Two-storey house with an attic: beautiful projects
An attic is an attic adapted for living quarters. Previously, the attic was used to store unnecessary things, but now they are trying to use any space more thoughtfully. For the first time, the French architect Francois Mansart proposed to rebuild the attic into an attic. Today, with the help of the attic, you can implement bold and interesting design solutions.
Peculiarities
Two-storey houses with an attic are a very popular layout option for a private house. The house with an attic has a presentable and luxurious appearance. In addition, the attic increases living space and makes use of the attic. And if you also design a basement floor with an attic, then the space will not only expand, but the house will be considered almost three-story. One of the advantages of this is that at a cost, such a structure will not reach a three-story building.
A standard 2-storey house with an attic assumes the following layout: on the first floor there are common rooms (kitchen, dining room, living room, corridor), and on the second there are bedrooms, children's and bathrooms.
The attic can be used as a recreation area or work place, as is usually the case with creative people.
For the construction of the attic, it is very important to use light materials so as not to overload the foundation of the house. Overloading the base may cause cracks. For the construction of walls, foam concrete or aerated concrete, porous ceramics, frame-panel panels are often used. These materials not only do not load the foundation, but also reduce construction time and costs.
It is possible to use several types of materials at once, for example, foam concrete and brick. Internal partitions are most often made of plasterboard.
The main advantages of building an attic are as follows:
- significantly increases free space;
- does not require large expenses;
- increases the thermal insulation of the lower floors of the house;
- looks presentable and fits into any style.
Unfortunately, there are also disadvantages:
- attic windows are more expensive than ordinary windows and require special installation;
- it is necessary to adhere to certain construction technologies and carefully select materials.
Projects
In order for the built house to be reliable and convenient, it is necessary to take into account all the features of the building at the design stage:
- If the attic is being completed to an existing house, then first of all it is necessary to strengthen the walls - this will prevent the destruction of the base.
- The attic height from floor to ceiling must be at least 2.5 m.
- The amount of space freed up depends on the type of roof. The sloped roof will add about 90% of the space, and the gable roof 67%. To achieve a 100% increase in area, the roof should be raised by at least 1.5 m.
- It is necessary to think over the location of windows, furniture, stairs, partitions.
- Do not forget about the peculiarities of the climate and soil.
Projects of a house connected to a garage are very popular. The advantage of this option is that in this case, in the absence of heating in the garage, it is still much warmer in it than if it was located separately. Besides. you can get to the garage directly from the house.
If the area of the house allows, you can build a terrace with an exit from the attic floor. A magnificent view will open from it; in warm weather, the terrace will serve as a place to relax.
If there is not enough space, you can limit yourself to a balcony or veranda.
Nowadays, foam concrete is used more and more often for the construction of attics. It is lighter and cheaper, while not inferior in performance to such classic materials as brick. Foam concrete has certain advantages:
- fire resistance;
- strength;
- resistance to adverse weather conditions;
- high degree of thermal insulation;
- reduction of time and effort during construction due to blocks of large sizes and their lightness.
Among the shortcomings, it is worth highlighting:
- the need for good waterproofing;
- masonry is carried out using a special technology;
- the need for a solid foundation;
- the need for additional thermal insulation.
Ready-made standard projects are popular. Such a building is usually characterized by the following dimensions:
- 6x6 m;
- 9x9 m;
- 10x10 m;
- 8x10 m.
For such small areas as 4x8 or 2x6 m, it is better to order a project so that the specialists properly dispose of the free space, which is already so small. In such a territory, it will be possible to make no more than 2 bedrooms.
The layout of a 9x9 house is considered classic in professional circles. With this layout, you can make optimal use of the free space. Basically, on the first floor there is a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom and a bedroom, and on the second floor there are either two bedrooms, or a bedroom, a bathroom and a study.
When buying a project, it is very important to pay attention to the presence of a communications layout, which should include:
- power supply - all sockets and wires must be distributed in their places;
- heating system - which batteries will be used and where they are located, how the house will be heated;
- water supply system;
- sewerage drainage system.
Besides, the project must also include information about the roof, its shape, slopes. This is very important, since the roof of the attic is erected differently than that of an ordinary house. Thermal insulation plays an important role, it is necessary to choose the right material and thickness of the insulation.
The truss system should be properly designed, which must withstand heavy loads, as well as adverse weather conditions.
Facade design tips
There are several interesting and common facade design options:
- Facade made of glass - ideal for country houses with beautiful landscapes. The transparent facade solves the problem of low light in the room.
- Completion of a terrace or balcony - these designs always look advantageous, especially if they are supplemented with flowers in pots. During the warmer months, they can be used for recreation. The most important thing in such a project is the observance of proportionality.
- Combination of finishing materials - combinations of various materials solve design problems. It is necessary to take into account the fact that massive and dark materials are suitable for the lower floors, and lighter and lighter ones for the upper ones.
The most common material combinations are:
- decorative stone and plaster;
- stone (brick) and wood panels;
- brick and natural wood;
- natural stone and rounded logs.
For cladding the facade with wood, most likely, you will have to use special equipment. Roof and wall joints require high-quality sealing.
For the attic, you can choose custom-shaped windows so that they stand out better and match the overall design. Plants and flowers are often used for decoration. Of the common climbing plants, ivy is especially popular, but it should be borne in mind that it is demanding to care for.
It is a little easier with flowers - for them you can choose containers or pots that match the design. It is also necessary to take into account the illumination of areas of the house, because some flowers need a lot of sunlight, while others - less.
Beautiful examples
This design is an example of a restrained and laconic style made "under a tree". From the attic there is an exit to a spacious and sunny terrace, under which there is a veranda.
Here it is worth paying attention to the location of the garage. This type of construction is convenient and practical, because you can get into the garage directly from the house, and at the same time it is not cold. The attic is equipped with a small balcony and non-standard windows, at the entrance to the house there is a veranda.
In this example, there is also a veranda and a terrace with an attic, but with one difference - the facade is finished "like a stone"
Thanks to the wide and high windows, the rooms of the house receive a sufficient amount of light. There is a small veranda, and the lack of a terrace is compensated by the non-standard shape of the roof.
And this is an example of a wonderful combination of a stone ground floor with a wooden attic, made in light shades. The garage is fully connected to the house.
The peculiarity of this design is that the attic has one common roof with other floors. This can be seen from the tall window on the left. The terrace is built in an arched shape, the garage is connected to the house.
