How to sheathe a country house?
Materials for cladding country houses must be selected especially carefully. The cladding must protect the structure from negative external factors, therefore, its quality and performance must be appropriate. Fortunately, there are enough products on the market for building and finishing materials that are suitable for such work. Today we will look at how you can effectively sheathe a country house.
Requirements
So that dampness does not form in the house in the country, it is always comfortable, warm and cozy, and from the outside, the building looked aesthetically pleasing, it is necessary to select such facing materials that meet a number of basic requirements.
- The cladding must be characterized by a low thermal conductivity. Only in this way will the heat be retained in the inner part of the building.
- The lining must be vapor-permeable. In no case should condensate appear in the inner part of the insulating layers.
- Moisture resistance is another important parameter that should be related to the cladding. The material should not absorb moisture into its structure and keep it there.
- The heat resistance of the cladding is either increased or absolute. Materials must be able to withstand high temperatures without any problems: they must not melt, ignite, or deform.
- It is desirable to select a lining that is chemically inert. It should not change its original properties when such substances fall on it.
- The cladding must be qualitatively protected from the harmful effects of various microorganisms. It does not have to be a breeding ground for parasites, insects, or rodents.
- The cladding material should not decompose or undergo a loss of physical qualities under the influence of aggressive ultraviolet rays.
In order for the cladding to be effective in all respects, it must not only be secured to the base as securely as possible, but also supplemented with a whole set of layers, each of which will perform its own specific functions.
Materials (edit)
Sheathing for country houses must be selected based not only on your own preferences and budgetary possibilities, but also on the operational characteristics of a particular material. The assortment of such products is huge, so it will not be difficult to choose a good, high-quality and durable option for the exterior decoration of a country house.
Wood
Wood paneling has been relevant at all times. It is unlikely that her popularity will ever fizzle out. This material is so popular and in demand because it looks great and can regulate the humidity level in rooms.
This is the only type of cladding that will seamlessly remove excess moisture, regardless of what raw materials the wall structures of the house are made of.
The most popular wood-based materials are:
- block house;
- imitation of a bar;
- lining for exterior cladding.
The block house effectively simulates a rounded log. Its front side is characterized by a rounded structure. As for the imitation of a bar - the specified sheathing is outwardly as similar as possible to planed bars. Both types of external finishing must be attached to a previously prepared, strong crate. After this, the coatings should be sanded and coated with special protective impregnations. Sometimes homeowners tint or varnish such cladding.
The lining for outdoor decoration differs from the material designed for interior work. It is much thicker and denser, but the rest of the characteristics remain almost the same.
As mentioned above, the wooden exterior cladding is always attached with a batten. It is usually made of either wood or metal. If necessary, the selected insulation material is placed in the space between the planks (expanded polystyrene and polystyrene are not recommended), and then the cladding itself is fixed.
The listed cladding materials, which are based on wood, can be the optimal solution for a country house, built not only from wood, but also from a foam block, aerated concrete or slag.
If you want to save money, then you can turn to the most budgetary option - a simple planed board. Its thickness is from 40 cm. Attach it in the same way as a lining or block house - you will need a crate. Such cladding will also have to be looked after, otherwise it will begin to rot, darken, collapse from attacks of parasites.
Siding
It is another popular cladding material that is often chosen over wood options. Many people are turning to siding cladding. This type of cladding is also nailed to the lathing, so the facade comes out ventilated.
Siding is an excellent solution if you need to decorate the walls of a summer house from a bar, logs or shields, foam block, aerated concrete, cinder blocks.
There are several types of siding. So, vinyl products are made from polyvinyl chloride. These are strips, on the longitudinal edges of which there is a locking system on one side, and on the other - perforation for fasteners.
Attach these covers to the crate. It is better to use a metal base, but a construction of wooden blocks treated with protective agents is also allowed.
The main advantage of vinyl siding is that it is relatively inexpensive and very easy to install. But he also has weaknesses. Vinyl siding quickly fades in the sun, losing the brightness of the colors. It is recommended to buy panels of not too variegated and saturated colors - such solutions will not remain attractive for a long time. This material is able to withstand a wide variety of temperature conditions, but in too severe frosts it still becomes more fragile.
Thin aluminum strips are metal siding. Steel can be used instead of aluminum. These products have a special protective coating. The fastening system for these products is the same as for the vinyl versions.
The coating of metal siding can be polymer. These are reliable solutions that will not fade in the sun. Other climatic factors are not terrible for these materials either. But the choice of metal siding colors is poor. There is also metal siding, complemented by powder coatings. Here, the range of colors to choose from is much richer, and the paint is retained for many years without flaws.
Metal siding is hardwearing and durable. It is possible to bend it, but it will hardly be possible to break it. Installation work is simple and fast. True, the aesthetic qualities of this material are questionable by many homeowners. It seems to people that houses, decorated in this way, look too "production".
Separately, it is worth analyzing the features of basement siding. This is one of the subtypes of vinyl flooring. Its characteristics differ from PVC products: the thickness is greater, the appearance is different. This material was developed to decorate and protect the basement of buildings, but today it is also used for external cladding in general.
Thanks to the basement siding, the facade of the country house can be built in such a way that its walls will imitate brickwork or a chic wild stone.Often the imitations are so successful that they can be "calculated" only if the surface of the cladding is touched.
This type of siding is also mounted on the crate. The locking systems here are similar to the vinyl versions. The only difference is that these elements do not have a rectangular structure, but the shape of a certain section of the wall with curly lines along the edges.
Clinker thermal panels
This is one of the most relevant and modern coatings for external cladding and insulation of the facade of buildings. They are suitable for cladding a garden or country house. Such products began to go on sale relatively recently, but this did not prevent them from gaining enviable popularity in a short period of time.
Clinker thermoplates have a number of advantages that make them in demand:
- it is a multi-tasking material that decorates the facade and insulates the building;
- high-quality panels imitate brickwork well, are made in different shades, so you can choose them for almost every taste and color;
- make the surface more neat and aesthetic;
- thermal panels can be used for cladding any buildings: both wooden and brick;
- such coatings are lightweight, so there is no need to additionally strengthen the foundation of the old house;
- since this cladding has a low level of water absorption, the facade can be washed without problems with water from a hose;
- the panels are connected tightly, so the cold does not penetrate into the house.
The base of these coatings can be polyurethane or expanded polystyrene. Clinker tiles are pressed into this base.
Panels can be either straight or angled. This modern facing material is mounted on the crate, like the options described above. The structure can be made not only of metal, but also of a wooden bar treated with antiseptics.
Fiber cement boards
Relatively new material. Siding has appeared on the market of the same type.
The products under consideration consist of wood fiber, mica, quartz, cement.
The presence of asbestos and chlorine is allowed. The solution is composited into a sheet, dehydrated and can be fired. Further, decorative and protective layers are applied to the sheet metal:
- acrylic;
- hydrophilic-ceramic;
- photoceramic.
The covering surface of the cladding can be smooth, matte or glossy. Plates are installed on mounting strips, attached to the walls with clamps. The material forms a continuous surface, the joints are hermetically sealed, no precipitation gets into them.
