Many people love sunny yellow cherries, and this is not surprising. After all, even in appearance, it seems sweeter and more attractive. It is also important that people do not have an allergic reaction to a berry of this color, if we compare it, say, with red. Therefore, it is worthwhile to familiarize yourself in more detail with the yellow-fruited cherry variety Dachnitsa.

Breeding history

Such a beautiful variety was received by Ukrainian breeders on the basis of the Institute of Irrigated Horticulture in Melitopol. The summer resident is the fruit of the activities of the famous scientist-breeder Nikolai Ivanovich Turovtsev. In his work on a new crop, he used the method of pollination of the Bigarreau Napoleon variety (Napoleon) with mixed pollen of 12 varieties of sweet cherries. The culture has been under strain testing since 1984.

Description of the variety

The summer resident grows very quickly, the crown forms not too dense, but spreading and raised. The height of the tree is 3 to 4 meters. Fruiting near the tree is concentrated on both bouquet branches and annual shoots.

Fruit characteristics

The shiny fruits of a beautiful yellow shade shine in the sun and make the tree very decorative. The shape is traditional, rounded, slightly like a heart, the abdominal seam is shallow, barely noticeable. The top of the berry is round, there is a small wide depression at the base. The seed inside the berries is not too large and separates very well from the pulp.

The fruits are quite large, all the same size, 12 grams each, the presentation is excellent. White numerous subcutaneous dots are almost invisible. The stalk is medium.

Taste qualities

Cherry Dachnitsa is fragrant, has an excellent dessert taste, sweet, with a slight sourness. The fruit has a thin, almost imperceptible skin when eaten, which is easily removed, as well as a juicy cream-colored pulp with transparent juice. The tasting committee rated the sweet cherry rather high - 4.6 on a five-point system. Appetizing berries are used fresh, they make very tasty compotes, aromatic jam.

Ripening and fruiting

The Dachnitsa variety is a mid-early subspecies of sweet cherry. The harvest ripens starting from June 10, and it is harvested until the middle of this month. Fast-growing culture. Fruiting starts in the third or fourth season.

After planting the seedlings, it will take a long time before you can see the first berries on the tree. The first flowering occurs only in the fourth year of the tree's life. At this time, the tree produces only a small number of flowers. In the fifth year, you can already expect more active flowering and the first, albeit small, harvest. A decent harvest can be harvested for 6-7 years.

Yield

At the age of 12 years, the average yield of a tree is 40-45 kilograms.

Growing regions

The culture is recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus, Astrakhan and the region. However, given the frost and drought resistance of the culture, the Summer resident can be successfully cultivated in any other territory. As for the Ukrainian regions and regions, here the variety was zoned according to the steppe zone.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

The described culture is self-fertile. In order for the fruits to set, the presence of pollinating donors is necessary nearby. Experts consider the varieties to be the best of them:

  • Wang;
  • Drogana yellow;
  • Franz Joseph;
  • Mascot;
  • Melitopol black.

Growing and care

To plant a Summer Resident in your garden, it is important to find an open place that will be illuminated by sunlight, but with protection from cold winds. The occurrence of groundwater must be deep, at least 1.5-2 m from the surface of the earth. As for the soil, a neutral variety is suitable, with a pH in the range of 6.5-7, the optimal options are sandy loam, loamy.

The planting pit should be 80x60 cm in size. It is better to take a 1- or 2-year-old seedling with developed roots, smooth bark, no defects, spots, with 3-4 branches, which already have buds. When planting a cherry orchard, the trees must be staggered with an interval of 3-3.5 m.

Planted trees are unpretentious, so standard care is enough for them: regular watering, top dressing in autumn and spring, loosening the soil, pruning the crown.

The adult tree of the Summer Resident is quite resistant to cold weather. However, young seedlings must be protected from frost and rodent pests. To do this, the tree trunk can be wrapped with burlap, agrofibre or spruce branches. The roots of the tree will not freeze if the periosteal circle is mulched. It is recommended to whitewash the trunks and skeletal branches in autumn with a lime solution.

Sweet cherries are planted in a sunny and well-protected place from the wind. The soil should be fertile, loose and moisture-permeable. There are two options for planting cherries - spring and autumn. The first option is the most preferred and is suitable for all growing regions. In the southern regions, planting can be carried out in the fall.
One of the benefits of grafting a tree is to restore overgrown plants, improve the taste of the fruit, and adapt southern varieties to cool climates. If you follow all the recommendations of experts, you can strengthen the immune system of cherries, and it will be more resistant to pests and diseases.
In order to harvest a rich and tasty cherry crop every year, you need to properly care for it. Timely watering is one of the essential steps in care. The rate of watering a cherry tree directly depends on how dry and hot the weather is, and on the amount of precipitation. Basically, cherries need to be watered about 3-5 times per season, depending on the weather conditions in your area.
One of the most important agrotechnical measures in the cultivation of sweet cherry is correct and timely pruning. Correct pruning eliminates the consumption of nutrients for infertile shoots, so more trace elements are sent to the fruiting branches. This process increases the quality and quantity of the harvest.

Disease and pest resistance

The described culture is characterized by resistance, which is above average, to fungal diseases: moniliosis, coccomycosis. And also it is almost not affected by the cherry fly.

When caring for cherries, you need to carry out timely protection against various pests and pathogens. Depending on the cause and nature of the course, all cherry diseases can be conditionally divided into several categories - infectious and non-infectious. Each category of diseases provides for its own plan and method of treatment, the use of certain drugs and folk remedies.

Requirements for soil and climatic conditions

The summer resident can withstand dry summers and bitter frosts down to -30 degrees. And also it is quite resistant to cracking of fruits in the rainy period. Flower buds show excellent tolerance to spring return frosts.

Self-cultivation of sweet cherries is a complicated process. It is important to follow all the necessary subtleties and techniques for the fruit tree to take root.There are several ways to propagate cherries: grafting on another tree, cuttings, growing from a stone, propagation by root shoots or layering.
