Special designs help to protect the room from moisture, dust and extraneous sounds. A seal for interior doors ensures quiet operation, since the main sheet does not hit the box.

Peculiarities

Typically, seals are not installed on all doors in a dwelling.

The following rooms most often need additional noise, moisture and dust protection:

  • children's;
  • kitchen;
  • bathroom;
  • toilet.

Special door designs reliably trap unpleasant odors and suppress noise that can interfere with rest or sleep.

A high-quality insulating material for door leaves should have the following characteristics:

  • high tightness;
  • do not interfere with the smooth running of the door leaf;
  • good resistance to temperature extremes and humidity parameters;
  • be environmentally friendly;
  • not pose a threat to the health of people and animals;
  • have a high rate of elasticity, quickly restore shape.

All modern insulating materials meet the stated requirements, reliably performing their functions.

For interior doors, a softer and more elastic door seal is used than for entrance structures. Otherwise, the door will be difficult to close, which will ultimately reduce its service life.

Some interior doors already have insulating elements, but sometimes it may be necessary to install the seal yourself.

To select the optimal insulation for an interior door, you need to know the types that can be used inside residential premises.

The following types of seals are popular:

  1. Self-adhesive. This type is easy to install, even a person without experience in installing door insulation can handle it. It is a tape that has an adhesive base, removing which you can easily attach the seal to the door leaf or frame.
  2. Magnetic. They can only be used on metal doors. They are reliable, easy to mount and dismantle, installation does not require special skills and tools. Most often they are installed in bathrooms and toilets, as they have the highest airtightness.

The purpose of door insulation is also of great importance.

According to this parameter, seals are divided into the following types:

  1. Contour. Installed along the perimeter of the door frame. Allows you to achieve high levels of sound insulation. In addition, the door leaf with a contour seal does not knock on the frame when opening and closing.
  2. Threshold. Installation is carried out in a special recess. The groove is located at the bottom of the door frame. One end of this type of insulation ends with a blind end, and the opposite end with a special device that activates the groove seal when the door is opened.
  3. Fireproof. It is used for temporary (depending on the model and manufacturer) insulation of the room in which the fire occurred. Most often it is made of foam materials, which expand when the temperature rises, reliably sealing the room in which the fire has arisen. This type of insulation reliably protects other rooms from smoke, fire and toxic combustion products.

The choice of the required type of interior sealant depends, first of all, on the required protection characteristics and the material from which the door leaf is made.

Some types of insulation are not suitable for wood products, others for plastic, metal, or glass.

Materials (edit)

Interior door seals can be made from various raw materials.

Most often you can find on sale insulation made of the following materials: rubber (polyurethane), silicone, foam rubber, brush tape.

  • Rubber models - the most popular, they were among the first to appear on the market. They are made from oil- and acid-resistant raw materials. These seals are affordable, durable, and crack resistant.

High moisture and air tightness allows the use of rubber insulating material in any premises, in interior and entrance structures.

  • Silicone seal often used as insulation for glass interior doors. Thanks to special additives that increase the wear resistance of the initial raw materials, this type of door gaskets has a long service life, but does not have high protection against aggressive detergents and acids.
  • Foam seal - the most budgetary of the existing ones. Its main disadvantage is its very short service life. Due to its porous texture under the influence of the environment, it begins to crumble and soon becomes unusable. With intensive use, it quickly loses its elasticity, is punctured, as a result of which its protective properties are sharply reduced.
  • Brush seal It is used for sliding doors and allows you to protect the space of the room from dust, moisture and noise due to the fleecy surface. It is very easy to install as it has an adhesive base.

Thus, in order to choose the right seal that will last a long time, you should give preference to models made of rubber or silicone.

Installation tips

Installation of a seal on interior doors can be carried out in several ways, which depend on the type of insulation. The most popular way is to install self-adhesive models.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. The surface is being prepared. For this, a degreaser and a soft cloth are used. It is very important to completely remove dust and small debris, otherwise the bonding quality will be extremely poor.
  2. The protective film is carefully removed from the seal and the product is attached to the desired place. It is better to glue the self-adhesive seal in small sections, gradually removing the paper protection as necessary.

In order for the sound and moisture insulation to be higher, both sides should be glued, as well as the lower and upper parts of the door frame.

To install the insulation of an interior door using the "groove" technology, no special skills are required either, and only a sharp construction or kitchen knife is required from the tools. Particular attention is paid to carefully trimming the seal in the corners. After completing the installation, the excess insulating material is cut off with a knife.

Some models of seals do not have special fasteners and are fixed to the door leaf with silicone glue.

It is very important not to stretch the silicone or rubber insulation material when installing, as this will reduce the product's performance and the level of protection.

In apartments and private houses, it is often necessary to seal the connection of the box and the door leaf in order to protect the room from noise, moisture and foreign odors. This task is easily handled by modern insulating materials that are easy to install, do an excellent job with the tasks set and are distinguished by a long service life. A wide assortment allows you to choose the best seal option for any door and any room.
