What can be made from a barrel?

Often, on their site, homeowners equip their territory so that it is comfortable not only to work and perform some useful manipulations on it, but also to relax. A wide variety of objects are used to decorate the adjoining area, even those that seem to have served their time for a long time. Today we will consider what can be made from a barrel.

If you have a 200 liter barrel, there is a great chance to make a smokehouse with your own hands and enjoy delicious homemade products.

Before starting work, you need to prepare for yourself at least rough drawings. It's not difficult at all. It is only necessary to designate all the parts of which the structure will consist. And each owner for himself also decides for himself - whether it will be an ordinary barrel or, with a special design, this structure will also become a decoration of the site.

It is most reasonable to make a combined smokehouse, in which you can make cold and hot smoked products. To do this, you need a regular barrel, slightly sunk into the ground. A hole should be made in one of the walls, which will be connected to the chimney located in the stove. Many people cover the smokehouse with bricks. Hooks and grates are installed inside the barrel for hanging and unfolding products, and a tray is also placed at the bottom for dripping fat. For convenience, they make a window, complement the design with a thermometer, so that you can regulate the cooking process.

If you still want to make separate types, it is worth considering what is the difference between the design for hot and cold smoking.

In a hot smoking smokehouse, the product is exposed to high temperatures, up to 120 degrees, while fish or meat can be cooked in just 4 hours.

It should be borne in mind that the distance from the firebox to the products themselves should be within 30-40 cm. It is optimal for the products to be cooked without burning and excessive smoking. Special hooks, grate and pallet are required. The barrel will need to be regularly cleaned of soot.

A barrel for cold smoking is equipped in a slightly different way. The smoke should be at a fairly low temperature, within 40 degrees. Therefore, the chimney should be much longer than for hot smoking, about 3 meters. This will allow the smoke to cool as it passes through the chimney. It connects at one end to the barrel, and the other to the firebox. So that it does not interfere, it can be placed in the ground by digging a small trench for this.

For many craftsmen, wooden and metal barrels are not just objects that have served their time, but the basis for interesting things that will decorate the garden.

In all cases, tools will be needed to make crafts:

• axe;

• hammer;

• jigsaw;

• saw;

• chainsaw;

• screwdriver.

In each case, things such as paint, varnish, various decorative elements, depending on the idea, can be useful.

It's good if there are several unnecessary barrels lying around in the country. Then the whole composition can turn out.

You can make, for example, an airplane that will decorate the site, but for this you only need:

• old barrel;

• a pair of boards;

• wheels from an unnecessary wheelbarrow or stroller.

Barrel tables are also a very good solution. On a garden plot, such a table is simply irreplaceable. You can arrange dinners in the fresh air and store the necessary things. Of course, the structure will have to be treated with a special agent that will make the material resistant to moisture, then the product must be varnished to give it a complete look. From one barrel, cut in half, you can make two tables at once.

A little imagination - and even a completely comfortable soft chair can be built, you just need to upholster the seat and back with leather. With such chairs it is not a shame to receive guests on your own garden plot.

Many more useful items can be made from the barrel, which will look very organic in the country.

For example, a very nice washbasin can be built from an old, leaky wooden barrel. It will not be difficult for a craftsman to neatly attach a sink and the simplest mixer to the upper part, and cut a door at the bottom in order to remove a bucket of used water.

The barrel can even make an original swing seat. It is enough to cut the barrel in half, treat it with appropriate materials and put soft pillows inside.

Surprisingly, barrels can be widely used in both private houses and apartments. A true master can see and understand how from an old leaky barrel - no matter whether it is wooden, plywood or metal - you can make a real masterpiece and fit it into a certain style.

A barrel lamp is an original solution that will fit into the style of country, rustic, chalet and many others. By the way, there are a lot of manufacturing options. Here you need to rely on your imagination, or look at ready-made examples.

The easiest option is to saw off part of the barrel, attach chains, and place a light bulb inside. Very original and uncomplicated.

Even two compact barrels with lamps inside, suspended from the ceiling with chains, will look very interesting in a kitchen decorated with wooden surfaces.

An extremely unusual cabinet can be made from an iron barrel. It is enough to cut it so that one part will be directly a storage place for things, the other - a door. Inside, it is worthwhile to provide shelves, paint the entire structure in a color that will be combined with the interior of the room. Such solutions will be successful in rooms decorated in loft, minimalism, high-tech styles. And you can store anything in such a cabinet - even books and discs, even dishes. This design can also become a mini-bar.

To make a trash can from a barrel is as easy as shelling pears - both from a large iron and from a small wooden one. No special skills are required here. You just need to think over the design of the bucket and do not forget about the style of the room, which this bucket should correspond to:

• for example, it can be such a structure that contains enough debris, which at the same time looks catchy and bright;

• such a compact version is no worse and will fit into any, even the smallest space.

As for other things, in a room limited by the space of a house or apartment, a barrel can still serve:

• an original table;

• basket for storing linen;

• a tub for a large plant;

• a capacity for storing bottles of wine.

Making all these items does not even take a lot of time. It's just that the barrel itself should be treated with a special compound, varnished or painted.It is always worth starting with something very simple, and only then move on to more complex subjects.
