Features of making a wooden door

Wood is a versatile natural material that is used in many areas of modern life. One of the areas of application of wood is the manufacture of doors. Constructions made of this substance are distinguished by their durability and sophistication. You can make such a product yourself, but it is important to first clarify the specifics of making a wooden door.

A wooden door is a canvas made of boards or timber. It is quite possible to make such a structure with your own hands. Before you start making a door leaf, you should stock up on several tools:

• Saw. With its help, the boards are trimmed. The best option would be a circular circular saw, which will allow you to get high-quality and even cuts. If this is not the case, then you can use a hand tool with fine teeth.
• Grinder and several types of grinding wheels. Technically, it is possible to polish homemade products by hand, but this is long and ineffective.
• Drills and drills of various sizes. This will allow you to quickly and efficiently form holes of the desired size. In some cases, you may need a screwdriver and self-tapping screws.

• Milling machine. If the door is made at home, then the manual version will suit you.
• Wood. The type and size of material depends on the specific characteristics of the door you plan to receive. In some cases, standard boards are used, and sometimes thick bars.
• Joiner's glue. This substance is used to join individual planks into a solid and solid system.

These are the most common options for door leaves. They differ in the use of solid boards, which are interconnected in one structure. Step-by-step instructions for making doors from a solid array involves the implementation of such sequential operations:

• Initially, boards are cut to individual sizes. They should be slightly longer than the doorway. This is necessary in order to be able to correct the dimensions more accurately in the future.
• After that, all boards are carefully sanded from all sides. In this case, special attention should be paid to the ends, which should be flat.

• When all is well, all the elements are glued together. To do this, they are located on a flat sheet of chipboard. Each end is greased with glue and joins with the previous one. To fix the entire shield, use clamps, with which it is clamped.
• After the glue dries, the decorative processing of the door leaf is started. It is carefully sanded. If you want to create a unique door, then it can be supplemented with carvings or decorative overlays.
• The final stage is the insert of the lock and the installation of the hinges.

There is a simpler construction of this type. It is also made from several boards, but they are connected by transverse bars. In this case, each element is screwed to the transverse strips, which will provide a reliable structure. So that such a door does not warp, another bar is attached obliquely between the horizontal bars.

A feature of such doors is that they are assembled from individual boards or bars, and the middle is filled with thinner versions of them, glass or plywood. The technology of manufacturing a paneled door involves the following operations:

• First of all, you need to cut out blanks for the frame from boards or timber. Such a structure consists of a rectangular canvas, inside which there are only partitions, and everything else is filled with other components.
• When the workpieces are ready, they are also carefully sanded and leveled. Perform such operations only with dry wood in a dry and warm room. Otherwise, the tree can pick up moisture and then change shape.

• Next, grooves are cut out on each board. Please note that some of the elements have a spike, and the other have depressions. This allows a tongue-and-groove connection to be formed. Similarly, a rectangular frame is formed from the boards. It is important to carefully fit all the elements here. At this stage, it is also important to cut out the slots for the lock.
• After the frame is made, its inner part is filled with thinner boards or glass. To do this, grooves are formed on the support boards with the help of a router for these elements and they are also carefully adjusted. If glass is used, then you need to cut it to fit the size of the inner opening. It is fixed with wooden glazing beads from the same tree.
• The procedure ends with the assembly of the entire canvas and its gluing. For this, special glue is also used. Boards are also pulled together in a special vice. When the mixture has dried, the canvas is sanded and glasses are installed (if necessary), and then the entire surface is varnished.

Paneled doors are complex structures that require a lot of manual work. It is not always possible to make such a product the first time, since this requires skill and experience in working with various types of wood. These types of door leaves are often used as interior elements of the interior.

Another option for wood doors is panel board products. These are the cheapest and simplest designs. To get a similar product, knock down a wooden frame from a bar. After that, its inner part is filled with paper or thin strips of wood. Outwardly, all this is sheathed with MDF or chipboard sheets.

The technical characteristics of a wooden door depend not only on the production technology, but also on the materials used in this process. Today, many different substances are used for such purposes:

1. Natural array. It is represented by boards and bars, from which the frame and all other elements of the door leaf are then formed.
2. Decoration Materials. This includes all products that are obtained from wood waste (veneer, chipboard, etc.). For example, doors are covered with plywood, which reduces the weight of the entire door leaf.
3. Decorative items. Very often, door leaves are decorated with a variety of inserts. They are made in most cases from various types of glass or plastic.

But when constructing doors made of wood, special attention should be paid to the choice of wood species. Today, several types of wood are used for such purposes:

• Oak. Differs in strength and durability, and its structure has noble shades. But with a constant change in humidity, oak doors lose their ability to retain heat. Therefore, it is advisable to use them only as interroom.
• Ash. The breed also has quality indicators of strength, which are even slightly higher than that of oak. The color shades of this breed can be varied - from pinkish to brown.

• Larch. This type of wood is not afraid of mold, and also does not give in to rotting. There are several types of boards on the market from various types of this wood. One of the disadvantages of larch products is their high weight.They are often used in a rustic style in a log house.
• Pine. The door from it is the warmest, since this wood is distinguished by high rates of thermal insulation. But pine structures are not durable and therefore are among the cheapest. To improve this figure, many manufacturers can cover the canvases with oak or other hardwood veneers.
• Red tree. This name hides several types of wood, such as meranti, nyato, teak, etc. Doors made of this material have good strength, since the wood has a high fiber density. The disadvantage of such products is their high price, which is affordable only for a certain category of the population.

Many novice carpenters use wet boards to make doors or perform these operations in a wet room. In this case, the wood gains moisture and begins to increase in size, which will render the door leaf itself unusable in the future. Therefore, before starting work, you need be sure to dry the boards thoroughlybut without using powerful hair dryers.

If the door begins to swell after its installation, then this situation can be corrected in several ways:

1. First of all, you need to create a normal temperature and minimum humidity in the room. After some time, the boards may dry out and "return" to their place.
2. If the structure is not restored, then you should try to reinstall or adjust the hinges so that the canvas easily fits into the box.
3. The most common option is to reshape it with a planer. For this, the place where the canvas does not close is slightly suspended. Sometimes you can perform such an operation not only with the door, but also with the box itself. But it is desirable to remove the minimum layer, since the wood can dry out over time and cracks form in these places.
4. Forced drying of the door leaf. But this operation needs to be performed only at low temperatures and for a long time. If this is done abruptly, then cracks will simply appear on the boards and the door will become unusable.

Wood is not a unique material and has many disadvantages. To get rid of them, wooden doors are processed in various ways during manufacture:

1. Painting. The most common finish. Both ordinary enamels and clear varnishes are used here. To prevent rotting, the material can be additionally impregnated with special compounds. The technology for their application is quite simple and requires only a uniform distribution of the mixture over the door surface. To do this, use ordinary rollers, brushes or spray guns.
2. Decorating with decorative panels... Today it is possible to change the design of the door leaf with veneer. The sheets of this product are made from various types of wood. This allows you to give cheap structures a more noble look. Sheets can be applied both to the canvas itself and to cashing.
3. Warming... A similar approach is used if the doors are placed directly on the street. The insulated structure is able to withstand frost, while maintaining its original characteristics. Insulation is applied to the door leaf from above. For this, a frame of wooden slats is constructed on its surface. After that, mineral wool, foam or other similar material is placed inside. It is attached with liquid nails. Externally, the system is sheathed with boards or metal, which form an integral structure.

Crevices in a wooden door are formed in different places, which can lead to the formation of drafts. If these are cracks, then you can try to repair them using various compounds:

1. Grouting. They are used only for thin layers. In large cracks, they will crumble over time.
2. Sealant. One of the most optimal options, which is suitable for sealing all types of cracks and crevices. They need to be filled in sequentially in order to enable each layer to grab.

If gaps appear between the frame and the door itself, then this can be corrected with the help of seals. They are positioned on one of these elements in such a way that a seal is formed when closed.

An unusual sliding door made of a solid piece of solid wood looks very original and is in good harmony with the "aged" wooden floor, but this idea is unlikely to be repeated often.

Dark brown doors in the same style - two-leaf and single-leaf, dilute the white color of the interior, the table and floor vases "help" them.

The door with a supposedly raw surface and glass inserts is specially selected for the general style of the room and therefore looks very organic.
