Beautiful projects of baths from a bar
The happy owners of private houses often do not stop at home improvement and the local area, many of them need a bathhouse for a full and comfortable life outside the city or in the country. The bathhouse is an integral part of our culture.
Our ancestors spent hours in the steam room every Saturday after a hard work week. Contemporaries are not ready to change this tradition for anything. And rightly so, because bath procedures expel depression and fatigue, temper health and give incredible sensations.
Peculiarities
When building a bath, the following factors should be considered:
- the number of main visitors (members of private households, frequent visitors);
- the number of required functional rooms (dressing room, steam room, relaxation room, washing room, terrace);
- the number of levels in the bath.
The future layout and calculation of material for construction depends on these conditions.
Frequently designed options: 3 by 4, 6 by 4, and the likee. Since the square meters of the site are not so extensive, the owners often have to sacrifice the size of the bath in favor of the house.
Varieties and variants
Consider projects from the smallest to the most spacious and their possible layout options:
- 3x3 m... Even in such a tiny bathhouse, a washing room and a steam room 1.5 by 1.5 m, as well as a spacious rest room 3 by 1.5 m, will fit well.
- 3x4 m... A project that fits a fairly spacious steam room and dressing room. The latter, in this case, serves as both a dressing room and a resting place at the same time. Often you can find it in this area of \ u200b \ u200bthe baths in the country.
- 3x5 m... Already a more spacious layout: a large relaxation room, a spacious steam room and even a place for a shower.
- 3x8 m... Elongated layout, reminiscent of a suite. Everything starts from the terrace, then the dressing room, relaxation room, shower room, steam room follow.
- 4x4 m... Another small project, but it is already capable of accommodating a separate washing room, in addition to a relaxation room and a steam room.
- 4x5 m... In the layout of this bath, preference is given to a spacious steam room, but a lot of space remains for a relaxation room.
- 5x5 m... A large relaxation room allows you to receive a significant number of guests. It is characterized by the optimal dimensions of the steam room and a small space for the shower.
- 6x3 m... In this project, the space is divided into a relaxation room and a steam room. A small vestibule is also provided so as not to let heat out of the room.
- 6x4 m... The layout allows you to attach an attic, which provides additional opportunities for relaxation. It can also be seen in the drawing that the washing room, along with the steam room, have become quite spacious, and the rest room opens up opportunities to accommodate more visitors.
- 6x6 m... A two-storey sauna with a large lounge in the attic on 2 floors, a shower and a toilet, a steam room on the ground floor. Such a plan quite claims to be a summer guest house.
Armed with standard plans, you can build a bathhouse with a veranda and a swimming pool.
In the case of limited finances, it is worth stopping at one-story projects of a small footage: 3x4, 3x6 or 4x6. These optimal plans are easy to do with your own hands.
Types of timber
For the construction of a bath, the most preferred material is timber.
This is due to a number of reasons:
- due to the strict geometry of the parts, the material fits easily, and the construction time is reduced;
- natural material is made of natural wood, which makes it environmentally friendly and recommended for allergy sufferers;
- retains heat on its own, but if necessary, it is enough just to perform additional thermal insulation;
- this material evens out the moisture level well;
- gives low shrinkage compared to a solid log;
- does not lend itself to linear deformation and noticeable cracking;
- has resistance to fire, moisture, decay, mold;
- the cost of additional raw materials for finishing is excluded, since the timber is a completely self-sufficient building material.
There are several types of timber:
- Planed... It is produced by cutting wood logs for wall decoration with a width of 150-200 millimeters. One of the inexpensive types, however, due to the fact that the material is made from wood with a natural level of moisture, it cracks rather quickly, gives in to deformation and significant shrinkage. In addition, this view has geometry flaws, which, in turn, disrupts the work with docking. And upon completion of construction, additional insulation is required.
- Profiled... In order to give it the correct geometry and precise dimensions, it undergoes special processing. This provides a significant installation advantage. Due to the significantly low level of moisture (22 percent), this bar is resistant to significant shrinkage, drying out and deformation.
- Glued... Differs in the highest quality. For its production, arrays of lamellas are used, which are carefully selected, polished, dried and glued together with moisture-resistant glue into double blanks. Then they go to the milling line - at the exit, a product is obtained with a thickness of 180 millimeters and 12 meters in length. This type of logs has an optimal level of humidity, does not shrink, does not deform and does not rot. Its only drawback is the high price, but it allows you to save on additional thermal insulation and exterior decoration.
Foundation
Despite the chosen type of foundation, you should consider in advance the presence of a centralized water drainage system. It will not be superfluous to analyze the soil before erection in order to understand which type of foundation is most suitable. The foundation must be strong and frost-resistant.
The timber is a light material that does not require a solid foundation. But for two-story baths, it is worth choosing a strip foundation with a deepening of up to 0.5 meters, the base of the bath should be above ground level.
Quite often, a columnar foundation is used. Are concrete beams made of blocks and bricks, erected to a certain height. They are installed at a distance of 2 meters from each other along the entire perimeter of the future bath, at the intersections of the bearing partitions, at the place where the bath stove is installed. but it is not recommended to install it on clayey soils.
It is possible to design a pile-screw foundation.
Steel tubular supports with a propeller blade are screwed into the ground below the level of its freezing with the same pitch as in the previous version. It can even be installed on a steep slope.
Style
The choice of the direction of the bath for small areas is small: it is either a Finnish bath or a Russian one. But the Turkish hammam is unlikely to fit on small plots of land.
Finnish baths differ from Russian ones in dry heat (up to 100 degrees) and low humidity (7-8 percent). In turn, the Russians heat up to 80 degrees with a humidity of 70 percent.... In addition, additional ventilation is installed in the Finnish sauna, otherwise it will be unbearable to be in it, while the Russian bath is simply ventilated.
The Russian bath has much more comfortable and natural conditions.... Finnish steam rooms are slightly stylized, our standard steam room, with a stove and often with two-level benches, looks a little different there.
Modern Finnish baths look like a barrel inside with benches on either side.
Such a sauna has several advantages:
- the structure is already ready-made and mobile: it can be placed anywhere, without having to spend several months on construction, and if the need arises to move, the bathhouse can be easily transported;
- no permissions and approvals are required for installation;
- heats up quickly;
- compact: steam rooms are made for a maximum of three people, however, there is a choice of any size;
- resistant to summer and winter climates;
- the price is lower than the cost of building a capital structure.
The design of such a bath is erected with the help of logs fixed to each other with tongue-and-groove piles, for their strength they are supplemented with steel sheets. The logs are also treated with oils for sealing. Inside, the adjustable benches are made of linden, as it does not emit tar. A instead of a stove, the sauna is heated by an adjustable steam generator with a special compartment where you can add fragrant herbs and oils... It should be noted that a Finnish bath is often made from cedar, which greatly enhances its healing properties.
However, it is still inferior to the Russian one. First, excess dry air is not good for the skin and lungs.
The fact is that the stones in the Finnish bath are open, and if you overdo it with water, the air will become very dry and very unhealthy.
The brick oven in the Russian bath does not dry the air, the stones are covered. Due to the high humidity in the Russian steam room, one breathes freely, and the light steam does not dry the skin: the body warms up well, together with sweat, toxins come out. Besides, the main attribute is a steam broom... It is more comfortable to use because it does not burn the body. In a Finnish sauna, a broom will only bring a lot of unpleasant sensations.
You will not find a real Russian stove in a store: it is laid by professionalswho know all the nuances of her work. You can build a furnace yourself, but this will also require a careful study of the styling, otherwise you might end up with a poorly working sauna, rather than a Russian bath.
In the Russian bath, the space is divided into dry (vestibule or dressing room, relaxation room with dressing room) and wet (shower, steam room) zones. Often they attach a veranda or build a gazebo nearby for outdoor recreation, and equip an additional room under the roof.
External finishing
The main decoration of the walls of the bath from a bar consists in polishing the surface, and then in processing its walls with special compounds that resist the growth of parasites inside the wood, protect the tree from fire and emphasize its natural beauty. This is a very important step that should not be ignored.
However, decorative finishes are done with siding, bricks or façade panels. This will give the sauna a modern look and provide additional protection.
A log house with a brick or stone finish of the basement of the foundation looks very beautiful. This option looks more traditional, but also quite modern.
The roof of the bath can be a decoration. It can be made gable or pitched if the building is adjacent to the residential part.
You can paint it in any color or choose a decorative roof: tiles, natural slate, ceramic tiles, wood.
Interior Design
Baths in a modern design are filled with comfort and coziness, the atmosphere is conducive to relaxation and rest.
In many ways, the design depends on the interior decoration of the walls and floor. And, of course, for a traditional bath, this is wood. However, in this case, not all tree species are suitable.
The finishing material must meet the following conditions:
- resistance to temperature extremes and high humidity;
- safety and environmental friendliness: the material should not cause allergies, upon contact with the skin, it should not leave burns and not release toxins at high temperatures in the steam room;
- resistance to wear and tear;
- ease of care;
- have a beautiful surface.
So, deciduous tree species are well suited for the steam room: alder, linden, aspen... They warm up well, but when in contact with them, no burns are formed, they have a beautiful light texture, are strong enough and do not create problems in care. Moreover, linden gives off a pleasant aroma when heated.
It is better to mount wooden lining vertically: Condensation drops will drain faster. In addition, it is very important not to expose it to varnish or paint. The floor is usually finished with wood, however it is still advisable to use tiles, and lay a wooden lattice on top... This will save it from mold formation.
The furniture in the steam room is simple - straight and round benches, lined up along one wall in several rows up. And the decor items are wooden ladles, basins, brooms hung on the wall, and bunches of fragrant herbs to create a scent.
It is also desirable to cover the traditional relaxation room in the bath with wooden clapboard. In this case you can use coniferous trees: fir, pine, spruce... Their incredible aroma is healthy. You can also use birch.
The pieces of furniture are a large solid wood table and benches. To add a modern touch, you can set up a billiards table in the middle of the room, if the size of the room allows. Thus, visitors will not only have a rest, but will also dilute the rest with interesting leisure.
The restroom benches can be replaced with soft armchairs, a sofa or wicker furniture with soft pillows. Lamps will serve as decor items. It is recommended to consider a different lighting scenario: the main light under the ceiling, additional - in the form of floor lamps or sconces, which will help create a more private and peaceful environment conducive to relaxation.
You can dilute the interior with forged decor, painted dishes or carved items.
The shower room is best tiled, and if it is in the steam room, insulate it with glass. The tiles can be matched to the wood to blend in with the main interior.
A shower room with bright contrasting tiles will look no less beautiful.
Tips & Tricks
When developing a plan for a future bath, study the tips and mistakes that other owners have encountered so as not to repeat their bitter experience. These tips will be especially interesting for those who are going to make a bath on their own.
Council number 1. Professionals recommend that when pouring a foundation, test it in a small form: a metal basin, a bucket or any other similar object. After the cement is dry, hit it on the asphalt or hit it with a hammer, so you will understand whether the foundation has a high-quality composition.
It is worth remembering that a high-quality solution is obtained if you follow a clear mixing order: first, water at room temperature is poured into the container, then cement is poured and everything is thoroughly mixed, crushed stone is added to the resulting mixture, sand is poured at the very end.
It is this order that allows you to achieve the maximum strength of the foundation.
Besides, the foundation is poured at above-zero temperatures: from +7 degrees and above.
Note: positive temperature should be kept all the time that the mixture dries.
This period, as a rule, reaches up to two weeks, so it is recommended to start building a bathhouse in late spring.
Council number 2. Choose the right type of wood. For, so to speak, wet areas, choose aspen or linden: they are more resistant to high humidity in the bath and are less susceptible to cracking. In addition, such a blockhouse is easier to restore when it is dilapidated. But the dressing room can be sheathed with conifers.
Council number 3. It is worth very carefully monitoring the laying of the timber. The logs should fit as tightly as possible to each other, since the heat in the bath depends on this. It is best to buy a timber cut in the winter, because it has no cracks and notches and is the most durable. That is why it is necessary to ask the seller for the exact felling period.
Council number 4. Even the best logs must be allowed time to shrink. It usually lasts from 5 to 7 months or the entire winter. Only then can the gaps be filled up without sparing the material: the denser the better. Pink moss and nettle tow are best for this.
Council number 5. The most important part of a building is high-quality fire safety. This means that the chimney must be sewn into a metal box where it passes through the roof, and protected by red baked bricks. You also need to make sure that the stove is as far away from wood products and walls as possible: the minimum distance is 40 centimeters.
Council number 6. Check all oven fittings for sound. If it is sonorous, then this indicates that the product is of high quality. Also check the locks at the oven doors. In the process of opening and closing, nothing should interfere with them.
Council number 7. Covering the stove with tiles will give it additional protection and make it even more energy intensive. Glazed porcelain stoneware works best, but clay tiles fired at temperatures above 1000 degrees can also be used.
Council number 8. Heat the bath correctly: you need to harvest firewood from the summer, choose oak, birch or alder for it. Coniferous trees will not work: they give soot when kindled. It is necessary to monitor the moisture content of the logs - only dry logs are thrown into the brazier.
Council number 9. Experts also recommend testing stones that are supplied with water for steam. Before you start steaming, check the stones as follows: pour hot water on the stones, hang a white cotton cloth before steam. After the steam is gone, check for soot on the canvas. If so, the stones are not very good. If you are not going to change them, then this procedure must be repeated until all the dirt comes out of them. Make sure that the stove is intact, without cracks or splits. The bad one - clean it up right away.
Council number 10. Organize ventilation in the bath competently. It is better to do it below, since all the impurities from us fall on the floor, but the air must flow from above. Also, the doors to the steam room must open outward.
Council number 11. For greater heat retention, windows and doors in the bath should be small.
Council number 12. Use oils to achieve a pleasant scent. However, do not drip it on the stones, it is better to add oil to a bucket with a soaked broom, or put a few drops on the walls.
Council number 13. Organize the gutter correctly: it should be well sloped and made of concrete.
Council number 14. If you want a real Russian bath, then its main component is a heater. You cannot buy it - the oven can only be built by a professional who knows all the subtleties. The range of stoves that shops offer are suitable only for a Finnish bath or sauna.
Council number 15. The Russian bath is built only from wood. They choose either a bar or solid logs.
