meter or is made of heavy material, you need to add another hinge in the middle.
For thicker and cumbersome shutters, you will need one loop for every 5 kg of weight.
Installation methods
Before starting the installation, it is necessary to measure 10-15 cm from the upper and lower inner corners of the sash. If the distance is less, then over time the hardware will begin to come out of the grooves. Then you should make the markup. On average, the distance from the edge of the cabinet door to the middle of the hinge is approximately 2.2 cm.
Work at the first stage of hinge mounting is reduced to the formation of holes for fixing the "cup"... The sash should be placed on a flat horizontal surface, and then using a cutter or drill to form the holes. They should not be too deep, it is enough to limit yourself to a length of 1.2 cm. Screws are inserted and screwed into the formed hole.
Important: for the installation of the connecting elements, the drill must be positioned strictly vertically. Even a minimal inclination will lead to a deterioration in the quality of fixing the element on the facade surface.
The counter bar on the side of the facade is placed in a vertical position, having previously completed the markings so that all the details exactly coincide in height.
The accuracy of the details must be one hundred percent.
