Absolutely different insects can cause harm to garden crops. However, some of them pose a slightly greater danger. These parasites include the green weevil, which is especially fond of raspberry foliage.

Pest signs

The leaf weevil is a small beetle belonging to the Coleoptera family... Insects differ in a variety of colors. There are both pale green bugs and pests of a juicy emerald color. Insects have an elongated head with a proboscis, thanks to which they got their name. Their second name is elephants. Weevils can be easily seen on plants. These small insects are especially dangerous in the form of larvae. The female lays eggs in the buds, and the larvae that emerge from them begin to instantly nibble on delicate tissues. Sometimes laying is carried out in the ground, then the larvae feed on the roots. Regardless of the type of clutch, small larvae cause great harm. They gnaw through the foliage of a wide variety of crops: raspberries, strawberries, peppers. Do not disdain and flower plants, tree foliage.

The presence of a weevil on crops provokes their oppression. The first sign is holes in the leaves, their edges are uneven. And also stems and roots can be spoiled. The affected parts of the plant turn lighter or yellow, foliage may fall off prematurely, be subjected to twisting or attacks by other insects. Plants look lethargic, weak. An additional sign of the appearance of weevils is the termination of the formation of ovaries.

If you completely ignore the pests, then the harvest can not wait at all. In addition, the plants will hurt very often, because the fungus easily penetrates through the gnawed holes.

Folk remedies

If leafy green bugs have just settled on your site, then you can try to get rid of them using folk methods. Consider a few viable options.

  • Hunting belt. Such traps are suitable if the weevils have flown to any fruit tree. The belts are hung on a trunk half a meter from the ground. It can be with an adhesive base and insecticidal impregnation. Then the beetles will not be able to climb up. The main thing is to check the traps in a timely manner.
  • Hand shaking off... To do this, you should choose a day when the temperature will be below +10 degrees. Spread a cloth or oilcloth under the tree, and then take a stick wrapped in burlap at the end. With this stick, you will need to tap the branches so that the beetles fall down. The collected parasites are destroyed.
  • Mustard infusion. You need to take half a bucket of water, immerse 0.1 kg of mustard powder and the same amount of grated laundry soap there. When the composition is infused a little, plants are sprayed with it. The first time it should be done a week before the start of flowering, and the second - after about 10 days.
  • Infusion of onions and celandine. You need to take a three-liter jar and fill it with three parts of onion husks and one part of celandine. Top up with water, leave for a couple of hours. Then strain and spray the plants. Do not dilute the product with water.
  • Boron and iodine solution. Three containers are needed here: two small and one 10-liter bucket. In the first container, 10 grams of boric acid are dissolved in a liter of heated water, stirred well, insisted for a quarter of an hour. Then add brilliant green (2 tablespoons) and iodine (5 tablespoons) to the solution. Manganese is stirred in a second container in 0.2 l of water. The color should be rich. Then the contents of both containers are combined with a bucket of water, and watered with the composition of the beds. By the way, the next day after such treatment, the bushes are sprayed with ammonia. For this, three liters of water are combined with a product bubble. It is necessary to carry out processing immediately, until the substances have evaporated.
  • Composition of soda and soap. We take a liter of heated water, add two tablespoons of soap there (it is better to take tar in liquid form), as well as a spoonful of soda. After mixing, the culture is sprayed with a solution.

It is important that there is no rain on this day and the next, otherwise the treatment will have to be repeated.

Store drugs

If the moment is missed, and a lot of weevils have bred on the site, then it will be most appropriate to fight them with store preparations. Here are some proven remedies.

  • Fitoverm. An excellent biological agent that can saturate the soil with beneficial organisms. The drug is in liquid form, so it will need to be diluted with water. The frequency of treatments is once a month.
  • Biokill. This is a very good product, practically harmless to plants. It permanently destroys both green weevils and other pests on the site. It can be used even three days before harvesting.
  • Aktara. A powerful insecticide that kills weevils in just one treatment. It has a cumulative effect, stays in soil and plants for a long time, therefore it is recommended to use it in early spring.

  • Make it a rule protect plants with herbs with a pungent aroma. Pests do not like the smell of tobacco, marigolds, wormwood, garlic.
  • Do harmless from time to time infusions based on tobacco dust, tomato or potato tops and spray them on the plants, even if they are healthy. This will scare off parasites.
  • If the weevil has chosen trees, then you need to take care of the bark. In the fall, it is necessary to clean off dead areas, behind which pests may be hiding, and whitewash the trunks.
  • Arrange foliage traps for bugs. Heaps of fallen leaves will attract insects that are about to lay the masonry, and then you simply carry them out of the site.
