Aluminum interior doors
Doors between rooms are one of the most important elements of interior design space. Quite high requirements for strength and durability are imposed on them. One of the most popular options is considered to be aluminum interior doors, which meet all the parameters.
Advantages and disadvantages
The popularity of aluminum doors for interior openings is due to their high performance characteristics. Their advantages include:
- Strength. In this parameter, aluminum doors are superior to both plastic and wooden models. They do not deform with changes in temperature and humidity, withstand mechanical stress.
- Anti-corrosion. Unlike steel structures, aluminum door frames do not rust.
- Good soundproofing.
- Environmental Safety. Aluminum is non-toxic and absolutely harmless to humans and the environment.
- Easy maintenance. The structures can be cleaned with a damp cloth, washed with various detergents.
- Diversity. Modern manufacturers offer a wide range of design solutions.
In addition, such a door can serve for several decades without losing its appearance.
As for the cons, here they are most often noted:
- High cost.
- The need for individual measurements in each individual case, and assembly of the structure on site.
- Considerable weight.
In the latter case, plastic and wooden doors are taken for comparison. But when compared with other metal structures, then aluminum ones will, on the contrary, be lighter and easier to install.
Design features
For the manufacture of modern door structures, an aluminum profile is used, painted by means of:
- Anodizing (durable layer that protects against corrosion) finished with aniline coating.
- Powder spraying, increasing impact resistance and resistance to negative environmental influences.
In this case, the profile itself can be "warm" or "cold", that is, ordinary or insulated (with a thermal insert).
All interior aluminum structures are divided into several groups according to the opening system. They are:
Swinging
It is in the greatest demand, as it is perfect for any interior. With such a system, the doors can be single or double-leaf, open inward, outward, or in both directions at once.
Sliding
They allow you to save room space and are a good option for small spaces.
Foldable
It occupies a middle position between swing and sliding. When opening them, they do not require as much space as for swing doors, but at the same time they still move forward, taking up a certain amount of space.
Moreover, each of them has its own mounting features, which must be taken into account when choosing and installing.
Finishing materials
In addition to the opening method, aluminum doors can be equipped with canvases of various materials. The most common are glass and wood.
Wooden canvases for aluminum structures can be made from softwood or hardwood.
Door constructions with glass give a particularly wide scope for imagination and are presented in a wide variety of design solutions. Used for them:
- triplex;
- matolux;
- strained glass.
All three glass options have increased strength. Glass can be ordinary, frosted, stained glass.
At the same time, glass canvases or even small inserts help to visually expand the room space and open up access to light.
Such doors are widely used not only in apartments, but in public buildings (children's and medical institutions). Perfect for rooms with high humidity (kitchens, bathrooms, bathrooms, swimming pools).
Other options for filling the aluminum profile in the interior structure include fiberboard, chipboard and MDF. Doors with them look no worse than models with wooden canvases, but at the same time they are much cheaper.
Aluminum interior doors fit best into interiors created in style directions:
- high tech;
- loft;
- minimalism.
However, designs with glass or stained glass inserts will be an excellent option for classic, Gothic, antique or Byzantine styles.
Selection rules
In order to choose the right interior doors made of aluminum, experts advise taking into account:
- opening method (depends on the size of the room);
- compliance with the general design of the rooms.
It is important to pay attention to:
- the presence of high-quality fittings, which plays an important role in the practicality and durability of the structure;
- absence of scratches, cracks and other defects on the profile or door leaf;
- quality of staining (paint should not flake off, have roughness or drips);
- the tightness of all elements to each other and the quality of fastening.
In addition, each product must have a certificate of conformity.
Installation of aluminum doors
In general, the installation of aluminum doors is similar to a similar process for structures made from any other material, but it also has its own nuances. Features are associated with the weight of the door and the need for its reliable fastening in the opening.
Installation is carried out in several stages:
- Preparation. It includes dismantling the old door and installing a new frame. In this case, the box is temporarily fixed with wooden wedges, after which, if necessary, the frame is aligned vertically and horizontally.
- Holes for dowels are drilled in the box and the wall of the opening. For reliable fastening, the distance between the holes should not exceed 20 cm.Their diameter is about 1 cm.
- After additional checking and alignment, the bolts themselves are screwed in, and the sashes are hung on the hinges. At this stage, it is important to test the operation of the door (smoothness of opening - closing, handles, locks).
- Finally, the space between the aluminum frame and the opening is foamed and plastered.
When installing a sliding door, it should be borne in mind that they need space for the sashes. It is more convenient to install such doors on brick or concrete walls.
