Despite the striking beauty of this home plant, many novice florists do not want to grow such a flower at home. And all because there is an opinion that cyclamen is a very capricious plant and requires special care. In fact, this is absolutely not the case. If you follow simple rules, the flower will grow healthy and beautiful.

Watering frequency

Any house plant requires attention. With proper care and timely watering, flowers will delight you with their beauty and abundant flowering. Cyclamen is not as whimsical in leaving as it seems at first glance. Of course, there are certain rules for caring for him, observing which you can grow a beautiful flower on your windowsill.

Watering plays a very significant role in the life of the plant. It is important to consider how much the plant loves water and how often it needs watering. For example, there are flowers that only need to be watered once a week. But the cyclamen should have its own regime, and it is very important to observe the frequency of watering. Despite the fact that cyclamen needs regular and sometimes abundant watering, it is important to remember that the root system of this plant is very sensitive.

If you moisten the flower incorrectly, then soon the roots will begin to rot, which will ultimately lead to death.

Watering cyclamen should be done with great care so as not to harm its health and beauty. The frequency of watering always depends on the condition of the soil. Before the next watering, the soil should be slightly moistened, in no case should the soil completely dry out. As a rule, on average, this plant is watered once a week. Of course, a lot depends on the weather conditions of the region where you live. In the event that the soil dries out quickly, then the plant will have to be moistened more often, at least twice a week.

To carry out timely watering, you can focus not only on the condition of the soil, but also on the appearance of the plant itself. It is very important to monitor the condition of the leaves, as improper watering always affects their condition. If the leaves have become more lethargic, and even began to turn yellow, then this indicates that you are oversaturated with moisture. This means that the frequency and volume of watering should be reduced.

Besides, due to improper watering, the leaves can lose their elasticity... Most often, flower growers encounter such a situation in the hot season. Therefore, in hot summer, the flower should be moistened twice a week.

The dryness of the soil can be checked with a wooden stick. During normal and flowering periods, the first centimeter of soil should be dry. During the rest period, the soil is allowed to dry by two centimeters.

Water requirements

Even novice flower growers know that no houseplant should be watered with ordinary tap water. Such a liquid contains a large amount of harmful impurities and various salts, which negatively affects the health of domestic plants. That's why you need to water the flowers only with the right water, which cannot harm the health of the flower.

If you are unable to filter and purify tap water, then at least settle it for two days. Thus, all harmful impurities will settle and evaporate, thanks to which you get water suitable for watering cyclamen.

In addition, it is important to remember that softened water is suitable for irrigation. If necessary, you can use boiled liquid. After boiling, the water becomes cleaner and safer, which helps to avoid harmful effects and protects the beloved flower from the appearance of various kinds of bacteria. Water the flower with water at room temperature.

The ways

It is very important to properly water the cyclamen at home, since correct watering will provide high-quality soil moisture. The best way to water this type of home plant is through a tray. To do this, pour water into a tray or other deep container. Then we put the pots of flowers directly into the pallet. As soon as you notice that the topsoil is wet, you can remove the pots. It is important to allow them to drain a little to get rid of excess fluid.

Tray watering is the best and optimal moisture method for a given plant species. Thanks to this method, the flower itself will absorb as much moisture as it needs. If you want to water in a different way, for example, moisten through the top of the soil, then we recommend using a watering can with a narrow and long spout.

Water does not need to be poured near the stem. It should be distributed only along the edge of the pot itself.

Cyclamens feel just as great on wick irrigation. Thanks to this method, the plant independently absorbs the required amount of moisture. In addition, this method of watering is great if you need to leave home for a long time.

Step-by-step instruction

Like any house plant, this flower needs proper care. It should be noted that resting care differs from flowering care. Therefore, if you want the flower to always be beautiful and healthy, then you need to follow some recommendations.

During the so-called dormant period, the plant no longer needs frequent and abundant watering. Therefore, the number of watering should be reduced, otherwise it will lead to such negative consequences as rotting of the root system and other diseases. In addition, it is important to remember that the cyclamen does not need light during the rest period. Ideally, it should be moved to a darker and cooler place, thereby creating the most comfortable conditions for the flower for this period.

During the rest period, it is not necessary to moisturize the soil in which the cyclamen grows too often and abundantly. It is enough just to moisten the soil every two weeks. Always check the condition of the soil so that you can water on time.

After transplant

It is worth noting that cyclamen is a very sensitive plant, and if basic rules are not followed, it can be seriously endangered. During transplantation, it is imperative to sterilize the container and soil, otherwise the plant will hurt. In addition, it is important to remember that all instruments that you will use during the transplant must also be sterile.

After transplanting, do not water the plant abundantly. Watering should be moderate, after which the container with cyclamen should be placed in a cool place where there is no bright light.

During flowering

It is important to remember that during flowering, any type of plant spends all its reserves and resources. Therefore, during such a period, it needs special care and more frequent watering. During the flowering period, this flower cannot be kept in direct sunlight, as this will negatively affect its health and beauty. It is desirable to provide the cyclamen with comfortable conditions: diffused lighting and an air temperature of no more than +15 degrees.

During the flowering period, this houseplant needs abundant watering. In addition, it is very important to add various dressings to the water, which contain such useful substances as magnesium and potassium. A pallet can be used for abundant watering. If watering is carried out through a pan, this will allow the root system of the flower to be saturated with all the necessary substances as much as possible, due to which the flowering will be lush and abundant.

Spraying can also be carried out during the flowering period. But this must be done with great care so that drops of water do not stagnate on the leaves and flowers, otherwise it will lead to rotting.

Typically, the plant is moistened once a week, and sometimes every ten days. It all depends on the temperature in the room, on the age of the plant and on the condition of the soil.

Frequent mistakes

Novice flower growers are often faced with the fact that the cyclamen does not bloom well, that the flower becomes lethargic and sick. Incorrect care is to blame. Many make serious mistakes during watering, which negatively affects the general condition of the home plant.

The most common mistake of novice florists is that they literally flood the flower with water. And it is categorically impossible to do this, since from excess moisture, the root system of the plant will begin to rot, and your favorite flower will die. If, due to excessive moisture, the leaves began to wither and fall off, then urgent measures should be taken to resuscitate the flower. In this case, the plant is completely removed from the soil, the root system is cleaned of soil residues and then processed a special agent from the series of fungicides.

Then, after drying the roots for several hours, the cyclamen is planted in a new container. In the event of such an emergency transplant, the old soil and pot should not be used.

An insufficient amount of water also negatively affects the health of the plant. Therefore, overdrying the soil and forgetting to water the flower, you run the risk that soon it will simply die. If the plant is without moisture for a long time, the soil will begin to crack, then soon this will lead to the appearance of mites.

Water of the wrong temperature also negatively affects the health of the flower. If the liquid is too cold or hot, the plant will feel bad. The liquid must not be allowed to fall on the top of the root.

Another common mistake of novice florists is the wrong choice of fertilizers. Remember, not all quality fertilizers are created equal for flowers. Consult with specialists and select only top dressing suitable for cyclamen... In addition, do not allow fertilizer particles to fall on the stems or leaves of the flower, as this can cause burns and serious illness.

You will learn more about the correct watering of cyclamen in the following video.

They gave me a blooming cyclamen, and I have work for the whole day until the evening ... can you tell me how to properly care for it, for example, using the same wick method?

For wick irrigation, the composition of the soil is very important. It must be lightweight and breathable so that the ground does not turn into a swamp. The most common options are high-moor peat and perlite. For the manufacture of the wick, we take old nylon tights - well-permeable. Now you need to choose the size of the pot and the container for water so that the pot sits stably on the container. We stretch the wick through the drainage holes, put foam plastic on the bottom of the pot (expanded clay is not needed in this case). Then we pour a little (0.5-1 cm) of soil, put the wick horizontally and fill it with soil.
