How to choose and install interior door hardware?

The best and most reliable door is not capable of fulfilling its functions if low-quality fittings are used. As a last resort, these functions will be performed, but badly and not for long. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the correct selection and competent installation of auxiliary elements.

Furniture for interior doors is represented by a wide variety of products, but in any case, it must correspond to the canvas itself in terms of durability and aesthetic characteristics. This combination of properties allows, along with the effective performance of basic functions, to decorate the room visually.

A typical set of door hardware includes:

• lock;

• travel stops;

• closers;

• latches;

• pens;

• loops.

Even if the door cannot be locked, there is no door closer installed on it, a handle is definitely required. Without this element, even the simplest design cannot be fully used. Push-type handles are often placed on the doors separating rooms. As their name implies, the passage is opened by pressing the handle.

The swivel version was named knob, which looks like:

To open the door, turn the knob. On the reverse side there is a button or a keyhole. This allows you to block the door from the inside, if suddenly the need arises. But one-piece hinges have their own serious advantage - they are universal in design, they are equally easily mounted on doors with left and right opening.

The difference in the loop design must also be taken into account. The card system is a pair of interconnected plates that work together and are mounted on a single axis. The pin (aka screw-in) version is formed by a pair of parts, supplemented with threaded pins. For most interior doors, 3 pin hinges are enough. If you need to install a hidden type of hinges, you will need to contact a professional - you will not be able to do everything right with your own hands.

Locks on interior doors are usually not as perfect as on entrance doors. The only exception is constipation in offices where they work with documents, store money, weapons, and so on.Important: only mortise locks are installed in interior doors, since overhead options are too noticeable. Most often, models with clamps are used to help keep the canvas closed. The shut-off element can be of various designs.

The mechanical type of construction only determines the maximum opening of the web. Magnetic devices can also keep the door open. In addition to these systems, closers play an important role. Until recently, closers were installed on interior doors only in offices. But now it is already clear that they are very useful in private homes as well.

Knowing the types of fittings for interior doors, you can choose a suitable design. And this should be given no less attention than the selection of the door leaf. By installing a frankly cheap exterior door handle made of elite wood, you can create an absurd feeling. But the installation of expensive fittings (the same handles) on the doors of the budget category is quite justified. This solution allows you to make the atmosphere more elegant.

The selection of loops should take into account:

• the level of sound insulation;

• keeping warm;

• the safety of the canvas (bad loops can deform it).

A universal type of loops must be chosen if there are no special wishes for their capabilities. You can be sure that they will work with confidence in most situations. In any case, the quality of the fastening must be assessed. To do this, open the loop, and swing the halves along the axis. If the backlash is more than 0.1 cm, the purchase of products is impractical.

In terms of material, steel hinges are slightly inferior to those made of brass. The problem is the poor quality of fastening and serious backlash. Plating is most often done in bronze and gold, this product allows you to create a luxurious atmosphere with minimal cost. But, in addition to the hinges, you also need to pay attention to the door handles. Most people prefer push-down options, which can be of two types - a bar and a ball. The choice between them is strictly individual.

If you need a lock of the simplest type, you must choose a device without a latch. In this case, the doors are fixed by using a steel gasket separating the door and the platband. In some cases, the gasket is equipped with a ball. Even with active use, this design works very stably. Locks and latches are adjustable with a handle included in the kit.

Having chosen a suitable design, you need to pay attention to the installation of accessories. If this work is done illiterately, even flawless components can cause many problems. Moreover, careless movement of the tool often destroys the web. Both the hinges and the overhead strips of the door handles should be placed flush without leaving the slightest gap. It is this kind of work that is considered ideal, but it takes a lot of effort.

Another requirement: the seat for hinges and locks must be made exactly the same size as the structure to be installed. Side clearances are inadmissible. The maximum deviation is 0.05 - 0.1 cm. To prepare the landing positions, an electric milling cutter is most often used. But you can replace such an apparatus with hand tools, among which a chisel and a hammer are of particular importance.

The hinges are screwed in 20-30 cm from the lower and upper edges of the door. Self-tapping screws must hold them. Important: it is necessary to mount the hinges on the doors installed in the same room in the same way. More precisely, the distance between them must match. It is required to trace the contour of the loop with a scalpel.

It should be borne in mind that this tool makes good cuts only along the fibers. If it is necessary to trim the tree across, it will be possible to pierce the veneer by a maximum of 0.5 mm. The chisel manages to increase the depth of the excavation by 2-3 mm. This tool will allow you to carefully select a tree from the canvas. Important: if the structure is made of MDF, manual processing is excessively laborious - it is more correct to use a milling machine.

Having prepared the landing nest, you can put loops there. The carrier stand is tried on to the canvas, this will help to more accurately determine the position of the hinges. It is most convenient to try on the rack, not the whole box. There is no need to be afraid to disassemble it if the product is sold already assembled. But installing the hinges is still quite simple - it is much more difficult to work with the handles.

• latch hole.
