Choosing a grab for the curb

The curb grab is used in construction. The device reduces the level of injuries, improves the productivity and accuracy of placing the stone on the concrete mix. There are different types of grippers, which differ in their mechanisms. The right choice will make the installation of the curbstone as fast and comfortable as possible.

A curb grip is especially necessary when arranging various zones. It is simply impossible to imagine roads and flower beds without curbs. When decorating garden areas, a light stone of a small size is usually used. In most cases, it is moved manually. However, the curb grab will allow the material to be placed on the mortar more evenly and accurately.

To install a heavy stone weighing more than 100 kg, additional tools are required. A worker cannot lift such a curb on his own. It is these sections that are used in the arrangement of the roadway. When producing a curb, the pace of work is of great importance.

Moving large stones can lead to injury for workers. In this case, a grip is required for installation. The tool can also come in handy for working with other similar material. The clamp can be used manually or in tandem with machinery and equipment.

Mechanical ones have a hydraulic drive, they are used for side stone of large size and weight. Hand forceps differ in the structure of the ticks themselves. The length of the lever and the shape of the jaws affects how much force must be applied to achieve a certain pressure on the material.

The typical grip for carrying and mounting is carried out even with little mechanization. With the articulated forceps, this process becomes especially easy. The equipment works quite simply, no special skills are required. In this case, beginners also cope with laying the curb.

Such a gripper-trap consists of two L-like levers, gripping jaws with elastic inserts, a central axis and fixing fingers. There are also two double arm brackets. The principle of operation is quite simple: any fastener is connected to the central axis, for example, a hook or a link. It is enough to lift it for the levers to move to the upper position. As a result, the jaws converge at the ends of the material.

The arms of the mechanism can be different. The angle of capture, and hence the possibilities, depends on this characteristic.

There are also other types of designs.

• Easy grip. Allows curb stones to be placed instead of moving them. The construction is without brackets, the clamp is made only by human force. The levers are closed by turning the pliers. If the gripping arc is 40-45 cm, then the device itself weighs 5-6 kg. It is used for working with stone weighing no more than 200 kg.

• Hydraulic. The clamp has maximum functionality. Used for road works with various materials. Absolutely everything that is used in the arrangement of the road can be lifted with this tool. It can even be used to transport gutters, floor slabs. The length of the element should be up to 1 m, weight - no more than 120-150 kg. The mechanism can be used with any equipment, even with a wheeled tractor, mini-excavator. Power is supplied by the hydraulic system. It is worth considering the peculiarities of use for road works.First, the forceps are applied to the stone, then the guides should be extended along the length. It is important to arrange the clamps symmetrically so as not to inadvertently break the material. The rotator must be connected to the equipment. For closing, you need liquid, it is gradually injected with the help of a piston. Depending on the characteristics of the curb, a certain pressure is achieved. Then you should stop the fluid supply and move the stone to the right place on the loader.

• Capture tandem. The name speaks for itself. Such an instrument is intended to be used in pairs. Works on the principle of longitudinal grip. The pliers close on the stone at the ends. Such a tool itself is quite heavy, it can weigh 12-15 kg. At the same time, it allows you to mount blocks up to 200 kg. The tool is an alternative to lateral holding. The front part of the curbstone is completely safe, the risk of accidental damage is excluded.

• ZKB. This is how the most popular tool is marked. The models are used exclusively in tandem with hoisting machines. A distinctive feature is the mounting ring. You just need to lift the forceps so that the power cheeks slam shut. The fixing forces depend solely on the weight of the stone. Used for mounting heavy curbs.

• ZKBS. It is used for loading operations, placing blocks on pallets, when servicing warehouses. The tongs are capable of holding large curbstones by the end pieces. For use, equipment with a large load capacity is required.

Tongs are a must for the curb. Even if the stones are small, then such a device will allow you to lay all the elements as evenly and accurately as possible. If the road zone is being set up, then the tongs are combined with the technique.

Important nuances of choice.

1. The classic gripper is used in cases when it is necessary to move and mount stones weighing up to 40 kg alone.
2. A simple grip is necessary when carrying out work for a smoother and more accurate installation, especially if installation of a long structure is planned.
3. The hydraulic gripper is especially useful for complex road works. The tool allows you to work with different materials, so it is very practical.
4. If one unit weighs more than 100 kg, then hand tools cannot be used. You will need a mechanized model paired with a suitable machine. At home, such curb stones are used extremely rarely - there is simply no need for them.
5. Pairing pliers with L-shaped clip will allow for minimal clearance. It should be used for styling. But with a Z-shaped clip, it is suitable for moving especially heavy curb stones from place to place.
6. ZKBS is not used for installation. Too much clearance will form between the curb sections. The tool is intended only for transporting large and weighty parts.
