Wooden moldings are used for repair and decoration of all types of premises. Its length is different, but the cross-sectional diameter will have the same value throughout the product. The length of the molding, as the name suggests, is measured in running meters.

There are several main varieties of these parts. Moldings can be carved or planed. The first is a wooden plank with patterns cut into it. Sliced exists in a wide variety of species.

  • Platband. It looks like a profiled strip, with the help of which frames of window openings and door frames are made. For the manufacture of platbands, high quality wood is used, processed in accordance with technical norms and standards. There are a variety of colors and textures on sale.
  • Skirting board. It is a strip that covers the gap between the flooring and the walls. To create skirting boards, conifers are usually used; their popularity is due to their high strength in combination with an affordable price. Such products have a decorative appearance, they are easy to install and have a long operating period.
  • Fillet. This version of molding is used to mask the gaps between walls and ceiling, and it is also widely used in furniture production. For the manufacture of fillets, only the most durable types of wood are used, the process itself is quite laborious and time-consuming.
  • Rail. It looks like a thin rectangular bar. Such elements are in demand in the manufacture of furniture and in construction and finishing works. For the production of slats, only high-quality wood is taken without chips, knots and other defects.

  • Lining. Thin boards, popular for external and internal cladding of wooden buildings. The products provide for a thorn-groove system, which allows for a tighter joining of parts to each other.

Materials (edit)

Moldings can be glued or made of solid wood.

The materials used for the production of moldings should not have any visible defects: knots, chips, cracks, as well as mold, rot and traces of pest damage.

Usually lumber is made from hardwood: pine, spruce, larch, as well as cedar, oak, beech or linden. It is desirable that the tree be harvested in the autumn-winter period, when the moisture content in its fibers is minimal.

Linden products are in great demand among buyers. They are distinguished by low thermal conductivity, so this molding can be used even at high temperatures: it will not get hot and will not damage the skin. Linden does not emit resin, it resists moisture perfectly, so the products made from it do not require special labor-intensive maintenance.

but the most widespread was pine molding. Its wood has high consumer characteristics, is resistant to decay, durability, especially with regular treatment with protective impregnations.

In recent years, spliced moldings made using splicing technology have become widespread. This method allows you to remove all knots, resin pockets and darkening from the surface, it is especially popular in the manufacture of baguette products. Manufacturers produce moldings painted in different colors or in natural form - for painting. A budget alternative to wood is veneered or laminated moldings made of chipboard, fiberboard and MDF.

Applications

Typically, wood molding is used in the repair and decoration of interiors. It can be installed in residential buildings and in production when creating frame facades. In the construction and decoration of houses, clapboard, platbands, baseboards, fillets, shelves, beams and terrace boards are usually used.

In the past, lining was used to sheathe vehicles, today it is in demand when facing houses and offices. In residential buildings and in summer cottages, preference is given to lining made of Angara pine, Siberian larch or cedar. The same material is popular for facing balconies and terraces.

Platbands and skirting boards are installed inside the house, they provide a finished look to the room. This type of molding goes well with any kind of finishing materials. Shaped moldings are indispensable in the manufacture of picture frames and mirrors - for this, a carved baguette is usually used.

Production technology

The production of moldings begins with the harvesting of wood of the required size. At this stage, the wood is carefully inspected for defects and sorted for further use. Part of the lumber is used for firewood, large billets are used for sawing timber, and small-diameter timber is used for wooden moldings.

The prepared wood is cut and sent for drying. Solid wood is dried up to 10-14%, spliced - up to 8-10%. The higher the moisture percentage, the cheaper the cost of the final material. At the final stage, molded materials are sanded, packaged and packaged.
