Chains on the door: varieties and methods of installation

Protecting your home from intruders with strong doors and secure locks is extremely important. However, from time to time the door will still have to be opened. At this moment, the correctness of the choice of the chain, the literacy of its installation come to the fore.

Door chains were once used very widely, in almost every home. Now, after long oblivion, they are experiencing a real revival. These products solve the most important task: they allow you to talk with people who are outside the door, while preventing intruders from breaking into the room. Sometimes they can't reach the peephole, so they have to look outside to see the visitors.

Even in the last century, such chains were installed in the apartments of all houses that were not serviced by doormen. Having opened the doorway, you can not only calmly communicate with people standing on the staircase, but also transmit (receive) various correspondence, small things. The same functions are successfully implemented by modern chains. Their design has not undergone significant changes. The only exceptions are options with careful design study. The classic type of chain is a ring chain, in this version one edge is soldered to a fastener screwed onto the door frame.

In addition, the link chain uses a hook that is inserted into the groove of a special part placed on the canvas. In the loop configuration, the usual metal chain is replaced by a loop, the end of which is equipped with a ball. It is not recommended to use such an achievement of modern engineers. Defending against attack, even if you defend yourself very stubbornly, is unlikely to last until the end of the call to the police. It is not known, someone will have time to call there before the bandits burst inside?

First of all, contrary to popular belief, the widespread use of peepholes and intercoms does not allow the choice of chains to be taken lightly. Having bought the first product that comes across, you can then suffer for a long time from the consequences of such a decision. If the main material of the structure is strong steel, then this guarantees sufficient protection. The specialists were able to ensure the opening of the door leaf no longer by 5 cm, as it was in the past, but by 15 cm (this also needs to be clarified). Be sure to pay attention to the design characteristics of the chains.

The security mechanism can be installed on both wooden and metal doors. It is important to take into account that when installing the chain on a steel structure, you will have to select the color of the metal. Otherwise, an unpleasant sensation will arise. It is easier with wooden partitions. They can be complemented with fittings of any shade without the slightest doubt.

The chain will avoid full opening of the door, but leaves it ajar. The emergence of a gap between the canvas and the frame will make it possible for potential attackers to stick their hand, relieve the constipation, and then easily get inside. Therefore, from the very beginning, you need to decide how to do the installation of the chain yourself or with the help of professionals correctly. When marking the place where it will be placed, they immediately find out whether it will be safe enough. Here you need to pay attention to the direction of the door opening.

When the canvas goes inside the house when opening, it is best to fasten the chain to the frame. Fastening to the platband is not permitted! The reciprocal structure is attached to the canvas.At the same time, they check that in the event of opening the door, only such a gap appears that does not allow you to stick your hand. Consider how the chain will be removed when the doors are tightly locked.

If you install it on a door that opens outward, then the arrangement of the elements changes to the opposite value. The chain itself is placed on the canvas, and the reciprocal element is placed on the frame.

To put a chain on an iron door you need to prepare in addition to the model itself:

• fasteners;
• screws or self-tapping screws 30 cm in length;
• screwdriver;
• construction pencil (or ordinary marker).

Start by attaching the main unit to the jambs. Here you will need a pencil that will allow you to mark the installation points for screws or self-tapping screws. A runner rail is attached to the sheet of the metal partition - exactly opposite the installed part. At this moment, a point is marked on the canvas where the part will be placed. It must be screwed on with care, otherwise the finish will be damaged.

Now you need to close the door and evaluate how everything works. The screws that are used to mount chains on steel doors must be made of strong metal. Another indispensable requirement for them is a large thickness.

It is undesirable to choose a chain with a length of 34 cm - this product is more decorative than providing real security. Ten centimeters of clearance is already a reasonable limit. You need to contact only trusted suppliers and trade organizations. A metal door that opens to the inside of the room can be equipped with both collar and hinge chains. If the canvas goes outward when opening, only cap options are allowed.

It is best when the door chain is ordered with the door, because then the product is easier to fix. If you want to create an original setting, order the production of chains made in the format of locks, keys and other decorative details. Vintage framing is achieved through carving or artificial aging. It is recommended to use those designs that have quality certificates and warranty certificates.
