How to make a pool from a sea container?
Modern designers, in search of new ideas for the construction of swimming pools, turned their attention to shipping containers. These products have long been widely used not only for their intended purpose - for the transportation of goods, but also as houses in summer cottages. Some build multi-storey buildings from them. Now the time has come for containers to serve in a new incarnation - a pool.
This solution minimizes the customer's costs in the construction of a recreation and entertainment area on a suburban area.
Advantages and disadvantages
As a coin has two sides, there are positive and negative sides to choosing a sea container as your home bathing tank. The advantages of this choice include the following points.
- Reliability and durability. Since this container is manufactured at the factory and is intended for long journeys, during which it is exposed to various atmospheric influences, it is made of high-quality metal with a thickness of at least 3 mm. The service life will be quite long.
- Quite low price. These containers are produced in large quantities, it will not be difficult to acquire them.
- Convenience during transportation. Cargo boxes are made in large sizes and are easily delivered to the customer by road. And if necessary, it is possible to move the pool to another place.
- Speed and ease of installation. It is enough to level the platform and the pool can be installed.
- Additional features. If the client wishes, there is the option of installing side windows and partitions inside the reservoir. In one part, you can make a pool, and in the second, a jacuzzi. There is a place for a talented designer to roam - the field for experimentation is quite large.
There are also negative sides: the need for a spacious and level area, a fairly decent weight of the container and the need to constantly monitor the anti-corrosion condition.
Views
To build an exclusive pool from a sea container, the imagination of the installer and the customer will be needed, but these types of domestic reservoirs from transport containers are most often used.
- On piles. Most often, ponds are placed on flat areas, but if you allow the possibility of placement on a slope, then you can get a wonderful place for relaxation with an excellent view in all directions. The tank should be installed on vertically standing logs (piles), the upper ends of which, after digging into the ground, should have a perfectly flat plane. When choosing piles, it is imperative to be guided by the weight that they will hold during operation. They must be very reliable, as on average a container can hold up to 70 cubic meters of water.
- Ground reservoir. It doesn't take much effort to install the tank on a horizontal surface. You just need to remove a layer of soil, use sand to make an even pillow and install a metal container on it. For a more presentable appearance, you can overlay the pool with stone or other cladding materials of your choice.
- To partially or completely dig in. This is the most time consuming installation method. You will need to dig a large enough foundation pit. It will not be easy to do it manually, you need a technique. After the excavator digs a hole of the required depth and volume, a sand cushion is made at its bottom, a container is lowered onto it. The remaining gaps between the walls are filled with the remaining soil from earthworks. The surface of the ground around the pool can be covered with gravel, pebbles or sand.
Manufacturing process
The most common type of transport box used for swimming pool applications is a 40 'container. It holds almost 68 cubic meters of life-giving moisture. With its length of 12 m and a depth of 2.3 m, it is convenient for adults and children to swim in it. There are other options as well, such as a 20-foot one. It holds 2 times less water, but it is perfect for small areas.
To make a pool from a sea container with your own hands, you will need a metal box itself. - it can be purchased both new and used, which will be much cheaper. Then you need to deliver it to the work site. And this will not be difficult, since all containers have standard dimensions and are easily delivered to the place by road transport of appropriate carrying capacity.
After delivery, the metal box is cut, the upper part is cut off. This can be done with any available cutting tool. The next step is to cut out and install a window in the side wall, if there is a desire and opportunity. If you are installing an elongated model of a shipping container, then you should take care of the longitudinal bridges, since the container can "lead" from a significant weight and volume of water.
When using a piled or outdoor method of installing pools, you need to make a ladder to get into the tank. You also need a ladder in order to get out of the reservoir after swimming. For a dug-in pool, you only need an internal staircase.
External and internal ladders must be securely attached to the wall.
In the event that the walls of a home reservoir rise above the ground, they can be decorated with various facade materials, but it is worth remembering that then the cost will increase, and sometimes significantly. After installation and welding, you can start painting. The inner surface of the tank is painted with a special waterproof paint. It is also possible to lay ceramic tiles to improve the hygienic properties of the water, however, this will require additional financial impact.
If you wish, you can mount a jacuzzi. For this, the grooves of a special lintel are mounted, which will separate the hydromassage compartment from the rest of the pool. If desired, this partition can be easily dismantled and the entire tank can be combined.
Operation and care
Once the pool is installed, it will always require regular maintenance. During the use of the tank, you will have to change the water from time to time; it is better to take care of a reliable pumping system in advance. It will be necessary to remove debris and treat the inner surface with disinfectants after draining the water. It is also worth monitoring the presence or absence of corrosion on the walls of the tank.
With the onset of cold weather, it is better to preserve the pool, drain the water and cover with an awning.
As you can see, a reservoir from a shipping container is an excellent choice. It can be made in one day at a reasonable cost.
