Choosing a computer chair and a table for it for a child
A computer desk and a regular work desk for lessons are two different tables, so when preparing a workplace for a child, you should think in advance whether the student will use a stationary computer or a laptop on it. The point is not in external differences, but in constructional ones, which at first glance are invisible to an inexperienced user.
When choosing a computer desk for a child, also keep in mind that a special chair will be required for it.
Peculiarities
To begin with, you should pay attention to the difference between a computer desk for a student and a written one. The first and main design feature of a computer desk is the depth of the table top. It should be at least 70 cm. For comfortable and safe work, the monitor should be located at a distance of at least 65 cm.
At first glance, the monitor still stands on an ordinary table, but for some reason no one thinks that there will also be a keyboard in front of the student, and it is necessary to leave space for notebooks and textbooks.
Even better, if the table is equipped with a monitor stand, then the child has additional space for storing things and a keyboard (under the stand). However, orthopedic surgeons are categorically against the supports, which are not clearly located in front of the child's eyes, but to the side (at an angle of 45 degrees to the seated person). This leads to 100% poor posture.
Even an adult finds it difficult to control the position of his body when he needs to look at the monitor from the side, and children instantly twist their shoulders and spine.
For the same reason, it is not recommended to buy a corner table for a primary school student.
The second feature that distinguishes a children's computer desk from a desk is the presence of a hole for wires. This is a very important component that allows you to keep your workplace in order. The wires from the monitor, speakers, printer are very unnerving and distract the student's attention from the educational process. The mouse and keyboard should generally be wireless.
The third feature is the length of the table top. If you have to strictly save space and there is no way to make a workplace at least 130 cm long, it is better not to buy a computer desk at all. Equip a desk, and a child can use a computer in the living room.
To work with papers and the Internet at the same time, the child needs more space, he should be able to write fully without removing the keyboard from the table at this time.
How to choose a chair?
In fact, swivel seat wheeled chairs are not school chairs, but office options. They are designed for instant response and the ability to quickly move from table to table without getting up.
Such chairs are contraindicated for a child. A swivel chair in a few months will ruin the student's posture, since no child will refuse to twist on it during lessons, and this ensures that his body will be rotated 90 degrees when writing.
The computer chair must meet the following criteria:
- have wheels to move from the monitor to the writing area;
- have a seat movement lock so that you can fix the chair and prevent it from spinning around its axis;
- gas lift to adjust the seat height - when working with the keyboard and mouse, the elbows should be higher than the table top in order to reduce the load on the wrists and prevent the occurrence of tunnel syndrome, while writing, the elbows should lie on the table.
Important! For adolescents, the criteria for choosing a table and chairs do not differ from the criteria for younger students. The only exception is that the size of the chair may be older than an adult and no seat retainer is required.
How to choose the right option?
There are models with removable monitor stands located behind the desktop. Outwardly, it looks cool, but it carries a lot of inconvenience. More space is required for such a table, the space for which the tabletop lags behind the wall is not functionally used in any way (if only for storing any garbage).
The ideal option is a kit: a table with a tilt-adjustable table top but a fixed monitor stand; and a chair that is height-adjustable. If only a corner table rises into your room, then do not rush to buy the first one that attracted your eye.
For a student and teenager, corner tables must meet several parameters.
- The place where the child works at the PC (as a rule, this is the corner, where the monitor is best located) should be gently rounded. The trim should be flush. No bulging edging. This brings great discomfort when working.
- The tabletop should be much longer on one side of the monitor than on the other. The longer section provides writing space for the child. In this case, for a right-handed person, this part should be located on the right, for a left-handed person - on the left (so that the child does not touch the keyboard with his elbows when writing). The edge of the countertop should be straight. No waves or other design stuff.
- Writing boxes should only be located on the short side of the tabletop. It is necessary. By installing them near the work area, you make it easier to access the office supplies inside the drawers, but significantly reduce the legroom of the child. Better to have the student move to the other end of the table on a chair than ruin his posture, trying to fit 50 cm between the drawers and the keyboard.
For boys and girls
In fact, there is not much difference between boys 'and girls' computer desks. It usually consists in the color scheme of furniture and fittings. Pastel shades are more suitable for girls, and bright combinations for boys. Girls often prefer combinations of beige and apple green, pale pink and lilac, gray and pink. At the same time, if you offer them the same combinations, but in bright pure colors, then, most likely, they will refuse. Boys will choose a combination of blue and red, green and yellow, black and white. This is due to the peculiarities of color perception. And also psychologists note that girls will be glad to have a lock with a key on the boxes. They are more sensitive to personal space and prefer to have secret "chests" for their girlish treasures.
An overview of one of the models of such a chair is in the next video.
