Choosing accessories for book doors

The most pressing issue of modern small-sized apartments is the saving of usable space in living spaces. The use of folding interior door structures as an alternative to traditional swing door panels has a number of advantages that allow you to save rooms from unnecessary "dead zones". This is the only way to arrange the furniture more comfortably. Convenient operation of door structures from several sectional elements can be provided by fittings specially designed for folding models, which differ from ordinary ones.

It is not recommended to install a folding type of door structures on wide openings, just as you should not do this in rooms with high traffic and where the door will often open. This is due to the not too hardy fixing fittings. In addition, a variety of component parts are present here in large quantities, which, as a result, can affect the greater likelihood of breakdown during operation. It is best to install such doors on an interior opening in a dressing room or in a bedroom. There is another option - you can install a folding door as a partition for zoning a room.

The folding type of all doors is arranged in approximately the same way, but nevertheless, similar designs can be divided into two separate subspecies:

• "Accordions";
• "Books".

The structure of the accordion door is made up of separate panels-sections 15 centimeters wide. They are connected by a hinged profile type, sometimes attached to end hinges. The already assembled door is attached only to one guide from above, so then it will be possible to move them thanks to the rollers along. The outer panel is attached to the inside of the jamb, other sections will fold like an accordion at the moment of opening.

But the "book" design consists mainly of separate movable flaps. When the door is installed in a large opening, there are many more sections. When moving the folding door leaves, more than one upper rail will be used. Here the bottom rail will serve as a support for the oversized structures with parts that are connected by loops.

Folding doors are usually supplied with a set of fittings upon purchase, which is required for installation. The number of items included in the kit will depend on the number of panels.

This kit mainly contains:

• a set of sections;
• top guide made of aluminum or steel material;
• carriage slider (the number will depend on the manufacturer);
• rollers;
• hinges or articulated connecting profile;
• an adjusting key used in the assembly of the structure;
• additional set of fastening accessories, which is determined by the manufacturer.

There are models that are equipped with a locking mechanism with a lower guide profile. There is usually no need for such a profile, since the accordion door is made of a very light material - plastic. Manufacturers complete expensive models of MDF doors with a lower rail. At the same time, the door sections are filled with glass inserts, stained-glass windows for decoration, or some special design ideas and delights.

The fragility and fragility of parts, the fasteners themselves, a plastic rail, a missing metal frame on the panels, the connection of door structures with a hinge profile instead of using an end hinge - all this affects the product, therefore such a door turns out to be of little use for long-term or frequent use.

Different models are made of plastic, aluminum material, ordinary wood or MDF. It happens that the design also includes asymmetric sashes that open in different directions. Consequently, the entire set of fittings can be very different.

A set of 2-leaf doors may include:

• ball-bearing carriages for the driven leaf, which has 2 levels of freedom;
• pivot axes from below and from above;
• guide rail support top and bottom for the main sash;
• hinge hinges with fasteners.

It should be noted that almost all existing parts of the door structure mechanism, such as the supporting carriage, hinge hinges or the clamping type of the device for the sash, are made adjustable. This allows for a secure fit for a long time. The high cost of the hardware is considered to be the only exceptional drawback. The higher the quality of all the components, the more expensive the cost of the structure as a whole will be.

If you install an additional type of hardware, you can add an extra charm to any folding door.

Varieties of additional fittings:

• end hinges of unusual shapes and colors;
• comfortable beautiful handles;
• inlaid overlays designed for folding sectional panels.

In addition, additional functionality of folding door structures can be provided by using hinges with a door closer. These mechanisms will add ease of opening and folding door leaves. The mechanism has an adjustable closing speed with the function of locking the leaves when they are in the open position.
