Brunner species and varieties do not imply much variety in the description. Although they are widespread over a vast territory, and in some sources doubles are given, with which they are easy to confuse. There are three genera in total. One of them grows mainly in Asia Minor.

The other two grow in Russia - Siberian and large-leaved. The latter is similar to the Siberian variety, which is more common in the Caucasus. This species is sometimes mistakenly referred to as those found in Siberia and Altai.

Both Russian species are perfect for decorating flower beds, flower beds, borders, rockeries and alpine hills.

Brunner macrophile and its description

The name of the botanist S. Brunner, who was the first to appreciate the delicate and refined beauty of the plant, its decorative potential, is immortalized in the name of the plant. Brunner's macrophile is a tracing paper of the Latin name, meaning that a plant with large leaves (large-leaved). It is also known under the name "forget-me-not", because it resembles the plant of the same name in flowering. Forget-me-not is usually listed in the Brunner's doubles list.

The main garden forms are valued not so much for small flowers, usually in a blue range, as for decorative heart-shaped leaves: variegated, variable shades.

  • "Variegata", blooming in early spring, with amazing resistance to unfavorable winter conditions. It is a shrub about 35 cm tall. Brunner's variegated is valued for its large leaves, framed with a light border, the ability to bloom within a month in spring and resume flowering again in warm autumn.
  • "Silver Hart" or "Silver Heart", the antonym of variegated. This variety has light leaves, which are bordered by a narrow green stripe. A very spectacular bush in visualization, reaching a height of 40-50 cm. It is especially beautiful in May, when soft blue flowers bloom above the leaves, dotted with decorative green wrinkles.
  • Looking Glass - another large-leaved brunner. It is a relatively small bush, with a vertical rhizome and stems reaching a size of 40 cm. Paniculate blue inflorescences are not the only decoration of the plant. The leaves are especially beautiful, reaching 25 cm in length, light green, with a marble pattern on the entire leaf surface. They are slightly pubescent and gray underneath.
  • Varietal variegated "Hudspan Cream" resembles other varieties in description. Also a winter-hardy variety with marble leaves, up to 30 cm high.
  • Another kind of "Millennium Zilber", with the largest leaves, a feature of which is large silvery spots on the surface of a rich green color.

Mixborders, curbs, rockeries, embossed gardens and alpine slides, not counting flower beds and front gardens, excellent compatibility with other decorative common cultures - fern and hornbeam. The forget-me-not will come in handy in any low place with high humidity and shade, where it is difficult to grow other crops.

It is good to use this variety in inconvenient, northern areas, achieving excellent results and not spending much time on care and agricultural technology.

Features of brunner siberian

Typical representatives of the Burachnikov family are called Siberian forget-me-not flower growers. Its characteristic features can be included in the general description, with some reservations in relation to individual species:

  • it is a herbaceous perennial, which is, as it were, a cover of the soil;
  • it spreads on its own, preventing weeds from germinating;
  • in the middle of the warm season, the leaves dry out, but they reappear by autumn;
  • heart-shaped leaves can be from 10 to 20 cm in size;
  • the stem grows in height from a quarter of a meter to 70 cm;
  • calling the flowers small, they exaggerate somewhat - they can reach 1 cm in diameter, collected in spectacular inflorescences of bright blue color;
  • the plant forms a nut-fruit that has no nutritional value;
  • the horizontally located rhizome has adventitious roots;
  • Brunner grows densely on the soil surface, a continuous cover is obtained at a height of up to 50 cm.

This type of brunner is considered medicinal, it is used to relieve fever in inflammation, and also as a mild laxative. For medicinal purposes, leaves and inflorescences are used, they are harvested, collected during the flowering period, and dried. Recommended as an unpretentious perennial plant with excellent properties for the middle zone and the North-West region of Russia.

However, it is also loved in the south for the ability to grow in the shade, on the north side, under trees, in places where it is difficult to cultivate more demanding plants.

In the wild, as the name suggests, it grows in Siberia, in meadows and edges of deciduous forests and taiga, near natural reservoirs. RReproduction can be carried out by dividing the rhizome or by seeds. Seeds are planted before winter in open ground or in spring, after stratification. Using the rhizome allows you to get the desired flowering as early as the next year after planting.

Brunner oriental and its varieties

A species that is considered not widespread in Russia due to its inherent heat-loving and demanding care. Some sources indicate that only two of the three known ones are used in cultural cultivation, however, flower growers love all three species and are engaged in them, if climatic conditions permit.

Drying of foliage, which occurs after spring flowering, is considered a significant disadvantage of the Siberian variety. The flower bed looks bare for a month and a half. Macrophila is very popular, despite the shallow flowering - its leaves are decorative throughout the warm season, until the onset of frost.

Eastern Brunner is a little-known and undeveloped species that is found in the wild in Turkey, Palestine and Lebanon. It can rarely be found in Israel.

According to the description in botanical sources, the eastern brunner is inconspicuous, of low height. It is rarely used in landscape design precisely for this reason, and not because it is demanding on conditions, although it is distinguished by a love of warmth, judging by its habitat.

It was possible to find information that breeders tried to remove more decorative species from Brunner Orientalis, but this did not lead to the emergence of successful hybrids. If in southern countries it can be found in landscape design, then only in its original form. Moreover, she:

  • very much like an uncultured forget-me-not;
  • differs in small, pubescent leaves;
  • the flowers are collected in small, loose inflorescences and are themselves tiny in size;
  • abundant dark shoots can be seen at the base of the plant.

In publications about a plant that has received many affectionate names - from forget-me-not to blue-eyed, the decorativeness inherent in the large-leaved Brunner varieties is certainly mentioned. Leaves of different diameters, white-blue flowers, silvery, light or dark green leaves are often mentioned. The whimsical nature, together with breeders, has brought out an excellent option for designers and beauty lovers.

These plants can ennoble the most problematic places - shaded and wet, under fruit trees. Silver Hut grows under the scorching rays of the sun. This variety is undemanding to the soil. Kings Ranson leaves a stunning impression with light leaves with dark emerald veins, without covering or shading the rest of the plants, because it reaches a height of only 20 cm.

Ease of reproduction, resistance to cold, decorativeness, shade tolerance and unpretentious care - these are just some of the reasons why brunner has become so widespread among gardeners in Europe, Asia and Russia.

You can plant it in spring or autumn, but with seeds it will not come out so quickly, so it is better to purchase rhizomes and facilitate your hard work.
