Features of pneumatic door closers
A door closer is a device that ensures smooth door closing. Convenient in that you do not need to close the doors behind you, the closers themselves will do everything in the best possible way.
Closer types
According to the principle of operation, they are divided into several types.
- Hydraulic. As a rule, they are installed on rarely used gates and doors.
- Electrical. They require constant power supply, which is not always convenient, they are sold in a set with locks.
- Pneumatic. Recommended for installation on entrance doors and gates of gates, often used for passage.
This article provides a brief description of the pneumatic door closer, its functions, advantages and disadvantages. The pneumatic door closer consists of a piston with a spring and a hollow chamber inside.
When closing and opening doors, air is transferred from one part to another.
Advantages and disadvantages
Pneumatic door closers have following advantages:
- operation does not depend on weather conditions;
- do not require additional efforts;
- easy installation;
- a long period of open state does not carry the risk of failure of the closer;
- withstand heavy loads, therefore they can be used for heavy gates.
The main disadvantages are the unaesthetic appearance and the importance of correct installation. Most often, malfunctions in the operation of a pneumatic closer arise due to improper installation. In connection with this circumstance, it is recommended to entrust the installation of it to trusted specialists. And also the cost of the device is also a disadvantage. But the durability of its use fully pays for the price.
Closers perform the following functions:
- regulate the speed of closing doors;
- attract the door in the event of a loose slam;
- fix, if necessary, the door in the open position.
At the place of installation, closers are:
- overhead - mounted on sashes, frames or door hinges;
- floor - installed before the doors are installed;
- hidden.
Closers should be chosen based on the following parameters:
- compliance with the weight of the door (wicket, gate);
- frost resistance (relevant for street mechanisms);
- functioning resource;
- warranty service.
Mounting the device
If you decide to install the pneumatic door closer yourself, follow the guidelines below.
- Choose a device that matches the weight and dimensions of your door, buy it.
- Choose the type of installation.
- Referring to the installation diagram, mark the fastening points.
- Drill holes of the required depth in the right places of the jamb and door leaf.
- Attach the mechanism with self-tapping screws.
- Connect the arm parts with the supplied screw.
- Adjust the length of the lever: its position must be perpendicular to the closed door.
Next, you should adjust the closer mechanism, in particular, the speed and power of closing the door. For this, the device has two adjusting screws.
Mechanism repair
In the event of a major breakdown of the mechanism, it is more profitable to purchase a new one than to bother with the repair of the deteriorated one. These devices usually do not provide replacement parts. But if the malfunction is minor, maybe you can fix it yourself.
Hull damage may occur in winter. In this situation, first estimate the extent of the breakdown. If the crack is small, seal it with sealant.If the damage is large, repair is impossible, only replacement will help. Installation and maintenance of the closer does not require a great experience of the master.
If you operate the mechanism in accordance with the conditions written in the instructions, it will function as you configured it.
Advice
It is better to fix the door closer on the street door from the inside. This will protect it from the negative effects of natural factors. If such an installation is not possible, purchase reinforced frost-resistant models and mount in a place convenient for you.
If the door opens "towards itself", the device is mounted in the upper part of the sash from the side of the door tabs. If "from oneself", then the closer lever is attached to the sash, and the mechanism itself is attached to the jamb.
