All about pallet boards
Currently, when carrying out installation work, manufacturing various furniture structures, creating wood pallets, and transporting goods, special pallet boards are used. This material can be made from different types of wood. Today we will talk about the main features of pallet boards.
Peculiarities
Pallets are a rigid and durable wooden structure with a solid base, which is designed for the transportation and storage of various products. They are made only from treated and dried wood.
The pallet board is relatively compact and rather strong, therefore it is actively used to strengthen cargo. It is also used to create all kinds of other sturdy products, including furniture.

Pallet boards can be made from various types of wood.
Pine
This material is most often taken to create a pallet. Pine has a relatively low cost, its processing does not require special technologies and high costs. In finished form, such wood has a high level of strength and durability. Pine pallet has a fairly wide range of colors... In addition, this rock has a pronounced unusual structure, which makes it possible to provide good thermal insulation. The material can be easily processed using a milling machine, drilling or turning equipment. Such wood dries quickly, which simplifies and speeds up the production process.
Larch
This type of wood is considered the hardest. There are practically no small knots on its surface, so it is easy to handle... At the same time, products made from larch have a relatively high cost. They are also characterized by a special resinousness, which protects the wood, but at the same time interferes with the preparation of the material.
Spruce
Such a coniferous base for creating a pallet has a light color and soft texture. Spruce, like the previous version, has a high level of resinousness.... Resin protects the tree, but compared to larch, spruce will rot much faster anyway.
Birch
Birch pallets have a low cost. They are able to easily withstand significant loads, high levels of humidity, shock impacts... In addition, birch is easy to process, but it is inferior in strength to other types of wood.
Oak
This pallet material is considered to be the strongest, most reliable and durable. Oak bases easily withstand heavy loads, excessive moisture levels, and lend themselves well to processing.
Maple
Such a tree is rarely used for making pallets. This breed is distinguished by an interesting and beautiful natural cross-sectional pattern. It boasts excellent strength and moisture resistance characteristics. Maple materials are often used in the manufacture of indoor walls, furniture in unusual designs.
To create load-bearing structures, it is recommended to purchase various coniferous wood species. To form small-sized products, you can use deciduous varieties.
To create temporary structures, it is permissible to take a base of aspen, poplar, linden or alder.But they should not be used for the manufacture of reliable and durable products, since they are rather soft, the level of their strength is much lower compared to coniferous wood.
There are some important requirements for the quality of the wood that will be used to make the pallet. The moisture content of the wood should not exceed 25%. You should take only those sawn timber that belongs to the 1-3 grade.
Also remember that the quality and durability of future pallets will largely depend on the quality of material processing and on the presence of defects on its surface. On a wooden base, there should be no mold and mildew, and traces of insects, cracks from the end parts, rot are not allowed.
Any wood that is used for the manufacture of such boards is thoroughly pre-processed. It includes the application of special antiseptic compounds and chemical protective substances to the wood surface.
Also in the course of processing, the wood is sent to special chambers, where it is heat dried. At the final stage of preparation, the material is additionally coated with paint and protective varnish.
Features of production
To make the initial workpiece, a log is taken and cut across with special tools... On the machine, the material is sawn in such a way that small blocks are obtained.
After that, the resulting bars are again sawn across into small pieces and lengthwise into boards. Later, further cutting of wooden boards, sorting by length is performed.
All irregularities and other defects from the surface of the cut parts are removed. The base is connected to checkers and floorings. The structure is firmly fixed with staples. The ends of these fasteners are slightly bent after installation.
Next, the corners of the workpiece are carefully processed, the corresponding marking is applied. So that the resulting wood structures do not deteriorate, processing is performed in several separate stages, the material is covered with special protective compounds. They prevent not only the appearance of rot, mold, but also damage by insects. The finished pallets are unloaded in stacks with a maximum height of six meters.

Depending on the purpose for which such wooden containers will be used, they can be produced in different sizes. Reusable types most often have dimensions of 800x1200 and 1000x1200 millimeters. The largest are considered models of the American standard, their dimensions are 1200x1200... One cube contains 7-8 pieces of such boards.

These wooden containers can be used for various purposes. So, they are often taken for loading and unloading operations, because such products make it possible to make strong and reliable reinforcements for loads of various weights and sizes. The use of such auxiliary structures allows you to optimize the space for storing and transporting goods. For easier and more convenient picking up by loaders, containers are equipped with several special approaches.
Nowadays, pallets are increasingly being used to create various furniture designs for business offices and cafes in a non-standard style. Sometimes such furniture is placed in ordinary living quarters.
If you need to use ready-made wooden pallet boards, then first they must be properly disassembled. To do this, the heads of the nails are gradually deepened from the outside, they do this so that the rounded ends on the back of the structure can gently move away from the surface - and they could be straightened. After that, the fasteners can be easily knocked out and unscrewed.
