Popular among gardeners are not only Russian varieties of cherries, but also foreign ones. Cherry Syubarovskaya belongs to just such. It is appreciated for its high yield, excellent taste of the fruit, as well as for its universal purpose.
Breeding history
The culture was bred in Belarus. E. Syubarova was one of the selection authors. It was in her honor that the variety was named. The parental pair were Severnaya and Pobeda varieties. In 2005, the culture was included in the state register of the Republic of Belarus.
Description of the variety
The tree is very vigorous. The trunk of an adult tree reaches a height of 4-5 m. The shoots are brown, rather smooth. The crown is formed broadly pyramidal. Branches from the trunk extend straight, not curved.
There are a lot of leaves on the branches, they are large and have different shades: young leaves are usually light green, and those that are older become dark green. The leaf plates are elongated and pointed, ovoid in shape. There are small notches along the edges.
The buds bloom late, at the end of March. The inflorescence resembles an umbrella in shape and consists of 2-3 flowers. The buds are white.
The variety has a stable (annual) yield with high rates. Advantages: the culture has a long lifespan, early maturity and immunity to diseases. Of the shortcomings, the most common are the self-infertility of cherries and the exactingness of the planting site.
Fruit characteristics
Fruits are medium, round or heart-shaped in shape. The mass of one drupe is from 5 to 7 g, the average diameter is 4-5 cm. Cherries are dark red in color. Fully ripe fruits can be maroon in color.
The skin is soft and tender, with a slight waxy bloom. The pulp is dark red, medium density, fleshy and juicy. There is a small bone inside. Separating it from the pulp is not difficult.
By designation, the variety is universal. Therefore, cherries are consumed fresh, juices, compotes, jams and preserves are prepared from it. Due to the density of the skin, the fruits tolerate freezing well, and after it the cherries do not lose their elasticity. The culture also tolerates long-distance transportation well.
Taste qualities
Cherry Syubarovskaya has a high tasting score - 4.8 points. The fruit has a pleasant and sweet taste, which is practically devoid of acidity. If the fruits are sour, then, most likely, the culture is simply not ripe.
Ripening and fruiting
The first fruiting occurs 4 years after planting. The ripening period is early, and already at the beginning of June the first cherries begin to set. The fruiting period is extended, it falls on the end of June - the beginning of July. Harvesting takes place in several stages, since the fruits ripen at different times.
Yield
The Syubarovskaya variety has a good yield. Up to 18-20 kg of fruit can be removed from one adult tree. The maximum yield on an industrial scale reaches 25-30 tons per hectare.
Young trees give from 3 to 5 kg of fruit in the first year. Much depends on the care and landing site.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
As noted earlier, the crop is self-fertile and requires pollinating varieties. For good pollination, it is necessary to plant other varieties of cherries at a distance of at least 3-4 m. It is recommended to plant at least two varieties of pollinators to increase the efficiency of pollination.
For Syubarovskaya cherries, the following varieties are ideal candidates for pollination:
- People's;
- Gronkavaya;
- North;
- Muscat;
- Iput.
All of these varieties have the same flowering time, so they are ideal for this process.
Growing and care
Slopes and small hills are considered the best places for planting young cherry seedlings. Sunlight should hit the selected area as much as possible. A small structure may rise nearby, which will protect from strong winds.
Another important criterion is that the selected area should be covered with snow in the winter. But you can't plant a tree next to the house, where snow can come off the roof in the spring. The heavy crust will just break the tree. Low and actively growing shrubs are suitable for surrounding cherries.
The soil should be rich in minerals and limestone. In this case, clay and peat should be minimized. The pit is prepared in 2-4 weeks. This is necessary so that the earth collapses a little and dries out. The planting algorithm is simple, so it will not cause difficulties even for novice gardeners.
First, a hole is dug with a depth of 0.6-0.8 m (depending on the age of the seedling and the root system) and a diameter of 0.7 m. Pebbles are poured at the bottom, which acts as drainage. The stones are covered with earth. The rest of the earth is mixed with black soil and humus.
The seedling gently sinks to the bottom of the hole. The roots are straightened to avoid creases, and everything is covered with earth. The soil must be tamped, and a peg should be driven in next to the tree and the trunk should be tied up. After planting, the soil is poured abundantly with 2-3 buckets of water.
The subsequent care of the crop plays an important role, as the future yield and health of the crop directly depend on it. Sweet cherry Syubarovskaya is very demanding for regular watering. Irrigation should be abundant, and most often water is mixed with fertilizers. One adult tree requires 12 to 15 buckets.
You can loosen the soil after watering or rain. At this time, all weeds are removed on the site. The procedure is carried out as needed. Crown formation is carried out twice a year, in spring and autumn.
