Many people are ready to feast on cherry fruits all year round, but this, unfortunately, is impossible. Early varieties of cherries are very popular, however, along with them, gardeners often grow late ones, because they, one might say, complete the cycle and are the last delicacy of the season. It is precisely this late variety that Bryanskaya pink has become.
Breeding history
Bryansk pink was bred by a group of scientists from the All-Russian Research Institute of Lupine. The enterprise is located in the city of Bryansk. The new subspecies is based on the Black Muscat variety. With the help of its pollination, M.V. Kanshin and A.I. Astakhov received cherries fully adapted to the conditions of the middle zone. Culture tests began in 1987, and in 1993 it was successfully entered into the State Register.
Description of the variety
Culture Bryansk pink belongs to the pink family. This plant has an average type of growth, rarely grows above 3.5 m.Consider other features of the plant:
the bark is brown, but with age it becomes darker, the process of peeling begins;
shoots are distinguished by an even or slightly curved structure, the bark on them is brown or gray-brown;
skeletal branches grow upwards, in relation to the trunk they are at a perfectly right angle;
the crown looks like a wide pyramid, it is very strong, directed upward;
too much foliage on the crown is not observed;
leaf blades are dense, green, their size is large;
light pigmentation is noted on the upper part of the sheets, but there is no pubescence;
the flowers grow one at a time, or they are collected in 3 pieces in inflorescences;
flowers are saucer-shaped and delicate white in color, small in size.
Fruit characteristics
Drupes of Bryansk pink have dimensional parameters of 20x21x18 millimeters. The standard weight of one medium sweet cherry is 4-5.5 g, and the largest fruits reach 7 grams. Drupes are round, pink, with an unobtrusive speckled pattern. Medium length and thickness of the stalk, dry separation of fruits provide high marketability and transportability of the variety.
The cherries are covered with a thin and dense skin that hides the yellow cartilaginous flesh. The culture's juice is clear. The stone is small, light brown, weighing 0.27 grams. It does not separate very well from the pulp. The fruits contain 13.8% sugars, 0.47% acids and 14.2 mg of ascorbic acid.
Taste qualities
Sweet cherries of the Bryanskaya rozovaya variety give predominantly sweet fruits. However, they have a slight bitterness. Drupes are used universally: fresh, in cooking, when decorating ready-made dishes and fruit salads.
Ripening and fruiting
The Bryanskaya pink culture is late. It begins to bloom only by mid-May, and drupes appear towards the end of July. The tree does not have a high early maturity: it will begin to give yields only in the 5th year after planting.
Yield
It is at the middle level for this cherry. The tree bears fruit steadily, and the average usually stops at around 55 c / ha. The maximum recorded indicator is 103 c / ha. If we are talking about individual trees planted on a private plot, then each gives about 20 kilograms. In especially fruitful rare years, this amount can be increased by 1.5-2 times.
Growing regions
Bryansk pink was developed specifically for the Central region of the Russian Federation. It is most widespread in the Bryansk and adjacent regions.
Self-fertility and the need for pollinators
Sweet cherries of this variety are not independently pollinated. To form ovaries, varieties such as Iput, Tyutchevka, Revna and Ovstuzhenka are planted nearby.
Growing and care
The purchase of seedlings of Bryansk rosea is carried out only in proven nurseries. The tree must be two years old. Cherries are planted in spring, in the first half of April. After planting, the top of the tree is shortened to 0.6-0.7 m from the soil level.
The shape of the crown should be sparse-tiered, and they begin to do this already in the second year after planting. The lower floor of the crown consists of three branches, the intermediate one consists of two, and the upper one consists of a stem growing vertically. Twigs that will regularly appear on the sides should be removed, not forgetting to apply garden var to the sections. When the tree grows to three meters, you will need to pinch its top.
From the age of five, sanitary pruning is carried out, as well as procedures aimed at thinning the crown. Any branches that deviate from the norm are cut out. All manipulations are carried out before the dissolution of the kidneys.
First-year trees cannot do without water for a long time. Therefore, they will have to be watered weekly. To do this, a groove is pulled out along the perimeter of the trunk circle. The liquid is poured there, not directly under the root. Each tree consumes no more than 12 liters of water. As for the adult culture, it is not watered as often. It will be enough only three times per season: the start of flowering, the formation of buds, the maturation of drupes. An adult tree spends from 30 to 60 liters of liquid.
Fertilizers are very important for Bryanskaya rosa. They are held on a special schedule. In the second and third years of life, they are fed three times: at the time of flowering, and then two more times, withstanding an interval of 10 days. A 10-liter bucket of water is taken for each plant, in which 30 grams of urea is dissolved.
In the fourth year, the trees are fed twice: in early spring and after mid-August. In the spring, 150 grams of urea is added under the tree, and by the end of summer, 150 grams of potassium sulfate and 0.3 kg of superphosphate are given. Each cherry will then need to be poured with a bucket of water. From the fifth year on, the feeding will look the same. In early spring, it is 150 grams of urea, and in early autumn - superphosphate (0.4 kg), potassium nitrate (0.2 kg) and humus (5 kg). The dosage is indicated per tree.
Disease and pest resistance
Bryanskaya pink is an incredibly hardy cherry variety. She perfectly resists:
all kinds of fungi;
coccomycosis;
moniliosis;
clotterosporium disease.
Sometimes plants suffer from chlorosis. To cure the disease, it is enough to spray with a 1% solution of Bordeaux liquid. The second common disease is fruit rot. It is treated with 1% copper sulfate.
Aphids are also common in trees. A solution of tobacco dust will allow you to safely remove it. And against the sawfly who loves fruit and fruit trees, they use Iskra-M.
Requirements for soil and climatic conditions
Bryansk pink loves loose soils that allow air and water to pass through well. The optimal choice for this variety is loam, although trees grow well on sandy stones. The soil should not have too high or too low acidity. The correct choice is neutral indicators.
The culture is afraid of drought and extreme heat, so it is imperative to observe the irrigation regime. As for frost resistance, it is good, but not perfect. In the warm Bryansk region, trees are not sheltered for the winter, but in the Moscow region, this will have to be done, coupled with the installation of a protective mesh and whitewashing of the trunk.
As for the growing place, it should be sunny and warm. Most often, such cherries are planted near fences that provide protection from the wind.
