Any gardener working on the site, or a tourist going to the taiga, knows perfectly well how many troubles and problems insects can cause. Everyone copes with them as best they can. A lot of funds are on sale. But not everyone performs equally well. The use of birch tar from insects can be relevant both in the country, and in the forest, and even in an apartment.

Features of use

Birch tar is good for repelling insects in many cases. Its persistent, pungent smell repels mosquitoes, flies, midges and even ticks. Of course, such an aroma is not so pleasant for a person either. But when there are a large number of insects around, you don't have to choose, and tar is just a salvation.

It can be used in different ways: apply neat, dilute with water and other ingredients. The tar itself is also of different types, each of which has its own characteristics and features of use.

  • The fatty version is mostly used to protect plants from pests, to rid animals of insects. A person can also use this tool, but not often, since the oily film remaining on the skin is removed only after taking a shower with a lot of soap or gel.
  • Heavy tar has an even sharper odor and a rich texture. It is used to protect animals from blood-sucking insects.
  • Birch tar, sold in pharmacies, is used for medicinal purposes, for example, to treat skin diseases. It is also suitable for insect control, more adapted for the skin. But its smell is not so harsh.

It is often used in conjunction with other ingredients in various formulations.

How to dilute?

The easiest recipe is to make water-based birch tar. To do this, you need to take about 3 milliliters of the concentrated preparation and mix with one liter of water. Next, you need to treat the body with this liquid - and you can safely go outside. But such a remedy does not work for so long. Enough for gardening, but on a hike after 2 hours, the procedure must be repeated.

If there is no desire and time to treat the body completely, you can melt 100 grams of butter in a water bath and add a few drops of concentrated tar there. When the composition has cooled down, you need to apply it to certain areas of the body: neck, wrists, ankles - those places that are not covered by clothes. Such a composition will keep the smell longer and, therefore, act.

You can mix tar with any oil, for example, sunflower, olive oil, and apply in the same way. In addition, insect bites can be treated with such a composition, this will relieve itching and contribute to faster healing of the wound.

How to apply correctly?

Whichever method is chosen for breeding insect repellent, it must be used correctly. First of all, the solution must always be fresh. In addition, to repel mosquitoes and midges, you need to periodically repeat the procedure. The use of the product for the first time should begin with the fact that it is necessary to check whether there is any allergy to this type of protection from bloodsucking. To do this, you need to apply a drop of the product to your hand and wait a while. If the skin does not turn red, there is no itching, you can safely use the prepared composition or tar from the pharmacy in its pure form.

Most often, tar is used not in the house, but on the street because of the unpleasant smell. For a hike, you can prepare an alcoholic liquid by stirring 60 ml of alcohol and 30 ml of tar. Such a composition is poured into a bottle with a spray bottle and periodically sprayed onto clothes and open areas of the body. Various unforeseen and unpleasant situations occur on a tourist trip. Tar will come in handy here too. If, for example, a tick is found on the body, which has already sunk, you need to smear this place with birch tar of a strong concentration or mixed with oil - the tick must crawl out. Away from the city and medical centers, this method will help out, but the next day upon arrival in the city, you must definitely consult a doctor, and place the tick in a small container in order to take it for analysis.

There is another way that will help you sleep in a tent or sit in the fresh air, not paying attention to annoying insects. You can take a conifer cone, soak it in tar, dry it in the sun, and then set it on fire. This will replace the mosquito coil. The smoke from the cone with tar will scare away insects for a while and will allow you to enjoy all the delights of hiking conditions. As for the use of tar in the apartment, then, if no other means were found, you can also use tar. The instructions for use are quite simple. You still need to prepare a solution of tar with water and spray on the windows. This will keep mosquitoes away, but the procedure will need to be repeated.

Another option is to take a concentrated solution, soak thin strips of fabric with it and spread it along the windowsill. Insects are susceptible to such aromas and will definitely not fly into the apartment. True, the smell will be present at home, but here you really need to choose the lesser of two evils. Another way is to simply pour tar into the lid (for example, from under a can or any bubble) and place it on the windowsill. And it is better to place several such containers there. For some time, insects will fly around the side of the window.

Advice

Despite the fact that tar can be bought at the pharmacy, some seek to obtain the product at home. And this is also possible. In this case, the bark is collected at the beginning of summer, placed in an iron bucket, and covered with a steel lid with holes on top. The bucket is heated over a fire for 2 hours. Further, the resulting composition is also diluted with water, alcohol or oil, depending on which method of application is chosen. There are a few more tips to follow when applying tar. In addition to the fact that you should not experiment on people suffering from various allergic reactions, you should not use this remedy on children.

But at the same time, using an insect control agent, you can solve a number of other problems. For example, going to the garden for work related to the care of trees and other plants, you can also treat them with a tar composition. It will benefit them. To do this, it is enough to pour liquid with tar into a container with a spray bottle. The same liquid can be used to treat the body to protect it from insects. She is also good at handling plants that will be protected from a wide variety of pests. And if the disease has already overtaken trees and shrubs, then this is an excellent means of pest control.

By treating mosquito bites with tar or protecting yourself from them, you can solve the problem of skin diseases. Do not forget that on hot summer days, pets also suffer from insect bites - the same cats and dogs, as well as horses and cows. In this case, you can spray the pets with a diluted solution. As for cats and dogs, it is enough to put on a collar treated with a tar composition. Cows and horses can simply have their tails and ears trimmed. In all cases of using a composition where the component is birch tar, you need to remember that you do not need to overdo it. This tool can be used in combination or on condition of alternation with other components.

But in the case when there are no other means at hand, birch tar can provide invaluable help - the main thing is to observe all precautions, to properly dilute a highly concentrated solution.
