Loft style wall lamp
Wall lamps are used very often in the interior. Models in the style of "retro" or "vintage" have long been popular, and not so long ago, a style called "loft" came into fashion. The newfangled trend has come to us from American urban areas with high ceilings, former abandoned factories and factories converted into housing.
Such an interior is preferred by successful creative people under the age of 40. It is characterized by the presence of deliberately rough, raw concrete walls, metal or wooden beams and floors, external electrical wiring, wooden or metal furniture and a minimum of details in the room. Spacious rooms with high ceilings and huge windows create an atmosphere of lightness and airiness.
Indoor light
The huge floor space and high ceilings, of course, require proper lighting. The light should be as functional as possible and meet the following requirements:
- There should be a lot of light. Multiple light sources create a spacious atmosphere.
- Spot lights add comfort to isolated areas.
- Extraordinary lamps will not only focus on interior elements in an industrial style, but will also show the non-triviality of the design.
- Lighting must comply with all sanitary and hygienic standards.
History of origin
The French name "bra" (bras), firmly rooted in Soviet reality, means "hand" in translation. Having made simple logical conclusions, it can be assumed that this concept includes lamps, which are “within easy reach”.
The history of sconces began in the 17th century. It was then that they began to be widely used to illuminate rooms. Even modern manufacturers could envy the assortment of materials from which the sconces were made by the masters of that time. These are various metals (mainly copper and bronze), and Venetian glass, and precious woods.
As for the execution, the sconces were similar to the chandeliers and candlesticks in the room. This line is also popular in modern design, especially in the loft style.
Features of placement and materials used
When should you install a sconce? The answer to this question is simple enough - always.
A sconce can provide absolutely any room with the very zest that was not there before it was installed. Since the main function of a sconce is to create additional lighting, it just needs to be installed near mirrors, works of art, above frames with photographs, etc.
In addition, sconces are absolutely indispensable near or above the bed, especially for lovers of evening reading.
If the corridor or hallway is not very large, then several sconces can completely replace a chandelier. Sconces are also useful when you need to create an intimate setting. Or focus on any area in the room. The sconce itself can be a decoration of the room and not be used at all for lighting purposes.
Like everything in the loft style interior, most wall lamps are distinguished by their simplicity of lines and minimalism in design. However, sometimes you can also observe massive, crystal-decorated models.
The material used to make the lamps is durable plastic, clear or frosted glass, chrome-plated steel, and even concrete.
DIY lamps
If you are a lover of minimalism and are the proud owner of a loft-style apartment, then these master classes are for you.
Concrete lamp
It takes just two hours to make a concrete lamp.
For a lampshade you will need:
- Cement mixture. You can also use concrete paint.
- Wire with a quality switch. Choose the strongest wire that can support the weight of the concrete lamp. It is advisable to thread the wire into a metal chain.
- Cartridge.
- Tube and set of nuts.
- Fastening materials.
- Two plastic bottles of different diameters. A larger container can be two liters, preferably without a pattern and dents, as this will be imprinted on the lampshade. And the second one should be so large that the lamp holder can fit there.
Note that narrow and long interior space will make it much more difficult to replace burnt out lamps.
- Bulb.
- Capacity for mixing cement mortar.
- Various tools at hand: wire cutters, knife, drill, trowel for stirring the cement mixture, scissors.
Manufacturing Guide:
- The first step is to cut off the bottom of the large plastic bottle.
- Drill not very large holes in the covers exactly in the middle (it is more convenient to do this when the covers are on).
- Secure the tube to the cap of the bottle below.
- Attach the top bottle to it, so that the bottles do not move, secure them with self-tapping screws.
- Dilute the concrete and fill out the form. Shake the bottle or tamp with a stick to ensure a tight concrete fill.
- Remove the screws and shape the edge.
- After the concrete is partially dry, carefully remove the bottles. Be careful not to damage the composition.
- After complete drying, treat the surface with special emery paper. Connect the wire to electricity.
Wood option
It is also possible to make an unusual lamp for a bathroom decorated in the "loft" style. The size of the luminaire itself, as well as the number of lamps, may vary depending on the size of the room.
Necessary materials:
- Pine board (in this example 0.8 meters for the three-lamp model).
- Bars for creating a groove in the wire.
- Three ½ flanges.
- Three ½ threaded tubes.
- Three ½ x ¾ elbow fittings.
- Cartridge - 3 pieces.
- The wire.
- Hex head bolts - 12 pcs.
- Self-tapping screws - 12 pieces.
- Light bulbs.
- Wood varnish.
- Wood glue.
Manufacturing instruction:
- Adjust the planks and planks. It is necessary to apply glue to the blocks and press them to the base. Remove excess glue and allow to dry.
- Paint bolts and other fasteners to the desired color.
- Insert the cartridge into the ¾ hole of the elbow fitting, add glue for a stronger connection. Complete drying occurs in 24 hours.
- The front and side of the base must be varnished. To achieve a matte effect, immediately after varnishing, wipe the base with a dry cloth. Repeat the procedure several times until you achieve the desired effect.
- Drill a hole for the wires.
- Screw the flanges to the base.
- Route the wiring and assemble the structure. It is necessary to use a parallel wiring diagram. This is convenient, because if one bulb burns out, the rest will be on.
- Hang up the light and connect to electricity. Screw in the bulbs and enjoy.
Tin can model: a master class for men
Warmth and comfort, as a rule, suit women, but there are real men who have both right hands. They know how to do wonderful things with these hands.
Coziness in your house, which is made in the loft interior, can be a reward for your husband if he takes the tools in hand and turns on his imagination. By the way, many men know how to draw, and make chasing or carving wonderful works of wood. We offer a good idea for a wall lamp that only men can handle.
The job of making this wall lamp model requires only effort and inspiration. You can always find an empty can of tomato paste, condensed milk or beer. The main thing is to prepare a place for work, so that it is convenient.
The jar needs to be washed. Then put a block of wood inside so that you can then punch the wall of the can with a nail.
The most important thing is to choose a pattern for the lamp. It is this pattern that will be displayed around when you put a candle or insert a lamp into the lamp.
From above, the jar needs to be painted either dark or some bright color, so that such lamps from tin cans look attractive during the day and in the evening. The paint can be taken in an aerosol, or you can apply ordinary oil paint with a brush to our lamp.
Beautiful highlights will create a fabulous environment in your room. Imagine how pleasant it will be to sit next to your beloved on a cool evening, wrapped in a warm blanket, huddled together, with hot tea, and admire a modern lamp made for you by your loved one.
With a kettlebell, such a loft-style wall lamp will look even more original.
Basically, they are made with a switch on the body. It will be more convenient. Also, cans can be attached unpainted, which will also be very original.
