All about the sanding board
Currently, a huge amount of sawn timber is used at various construction sites. There are many varieties of these wooden structures, the most popular option being sanded planks. They are often used for both interior and exterior decoration of premises. Today we will talk about the most significant features of such wooden materials and what species they can be made of.
Peculiarities
Sanded boards undergo a mandatory thorough processing on special equipment. Such lumber can be edged and planed. The first option is also divided into two hotel types: models with a sharp and blunt wane. In the first sample, one of the edges is the lateral part of a solid log. The second edge will be completely flat.
In the second type, one of the edges is not a sawn-off side of a whole log, the second will also be flat. Such varieties are rarely used for organizing interior decoration, since they undergo only partial grinding and other types of treatments. Sometimes a special clean-cut type is distinguished. For these wood products, all sides will be evenly cut and processed. It is these boards that are most often used for the manufacture of furniture structures, as well as in the formation of interior decoration.
Planed lumber is made in such a way that a smooth, sanded surface is as smooth and thoroughly dried as possible. If we compare such boards with the previous version, it can be noted that they have a much more aesthetic appearance. Planed varieties are perfect for creating various decorative details, as well as for the production of furniture.
A dry sanded board must undergo additional treatment with special protective impregnations, which prevent the formation of rot and mold. Also, such compounds will protect wood from harmful rodents and insects.
Materials (edit)
Sanded planks can be made from a wide variety of wood types, but the most common are options made from the following types.
- Larch. Such wood has a high level of strength, so structures made from it can last as long as possible. In addition, this breed has an increased hardness index; it can easily withstand rather heavy loads. This species emits a large amount of resinous substances, they allow to protect larch from insects, rodents, as well as from all kinds of mechanical damage. This breed is easy to dry and handle, there are practically no irregularities and even the smallest knots on its surface. But at the same time, it should be remembered that sanded boards made of such wood have a rather high cost. These lumber are distinguished by a special beautiful appearance, light pleasant colors and a soft structure, therefore, it is often these boards that are taken to create pieces of furniture or to decorate the interior decoration of rooms.
- Oak. This breed can boast of maximum resistance to various mechanical damage and heavy loads. Oak materials are quite strong, durable and reliable. Such a tree can be easily dried in special chamber equipment. Oak products can easily tolerate excessive humidity.Even after a lot of time, it will be almost impossible to see scratches, cracks and deformations on oak boards.
- Pine. Such wood is strong, durable and resistant, and at the same time it has a relatively low price. Pine varieties can have a variety of interesting natural colors. They are distinguished by an unusual natural structure, which is why they are often used when creating decorative designs. Pine easily lends itself to even the deepest and most thorough processing, it does not require large costs.
It should be noted that pine boards will help to provide good sound insulation and thermal insulation inside the room.
- Birch. Polished birch boards easily withstand weight loads, high humidity, shock, mechanical damage, and at the same time they are the most budgetary option. Birch lends itself well to chamber drying and processing on special equipment. This wood species can boast of a uniform, beautiful color; it is this material that is most often used to create various decorative items.
- Aspen. This breed has a rather high density, but compared to other types, it is still much less strong and durable. In addition, aspen products do not have good resistance to mechanical shock loads and high humidity. They absorb water, swell, after which strong deformations appear on the surface. But blanks from such a tree can be easily cut, dried in a chamber and processed.
- Maple. This breed is considered to be strong and resistant to mechanical, shock and high humidity loads. Maple has a beautiful appearance and a light pleasant color, therefore it is most often used to create decor, interior decoration, and for the manufacture of pieces of furniture.
- Cedar. Planks made from this rare wood are of considerable value. Such wood boasts excellent resistance to shock and mechanical stress, to excessive moisture, although the strength index of cedar is relatively low, so such boards are rarely used in the construction of durable building structures.
- Spruce. This coniferous tree species is particularly durable. Products made from them can serve for many years without breakdowns. Spruce emits a large amount of resin, it protects the wood from adverse external influences. Planks made of spruce have a soft texture and beautiful natural color, while compared to other types of cedar lumber, they have a rather low cost.
- Fir. For the manufacture of building boards, fir is rarely used, because it does not have sufficient strength and durability. But at the same time, products from this breed are distinguished by a beautiful external design. Most often, glued lumber is made from this wood in order to significantly increase its strength.
Also, sanded boards can be classified into several different categories depending on the type of wood from which they are made. Samples of the 1st and 2nd grade undergo the deepest and most thorough processing, drying and impregnation. They are considered an excellent option for finishing work. Edged products from 3, 4, 5 grades are more often purchased for the construction of economic summer cottages, since even in processed form they cannot boast of a high level of quality, there can be many flaws on their surface.
Dimensions (edit)
Today, a variety of types of sanded boards are produced, depending on the size. The most common models are with dimensions 200x20x3000, 20x100x3000, 100x20x3000, 150x20x3000, 50x200x6000. These samples can be used for both interior and exterior decoration of premises.
There are also models with other non-standard sizes.Dimensions should be taken into account before purchasing such lumber.
Applications
Sanded boards are widely used in various areas of construction. Often they are bought for decorating floor coverings. Such material should be processed as deeply as possible during the production process. These sawn timber must be made from Class I wood base. As a rule, coniferous options are taken.
Besides, models made from the most durable types of wood are used to create durable wall coverings. Walls made from such treated sawn timber will have excellent thermal and sound insulation parameters. They will be able to last as long as possible.
Sanded boards can be used in the construction of various building structures, including residential buildings, as well as in the creation of small outbuildings in the summer cottage, stairs, fences, roof bases. Boards made of more decorative types of wood (aspen, maple, birch) are mainly used for the manufacture of designer furniture, decorative interior products. Sometimes with the help of them they decorate the interior of rooms, make small partitions.
Sanded boards will also be a good option for making garden furniture, gazebos. But at the same time, it is necessary to use only those wooden products that have undergone the most careful processing and impregnation with protective compounds during manufacture, since lumber that is placed outdoors can quickly fail or simply lose its attractive appearance. Sometimes whole terraces are built from them.
Models made from first grade wood can be used to create reliable door and window structures. When forming temporary light utility structures and containers, such boards are extremely rarely purchased, because for these purposes it is better to buy ordinary unedged options, which have a much lower cost.
