The variety of chipboard sheets is pleasantly impressive. Currently, it will not be difficult to choose the best option for any task. This material can be used both for furniture and for wall or floor decoration. Depending on the purpose, the plates differ in parameters. They affect the strength, quality of the working area, the ability to withstand certain loads. In this article, we will consider everything about chipboard sizes.

What are the dimensions?

As a rule, chipboard sheets on sale are found in their entirety. If you need a small piece of the slab, you still have to purchase the whole one. The required area of the canvas can be found only in large industries dealing with wood and materials from it. No matter what chipboard plates are used for, it is important to know their dimensions, or rather the length, width and thickness. This will greatly simplify the work with this material. Typically, the sheets are 183 to 568 centimeters long and 122 to 250 centimeters wide.

The variety of sizes allows you to better select the sheets so that they fit together. Among the sizes, slabs of 244 by 183 cm, 262 by 183 cm, 275 by 183 cm are considered universal, which are convenient to transport and, if necessary, are easy to saw. The dimensions of the slabs are usually determined by the state standard. If the sheet complies with this standard, then it can be considered high quality.

For some manufacturers, the dimensions of the chipboard may differ. Depending on the size, the sheets can weigh from 40 to 70 kg.

Length

Standard chipboard sheets, both sanded and unsanded, have a length of 180 centimeters or more. At the same time, it can be increased in steps of 10 millimeters. As for laminated boards, their lengths vary from 183 cm to 568 cm. The error of this parameter, according to the standard, does not exceed 5 mm.

The most popular are chipboard sheets with a length of 275 cm, 262 cm, 244 cm. It should be clarified that each manufacturer produces sheets of certain parameters. Thus, Swisspan prefers sheets with a length of 244 and 275 cm, and Egger - 280 cm. For slabs produced by Kronospan Russia, the length is strictly 280 and 262 cm.

Width

The width of particle boards can vary from 120 to 183 centimeters. In this case, deviations from the standard cannot exceed 5 millimeters. Sheets with a maximum indicator of 183 cm are in the greatest demand among consumers. This width is also preferred by the Swisspan manufacturer. At Egger, the slab format assumes only one standard value - 207 cm, while Kronospan Russia uses both of these widths.

Thickness

The thickness of the chipboard is from 1 to 50 millimeters. In this case, the step is only one millimeter. The maximum demand is observed for slabs with a thickness of 16 mm. The Swisspan trademark produces chipboards with a thickness of 10 mm, 16 mm, 18 mm, 22 mm and 25 mm, and the manufacturer Egger, in addition to the usual thickness, has 19 mm boards. Kronospan Russia, in addition to the above, produces sheets with a thickness of 8 mm, 12 mm and 28 mm.

Plain chipboard sheets, as a rule, have a thickness of 1 mm. For laminated sheets, it starts from 3 mm. A thickness of 40 mm or more is necessary for products where increased reliability is important, but they are not used very often.

How to choose the size?

By the parameters of the chipboard sheet, you can determine its characteristics, as well as for what purposes it is better to use it. One of the most important parameters is the thickness of the slab. It is this parameter that is responsible for the strength of the material. It is also important to take it into account during operation and transportation. Usually, the thicker the sheet, the greater the load it can withstand. Therefore, slabs of maximum thickness should be used for products that will be subject to increased stress. However, it must be borne in mind that the flexibility of the sheets will decrease. This parameter is better for thin sheets with a thickness of no more than 10 mm. Moreover, this can be seen even at low loads.

As for slabs with a thickness of 25 mm and more, their flexibility will be low. As a result, under heavy loads, a crack will appear on such a slab, it will bend or even break. And also the hardness of the sheets depends on the thickness. The greater the thickness, the higher the hardness of the chipboard will be.

If you need to make a partition, an overhead panel or elements of furniture items where there will be no heavy loads, then a thin sheet with a thickness of 6 mm or more is best suited for this. And also slabs within 8 mm and 10 mm are suitable for these purposes. Slabs with a thickness of 16 mm, 17 mm and 18 mm are excellent substrates for the flooring. They are suitable for creating cabinet furniture or wardrobes. Plates from 20 mm to 26 mm are used for the kitchen, in particular for the manufacture of countertops (24 mm), massive furniture set (26 mm).

Thick chipboard from 34 mm to 50 mm is necessary for those products that will be heavily loaded. Such sheets can be used for kitchen tables, shelves in shelves, industrial flooring, tables for various units and devices.

It should be borne in mind that a large slab will require that the supporting structures be reinforced. After all, they will have to withstand both the weight of the plate and what will fit on it.

Payment

Before purchasing chipboards, you should calculate the required amount. This will significantly simplify the workflow and the final cost of the product. Having made all the necessary calculations in advance, you can save yourself from problems with missing sheets or remaining surplus. Before determining the required number of sheets, it is worthwhile to clearly understand what they will be used for.

For example, if chipboard will be used for wall cladding, then it is important to measure parameters such as height and width. Then you need to calculate the area value. Thus, if the size of the base is 2.5 by 5 meters, then the area will be 12.5 square meters. m. Taking into account that the size of the sheet will be 275 by 183 cm, its area will be five square meters. It turns out that you need three panels, or rather 2.5.

When covering the floor, you will need to draw up a diagram. To do this, measure the length and width of the horizontal surface. Then a drawing plan is made, where the received data is transferred. Further, according to the possible parameters of the chipboard, it is necessary to adjust the material. This method is quite complicated, but it allows you to take into account many nuances, including unnecessary trimming.

For such a responsible job as the manufacture of pieces of furniture, certain skills are required. If the item has its own parameters, then it is necessary to draw up a drawing. After that, you should determine the dimensions of each of the parts, taking into account where it will be located. All these data then need to be entered into the cutting program, which will help to find out exactly how many chipboard sheets are needed.

It is worth clarifying that the calculation of the number of chipboards can be carried out independently according to the sawing scheme or using a special program. For the first method, it will take a lot of hours to find the most suitable combination of cutting lines. The best place to start is by drawing a cutting plan. In this case, the lines of the parts should be as close to each other as possible, which will significantly reduce material consumption. Next, you need to place all the parts in the drawing within the rectangle. Then you can select the optimal sheet size.

Of course, if the imagination is not very good or there are problems with geometry, then it is worth making mockups of all the parts from paper. At the same time, it is important to respect the aspect ratio and adhere to a single scale. It is worth emphasizing that in this case it is very easy to place the figurines in such a way as to understand which slab will work best. The easiest way is to use the program, which itself will select the best cutting pattern. It will be enough to enter the number of parts and their shape into it. After that, a layout diagram will be presented on a sheet with certain parameters.

Quite often, such programs are used in building materials stores, where they cut chipboards to order.
