Antiseptic boards are edged materials that undergo special processing.

Peculiarities

The application of an antiseptic substance to the lumber makes the wood protected from the formation of mold, rotting processes and the harmful effects of insects. Boards are impregnated with an antiseptic exclusively in production conditions in accordance with the standards and regulations established by law.

When in contact with a special solution, the wood acquires a special reddish tint. After this operation, the lumber becomes resistant to destruction for at least 30 years due to the formation of a three-level protection on it.

It makes no sense to treat boards with moisture above 30% with an antiseptic solution, since it will not saturate the wood. The lumber must be dry, its moisture content must be less than 30%.

There are several types of antiseptics: water-based, oil-based, organic solvent-based. Oil solutions are the most preferred, as they do not wash out over time, have a high level of protection and do not require periodic renewal. However, the law provides otherwise.

Regulatory Requirements

Regulatory requirements for industrial processing of sawn timber with an antiseptic are prescribed in the text of GOST 10950-2013.

This document says that for antiseptic treatment of lumber, it is necessary to use aqueous solutions of an antiseptic. However, mechanical processing (planing, sawing, etc.) is always carried out before chemical processing.

This document describes the periods of antiseptic treatment. Their differences are due to the class of a particular climatic zone in which antiseptic treatment is carried out.

And also the quality of the antiseptic agent is controlled by calculating the coefficient of its retention in lumber. The retention of the protective substance on the planed surface should be at least 120 grams per meter, non-planed - at least 200 g / m.

This regulation also sets out a way to determine whether wood has been treated with an antiseptic solution or not.

A special indicator for this test is zircon alizarin lacquer. When this substance is applied to an antiseptic material, the contact point becomes acid-yellow for several minutes.

If the wood is not processed, a red spot appears temporarily at the point of contact with the zircon-alizarin lacquer.

For the preparation of antiseptic solutions, it is necessary to use exclusively river or tap water that is not contaminated with chemical impurities and industrial waste from enterprises.

The concentration of the protective substance is controlled by density with a densimeter and is regulated in accordance with the established standards.

Dimensions (edit)

The standard dimensions for antiseptic boards on a sawmill are the same as for untreated sawn timber.

Most often, you can find a board with dimensions of 50x100x6000 mm.

At the same time, it can be cut into the necessary pieces in advance before processing, if the customer so desires.

Application

Throughout the history of mankind, wood remains one of the most important materials in construction. It is environmentally friendly, does not harm health and looks aesthetically pleasing. Moreover, it can be given any shape. but the use of untreated wood outdoors is extremely difficult due to its almost zero resistance to weather conditions and biological damage. Then antiseptic lumber will come to the rescue.

Boards treated with an antiseptic solution are used where contact with moisture is unavoidable.

  • The roof is made of wood. This material is perfect for sleds, rafters and crate. Mold cannot form on antiseptic boards, which destroys the entire structure.
  • Ground-contacting structure. Antiseptic-impregnated boards are used to create floor joists and lathing the subfloor of a house in front of the foundation or basement. They can also be used to create outdoor scenes, to cover floors in a low gazebo, bathhouse and other similar structures.
  • Entrance doors and external window frames. These elements of the building, of course, are exposed to the destructive effects of natural precipitation. This is why antiseptic planks are a great option to keep mildew and appearance from deteriorating. In addition, the use of antiseptic materials is an excellent solution to protect against various insects that can climb into the windows.

In addition to cut lumber, there are also processed beams that can be used as material for outdoor structures such as gazebos or baths.

An antiseptic will eliminate the need for spending on additional annual treatment with varnish or paint.

When working with such material, it is worth remembering the safety precautions:

  • when working with wood impregnated with an antiseptic, you must use a respirator, goggles and gloves;
  • after work, you need to thoroughly wash your hands and exposed skin with soap;
  • cuttings must not be burned - toxic waste is generated during burning.
