How to attach the hose to the barrel?

A dry summer or early fall is a time when gardeners have to take extra care of their gardens. Due to the lack of sufficient moisture in the soil, plants may even die. In this case, own supplies of water for irrigation come to the rescue, but they also have to be replenished from time to time. Standing next to the barrel until it is full to make sure the hose does not fall out is long and uncomfortable. For this, there are not only special devices, but also the creations of folk craftsmen, which all gardeners and truck farmers should know about.

Of course, the easiest way is to get a reliable device for your garden hose that will keep it from falling out of the barrel. They are usually small plastic or metal clips that allow you to attach it directly to the edge or wall of the barrel. So even with a strong pressure of water, it will not slip out of the holder. Their price ranges from 150 to 500 rubles, depending on the quality of the material from which the device is made, and the manufacturer.

A holder for a washing machine hose is also suitable for such purposes. Attach the hose to the plastic "horseshoe" on both sides, and simply hang it on the edge of the barrel. Thanks to reliable clips, even a dense hose is unlikely to fall out of such a holder, but problems with its diameter can arise.

However, there is often no need to buy additional devices, because you can make a simple retainer with your own hands from improvised things that everyone has in the country.

One of the most common homemade hose retention options is the metal bracket.

1. With the help of electrical tape 15-20 cm from the end of the hose, a U-shaped bracket is fixed. If you can't find one, you can use a long nail by bending it into a similar shape.

2. A wooden or metal post is driven in near the barrel, the thickness of which must be sufficient so that the bracket on the hose can be put on it. In height, the column should be 7-10 cm above the edge of the barrel, so that the bracket does not slide off with a strong pressure of water.

3. Now, if necessary, to fix the hose, it is enough to direct it into the barrel - and put the bracket on the holder.

And also on the inside of the barrel you can attach a hook or loop. The main condition is that the diameter allows a hose to pass through it. As a hook, you can use, for example, an old doorknob or a metal or plastic corner. Then it will be possible to fix the hose without any additional manipulations, simply by hooking the hose onto the hook or by inserting it into the loop.

Sometimes a situation arises when you need to attach the hose urgently, and there is no time to search for additional materials for this. In this case, experienced gardeners have several proven methods.

1. Take a small board or sturdy stick and place it on top of the barrel. Tie the hose around it in a knot, but do not overtighten or break it. Dip the end into the barrel.

2. The hose, previously lowered into the barrel, can be pressed from above with a board or a lid, if your barrel has one.

No one is immune from unforeseen situations, but it is better to take care of such problems in advance by choosing the most comfortable mounting method.
