Rooftop pool views and tips for setting up
The most popular vacation is considered to be near water bodies, because there you can not only enjoy the coolness on hot summer days, but also swim in clear water. To do this, many owners of private houses allocate a place on their personal plot for arranging a small pool. If the square meters of the summer cottage do not allow this, then an alternative solution would be to build a pool on the roof of the house.
Advantages and disadvantages
The swimming pool on the roof of a private house is considered an interesting design idea that allows you to give the architectural structure a modern look and get an additional relaxation area. The main advantages of such pools include:
- saving land area, which is especially important for owners of small summer cottages;
- reducing the cost of using electrical energy (in summer, the water on the roof quickly heats up from the sun);
- a unique opportunity to regularly take water procedures, while relaxing in the country, without interrupting trips to the city pool or to the beach;
- original rest not only for all family members, but also for guests and friends;
- the opportunity to increase the value of real estate when selling.
As for the shortcomings, they also exist. The project of a pool on the roof of a private house requires careful study, since it is important to take into account all technical and sanitary standards. In addition, it is necessary to correctly calculate the load on the supporting structure of the building, as well as think over the installation of a system for supplying water, its filtration and disinfection.
How are they arranged?
Projects with pools on the roofs of houses have recently been very popular, as they open up great opportunities to enjoy a beach holiday without leaving the building. The only thing is that before including the pool in the construction project, it is necessary to carefully make all the calculations, taking into account the peculiarities of its structure. Despite the fact that the shapes and sizes of such pools may be different, they all work on the same principle, which is to use a water supply and filtration system.
Typically, standard designs consist of the following components:
- reservoir (bowl) for filling with water;
- heat exchanger;
- pumps (filtration and water supply);
- water filters;
- water pipes.
The main task of this system is the constant circulation of water, which from the reservoir goes into special filters, then it is heated, purified and returned. Many rooftop pools do not have a heating function, as in the summer the water is instantly heated by the sun.
Varieties
To build a pool on the roof of a country house, you can choose any type of construction, it is only important to take into account the load factor on the base of the building and the entire supporting system. Seasonal outdoor pools, which can be used exclusively during the warm season, have become widespread. If you plan to spend time in the pool all year round, then it is best to choose closed structures equipped with a glass roof. In addition, designs may differ in the type of installation.
Inflatable
This type of pool is great for children, as it is made of flexible polyethylene, durable and has soft walls. Adults, on the other hand, should choose inflatable pools with a bowl over 3 m in diameter and 50 to 120 cm deep. The main advantage of such structures is that they are easily placed on the roof and quickly removed. The disadvantage is that during inflation, such pools can stretch, deform and undergo punctures (cuts), the bowl is filled manually from a hose. Besides, inflatable structures must be installed on a flat, soft surface.
Wireframe
This type of pool consists of an elastic bowl (reservoir), a strong frame and various auxiliary elements (ladders, fixtures). Such structures are characterized by high practicality, they do not require frequent repairs. Plus frame pools - ease of installation (they quickly assemble and disassemble), versatility (can be placed on the roof and on the personal plot), durability (the service life is usually up to 10 years), profitability (do not require additional costs for the arrangement). There are no downsides.
Stationary
This type of pool is rarely chosen for rooftop installation. Stationary structures are both surface and built-in. The first type is placed on the roof, after raising the structure to a certain height. The second differs in the depth of the bowl, so built-in pools require a lot of free space for installation. They are built from bricks, foam blocks or monolithic concrete, using high-quality insulation and special waterproofing material.
Stationary structures are characterized by durability (they are built only once), reliability in operation, practicality (undemanding in maintenance). Disadvantage - before installing stationary pools (closed type), you need to carefully consider the ventilation system. In addition, the construction of these structures is expensive.
Arrangement
A rooftop pool requires a certain arrangement, which begins with the laying of pipes for the supply and discharge of water. Great attention should be paid to the quality of sealing of all joints, this will help to avoid problems with flooding in the future. For pools of a stationary type, it is recommended prepare a separate drain pit and water supply system in advance. If a pool with a large bowl is installed, then the construction of a staircase should be provided... This will facilitate the process of launching and exiting the water.
The finishing of the structure must be done with a practical material, most often porcelain stoneware tiles, mosaics or ceramics are chosen. These materials are moisture resistant and durable. Finishing must be done after installing thermal insulation, using a special film and sheet roofing material. For plumbing, it is recommended to purchase plastic pipes with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm (for drains) and 5 to 6 cm (for supply).
Beautiful examples
Today there are many projects of houses with a rooftop pool, each with a different design and price. The idea of installing a pool with a transparent roof has become widespread, since a covered structure is more practical. It can be used all year round and the water is protected from climatic precipitation and debris. Reinforced corrugated glass in delicate shades is well suited for roof finishing. The design will be complemented by beautiful garden furniture decorated with fabric pillows and a hedge made of indoor plants.
It will look good on the roof and an open-type pool under a small canopy. The only thing is that when installing it, it is important to correctly design the location of the pipes and carry out their insulation and sealing. If you connect a heating system, then you can swim in such a pool all year round. In this case, it will be necessary to additionally arrange sliding screens around the perimeter of the entire structure, and inside the resulting recreation area to finish with pine boards and natural stone.The finishing touch to the design will be a swing chair, it should be placed in the foreground next to ornamental shrubs.
