All about pine edged boards
In various areas of construction, all kinds of wooden materials are used. They are considered the most popular and most versatile option for installation work. Currently, a large variety of different wooden boards are produced, edged varieties are more often used. You should know what is the difference between such materials made from pine.
Advantages and disadvantages
All requirements for the quality and properties of pine edged boards can be found in GOST 8486-86. Such lumber has many benefits.
- Strength. This coniferous species has a relatively high strength index, the board can withstand heavy loads and impacts. Most often, such material is made from a special Angara pine.
- Low cost. Products made from pine will be affordable for any consumer.
- Resistant to decay. This property is found in pine due to its increased resin content, which protects the surface of the tree from such processes, as well as from harmful insects.
- Durability. Structures made from pine lumber can last as long as possible. Reliability and durability will increase if pine is treated with protective impregnations and varnish.
- Attractive appearance. Pine materials have a light, light color and an unusual natural pattern, so they are sometimes used to create furniture and facades. In addition, edged boards undergo more careful processing, they do not have edges with bark, which spoil the design.
Among the shortcomings, one can only highlight excessive causticity, as well as a relatively low resistance to moisture.
What are the types of boards?
Pine edged boards can vary in size. The most common are varieties with values of 50X150X6000, 25X100X6000, 30X200X6000, 40X150X6000, 50X100X6000 mm. And also samples of 50 x 150, 50X200 mm are produced. These types of boards can be classified into separate groups and depending on the type of pine. Each variety will differ in quality and value.
Top grade
This group of pine sawn timber is the highest quality and most reliable. The boards do not even have small knots, irregularities, cracks, scratches. For them, the presence of putrefactive formations is absolutely unacceptable.
1st grade
Such dry elements are the best option for creating a variety of structures. They have excellent strength, reliability, resistance and durability. The moisture content of the material varies between 20-23%. The presence of chips, scratches and other irregularities is not allowed on the surface of the lumber (but the presence of small and healthy knots is acceptable). And also there can be no traces of rot on it. All sides of the product must be absolutely flat, without damage. There may be cracks on the end parts, but their number should not be more than 25%.
Models related to the first grade are often used in the formation of rafter systems, frame structures and in finishing work.
2nd grade
Pine lumber can have knots on its surface (but not more than 2 per 1 running meter). And also the presence of wane is allowed, which can greatly spoil the appearance of the product. Resin clots, small traces of fungus may also be on the surface of grade 2 boards.
3,4,5 grades
Models belonging to this variety have the lowest cost. There can be a large number of various significant defects on their surface. But at the same time, the presence of rotten areas is not allowed. Boards may have higher moisture levels than previous options (wet materials are significantly inferior in strength and durability to dry products).
Applications
Today pine edged board has found wide application in assembly processes. It is used in the creation of floor and wall durable coatings, in the construction of facades, garden verandas.
Such a board will be a good option for the manufacture of various furniture products. It is sometimes used in roofing applications.
The highest grade materials are usually used in the automotive and shipbuilding industries, including ship masts and decks.
In some cases, such edged models are used to create luxury and high-quality furniture.
Boards 3,4,5 grades can be used for the manufacture of containers, temporary light structures, the formation of flooring.
