A gazebo with a fireplace: how to arrange it yourself?
Those who have a summer cottage have the opportunity to relax in the fresh air at any time of the year. The open street design of the gazebo is not suitable for this, because it does not provide reliable protection against various atmospheric influences. Many people prefer to opt for a closed winter gazebo with a fireplace, because it always remains cozy and warm. Let's figure out how to choose the most suitable project, how to equip such a structure on our own.
What is the difference?
Not everyone knows how a fireplace structure differs from a barbecue, barbecue or stove. Fireplaces are designed to provide warmth in rooms. They create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort. The fireplace can be described as similar to a barbecue oven, but its firebox is quite high. It is convenient to cook food in it on a special grid. In such a device there is also a grill, tandoor, smokehouse, oven.
Complexes combining several devices are on sale, but they cannot be used outdoors. There are barbecue fireplaces: such designs are chosen by people who want not only to provide warmth in the room with their help, but also to cook. With the help of the barbecue, you can cook meat using skewers intended for this. Such a device is visually similar to a box with legs. There are coals inside it, which allow you to achieve the desired effect.
Types
Fireplace designs are different. Let's consider the main types.
- Closed design. Such a fireplace is a good option for a brick gazebo in the country. To close the firebox, you can use a glass door that is resistant to low temperatures.
- Open fixture. These fireplaces are more decorative than any other. The lattice acts as a fence: everyone around can admire the bright fire.
Fireplaces are divided into several types, depending on the location.
Several varieties can be distinguished:
- Wall mounted. These fireplaces are leaning against the walls.
- Island. Such structures are located separately, they can be located in the center of the room. The flame in the firebox is clearly visible from each side.
- Built-in. Such devices seem to be right in the wall.
- Corner. Structures that belong to this type allow you to save space as much as possible, they are located as compactly as possible.
For gazebos, wall-mounted and built-in fireplaces are better suited. Usually, such a device is initially part of the project, so it is immediately attached to the main structure.
Stages of creation
If the owner of a summer cottage has the desire, time and perseverance, he may well be able to cope with the construction of a gazebo with a fireplace without the help of specialists. It will not be difficult to do such work on your own. However, in order to ultimately remain satisfied with the results, you need to take into account certain recommendations, ranging from planning and choosing tools, ending with finishing the structure.
How to plan?
First you need to create a detailed drawing. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the fire safety requirements, the norms of the current legislation. Particular attention must be paid to wooden structures.Such a gazebo must be protected with flame retardant additives.
It is not recommended to install appliances with fireplaces near greenhouses, as well as children's playgrounds.
If the fireplace is open, decide where to place it. Smoke should not interfere with the people who live in your neighborhood. There should be no trees, dry shrubs near the fireplace structure. To ensure safety, remember to keep an eye on the flames. In the event that the gazebo is made of wood, you need to take care of the safety of the residents themselves. Cover the floor in front of the fireplace with a galvanized sheet.
Tools, materials
If you want to ensure the maximum safety of people who will be in the gazebo, it is better to opt for a closed fireplace.
Prepare the following before construction work:
- finishing materials (stone, tile);
- gypsum composition;
- sand;
- chisel;
- container for mixing the solution;
- hammer;
- brick;
- clay;
- water;
- grinder;
- bayonet shovel;
- level;
- high temperature resistant glass;
- cement composition;
- trowel;
- welding device;
- jigsaw.
For a fireplace, it is better to use not cement, but clay mortar. Cement is not resistant to high temperatures.
Construction works
The gazebo must be built in a specific sequence, focusing on step-by-step instructions.
The main stages of construction work are as follows:
- foundation creation;
- masonry;
- creating a skeleton;
- work with the floor, roof, walls (if the gazebo is closed);
- finishing works, decoration.
Foundation
The fireplace is a rather heavy structure, so you need to take care that the base can withstand it. It is worth stopping the choice on a monolithic tape surface. Pegs of wood should be driven in along the perimeter: this will mark the territory. Then pull the rope between them. Dig a shallow trench (no more than 40 cm deep). Let it be located across and along the site.
You can fill the opening with broken brick or rubble. Fill it with water and tamp it thoroughly. Carry out the installation of the formwork, after which you can deal with concrete.
It should be borne in mind that the foundation must be completely dry: this usually takes about a week.
Masonry
If a reliable foundation has been created for the main structure, it is not at all necessary to make a separate foundation for the fireplace fixture. It is necessary to start creating a chimney and a firebox. Mix sand with clay in a ratio of one to three. The resulting solution should differ in plasticity and viscosity.
When doing masonry, it is worth considering some of the nuances:
- The seams should not be wider than 5 mm.
- If the width of the fireplace structure is equal to six brick elements, the depth should be at least three.
- The pedestal should be created using facing bricks.
- The chimney must be created exclusively from fire-resistant materials. It is recommended to use clay mortar.
- On the back wall of the chimney, you can make a smoke tooth. So you can lay out the thrust.
- Wrap an asbestos cord around the cast-iron frame of the glass door. Attach annealed wire to the corners of the door, hide it between the bricks.
- The walls of the chimney need to be made thicker where the chimney opens onto the roof. Thus, when the fireplace is in operation, the outside surface will not heat up.
All rows should be controlled using a building level for this. Otherwise, the structure may be skewed. When the fireplace is ready, wait a while (two weeks will suffice).
After that, you can try to heat it. Use straw or wood chips for this. The fire should burn no longer than 15 minutes.
Heat the fireplace for several days, repeat the procedure up to 10 times.If there is no condensation on a metal object previously located above the chimney, this means that the fireplace structure is completely dry.
Floor, frame and roof
The standard option is to use tiles, paving stones for the floor. With the ground, such coatings are located at the same level. The wooden floor needs to be made higher. The floor will consist of a sanded edged board. It is necessary to grind such a coating, apply varnish, antiseptic on it.
The frame can be created from the following materials:
- stone;
- brick;
- wood;
- metal profile.
To make the atmosphere natural and cozy, you should opt for wood or stone. An aluminum frame is a budget option. Such material is resistant to various weather conditions, corrosion, light weight. If the gazebo is closed, you can put a fireplace against a blank wall. So in the cold you will be much warmer.
Think about how best to position the doors and windows. To avoid a fire, do not install a wooden roof in a gazebo with a fireplace structure. In such cases, it is better to choose a frame made of metal with tiles, slate. A good option would be a professional sheet.
Communications, lighting
When choosing lighting fixtures for a gazebo, it is better to prefer point elements. If the space is small, two or three lighting devices will suffice. The wiring should be of the highest quality. You should choose wires that are reliably protected from exposure to liquids. Additional electrical appliances can be installed with electrical outlets. If there is a kitchen sink or washbasin in the gazebo, think about how best to drain the drain.
How to decorate?
The comfort and atmosphere in the gazebo depends on its interior design. You can decorate the fireplace structure using flagstone, savage stone, textured brick material. If the gazebo is closed, double-glazed windows can be used. They will create the illusion that you are in the fresh air, they will be able to provide protection from precipitation and wind.
You should not decorate a gazebo with a fireplace structure with plastic and synthetic materials. Otherwise, you will significantly increase the risk of fire. It is quite enough to create an atmosphere of comfort with the help of flame-resistant materials.
When deciding on the shape and style of the fireplace design, it is preferable to choose natural colors for the arrangement. They will blend well with the surroundings and the hearth.
Installation in a ready-made structure
If you do not want to spend money on construction work, constantly prepare firewood, smell the smoke, you can opt for a compact factory fireplace.
Several varieties are popular:
- Biofireplace. Such designs are quite unusual for consumers, but they are highly rated. Such fireplaces are environmentally friendly, they use vegetable fuel, from which there is no burning and smoke. You don't have to worry about installing the chimney. Bio fireplaces are suitable for a wide variety of environments.
- Gas. Inside such a structure, the fire appears from the gas, which is constantly supplied.
- Electric fireplace. This design is mains powered and does not require fuel. Such devices are relatively inexpensive, which makes them in demand among buyers.
Which option to opt for depends on your financial capabilities and preferences.
You can immediately order a gazebo with a fireplace.
The cost of the finished structure is influenced by the following factors:
- a kind of fireplace construction;
- type of gazebo (closed or open);
- the size of the building;
- type of finishing and basic materials;
- kind of foundation.
You may not purchase a standard fireplace, but order a structure for the interior according to a designer's sketch or your own drawing.For an individual project, you will have to pay a significant amount. When creating a gazebo with a fireplace structure with your own hands, you need to think over and calculate a variety of details. How quickly construction work will be carried out depends on the complexity of the project and the skill of the person who is involved in them.
