Cherry Zhurba appeared thanks to the Belarusians in the twentieth century and quickly entered the circle of cherries that won the respect of gardeners. Now the variety appears frequently on the plots compared to previous years. This is explained by the rate of maturation of successful selection, the acquisition of resistance to frost and pest attacks.

Description of the variety

Cherry is intended for fresh consumption. This variety belongs to medium-sized and reaches a height of 3-3.5 m. The crown of a pyramidal shape has light green foliage of medium density. With age, the lower branches may droop slightly.

Fruit characteristics

The size of the heart-shaped fruit is classified as medium or above average. The berries weigh 5-8 g. Matte skin has a yellow tint. Inside the berry has a light yellow juicy pulp of medium density.

Taste qualities

Taste described by tasters: sweet, pleasant. The berries have a yellow juice. Taste score: 4.8 points.

Ripening and fruiting

The early maturity of the Zhurba cherry is 4-5 years. This means that it takes more than four years to wait for the outlandish yellow berries after planting a tree. In terms of flowering time refers to early, in terms of ripening: to medium. The fruiting period begins in the middle of summer.

After planting the seedlings, it will take a long time before you can see the first berries on the tree. The first flowering occurs only in the fourth year of the tree's life. At this time, the tree produces only a small number of flowers. In the fifth year, you can already expect more active flowering and the first, albeit small, harvest. A decent harvest can be harvested for 6-7 years.

Yield

Zhurba is a high-yielding tree. Upon reaching adulthood, it blooms every season.

Growing regions

Sweet cherry feels great in the Moscow region and in the Moscow region. Due to its frost resistance (the indicator is high), it is well suited for growing in central Russia and other, more northern regions.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

The variety is partly self-fertile. Suitable pollinators: Cherries North, Osvobozhdeniye, Zolotaya Loshitskaya and Narodnaya.

Growing and care

Disembarkation is carried out in a sunny place with fertile soil, well protected from strong wind currents. Fertile land is a kind of guarantor of good survival rate of cherries. It grows poorly in sandy and clayey environments. It is good if the cherry pollinator is located nearby.

The seedlings have a closed root system. Therefore, when planting, it is important to help the tree and spread the roots evenly: the cherry itself will not cope with this. The approximate parameters of the pit: 60x60 cm and 80-90 cm in depth. The distance between trees should be about 3 meters.

The pit is pre-filled with fertilizers by a third. Composition:

  • 35 kg of manure or humus;

  • 1 liter of wood ash;

  • 1 kg of potash type fertilizer;

  • 3 kg superphosphate;

  • 2 kg of ammonium sulfate;

  • 2 buckets of earth.

And also a support post is placed at the bottom of the dug hole, to which at the end it will be possible to tie a tree. Having spread the roots evenly, they begin to fill the pit. The process is accompanied by periodic compaction of the earth. A little earth must be left, so that later it can be sprinkled on the places where shrinkage appeared from the first watering. The trunk of the tree should be 3-5 cm covered with earth.

It is useful to mulch cherries. For this, dry foliage will do.

Weeds are regularly weeded, the process will also be aimed at loosening the soil: in the first years of life, this is especially important for the normal development and growth of the root system.

Fruit trees love watering. The abundant process is carried out three times a season (provided there are no long rainy seasons). Good watering is also essential for cherries after fertilization.

Sweet cherries are planted in a sunny and well-protected place from the wind. The soil should be fertile, loose and moisture-permeable. There are two options for planting cherries - spring and autumn. The first option is the most preferred and is suitable for all growing regions. In the southern regions, planting can be carried out in the fall.
One of the benefits of grafting a tree is to restore overgrown plants, improve the taste of the fruit, and adapt southern varieties to cool climates. If you follow all the recommendations of experts, you can strengthen the immune system of cherries, and it will be more resistant to pests and diseases.
In order to harvest a rich and tasty cherry crop every year, you need to properly care for it. Timely watering is one of the essential steps in care. The rate of watering a cherry tree directly depends on how dry and hot the weather is, and on the amount of precipitation. Basically, cherries need to be watered about 3-5 times per season, depending on the weather conditions in your area.
One of the most important agrotechnical measures in the cultivation of sweet cherry is correct and timely pruning. Correct pruning eliminates the consumption of nutrients for infertile shoots, so more trace elements are sent to the fruiting branches. This process increases the quality and quantity of the harvest.

Disease and pest resistance

Zhurba is characterized as a disease-resistant variety. Including it well resists coccomycosis. It is important that protection against diseases (chemical treatment and treatment with solutions) occurs before or after the period of flowering and fruit formation.

When caring for cherries, you need to carry out timely protection against various pests and pathogens. Depending on the cause and nature of the course, all cherry diseases can be conditionally divided into several categories - infectious and non-infectious. Each category of diseases provides for its own plan and method of treatment, the use of certain drugs and folk remedies.
Self-cultivation of sweet cherries is a complicated process. It is important to follow all the necessary subtleties and techniques for the fruit tree to take root. There are several ways to propagate cherries: grafting on another tree, cuttings, growing from a stone, propagation by root shoots or layering.
